Factor-augmented transformation models for interval-censored failure time data.

Interval-censored failure time data frequently arise in various scientific studies where each subject experiences periodical examinations for the occurrence of the failure event of interest, and the failure time is only known to lie in a specific time interval. In addition, collected data may include multiple observed variables with a certain degree of correlation, leading to severe multicollinearity issues. This work proposes a factor-augmented transformation model to analyze interval-censored failure time data while reducing model dimensionality and avoiding multicollinearity elicited by mul

A comparison of cluster and factor analytic techniques for identifying symptom-based dimensions of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

A growing body of literature suggests that obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a heterogeneous condition. The studies investigating symptom dimensions have been limited by numerous methodological differences and sample characteristics. The purpose of this study was to compare the two most commonly applied statistical techniques used in addressing this question in the same large cohort of individuals with OCD. Both cluster analysis and factor analysis were used to examine OCD symptom data as measured by the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) Symptom Checklist for 355 individuals

Toward precision psychiatry in catatonia: A scoping review of its factor structure and clinical implications.

INTRODUCTION: Catatonia is a complex, heterogeneous syndrome that challenges current diagnostic boundaries. While recent studies consistently propose a three-factor structure, no systematic synthesis has comprehensively mapped these dimensions to their clinical correlates. Therefore, a scoping review was performed to analyze the factor-analytic evidence and propose a framework for precision psychiatry in catatonia. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review in adherence to JBI methodology and PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Three databases (PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science) were searched until September

A regularization method for linking brain and behavior.

In a world of big data and computational resources, there has been a growing interest in further validating computational models of decision making by subjecting them to more rigorous constraints. One prominent area of study is model-based cognitive neuroscience, where measures of neural activity are explained and interpreted through the lens of a cognitive model. Although some early work has developed the statistical framework for exploiting the covariation between brain and behavior through factor analysis linking functions, current methods are still far from providing parsimonious accounts

Handling missing data, skewness, and outliers in medical research: A robust factor analysis approach using the canonical fundamental skew-t distribution.

Addressing incomplete and non-normally distributed multivariate data poses significant challenges in medical research, particularly when the interest is in discovering underlying data structures. This article introduces a robust factor analysis framework for handling missing data by employing the canonical fundamental skew-t factor analysis (CFUSTFA) model, which incorporates the canonical fundamental skew-t distribution into the latent factors and error terms. This versatile framework accounts for skewness, heavy tails, and missing data, thereby enhancing the model's ability to capture comple

[Clinical multifactorial evaluation of the severity of traumatic shock].

The analysis of data of 780 cases of patients with traumatic shock enabled the author to show the dependence of the duration of shock in hours (+T) and life-span in the same unit (-T) on the age of the patient (A), pulse rate (P) and level of the systolic arterial pressure (AP) and the sum number assessment of severity of the trauma (K), calculated according to a special table. The dependence is expressed by the formula: (Formula: see text) The clinical verification has shown 90% of coincidence of the real and prognostic severity of the traumatic shock by the outcome.

Mixture proportional hazards cure model with latent variables.

A mixture proportional hazards cure model with latent variables is proposed. The proposed model assesses the effects of the observed and latent risk factors on the hazards of uncured subjects and the cure rate through a proportional hazards model and a logistic model, respectively. Factor analysis is employed to measure the latent variables through correlated multiple indicators. Maximum likelihood estimation is performed through a Gaussian quadratic technique that approximates the integration over the latent variables. A piecewise constant function is used for the unspecified baseline hazard

Bayesian joint additive factor models for multiview learning.

It is increasingly common to collect data of multiple different types on the same set of samples. Our focus is on studying relationships between such multiview features and responses. A motivating application arises in the context of precision medicine where multiomics data are collected to correlate with clinical outcomes. It is of interest to infer dependence within and across views while combining multimodal information to improve the prediction of outcomes. The signal-to-noise ratio can vary substantially across views, motivating more nuanced statistical tools beyond standard late and earl

Regression analysis of clustered interval-censored data with informative cluster size.

Interval-censored data are commonly found in studies of diseases that progress without symptoms, which require clinical evaluation for detection. Several techniques have been suggested with independent assumption. However, the assumption will not be valid if observations come from clusters. Furthermore, when the cluster size relates to response variables, commonly used methods can bring biased results. For example, in a study on lymphatic filariasis, a parasitic disease where worms make several nests in the infected person's lymphatic vessels and reside until adulthood, the response variable o

Factor analysis in personality disorders research: Modern issues and illustrations of practical recommendations.

The development of factor analysis is uniquely situated within psychology, and the development of many psychological theories and measures are likewise tethered to the common use of factor analysis. In this article, we review modern methodological controversies and developments of factor analytic techniques through concrete demonstrations that span the exploratory-confirmatory continuum. Also, we provide recommendations for working through common challenges in personality disorders research. To help researchers conduct riskier tests of their theory-implied models, we review what factor analysi

Latent Semantic Structure of the WMS-III Verbal Paired-Associates.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the factor structure of the verbal paired-associates (VPA) subtest in the WMS-III using a theoretically driven model of semantic processing previously found to be well-fitting for the WMS-IV version of the test. METHOD: Archival data were used from 267 heterogeneous neurosciences patients and 223 seizure disorder patients who completed the WMS-III as part of a standard neuropsychological evaluation. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test theoretically driven models for VPA based on principles of semantic processing. Four nested models of different complexities

Dissolved organic matter characterization of biochars produced from different feedstock materials.

Fluorescence excitation-emission matrix (EEM) spectroscopy coupled with parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) enables better understanding of the nature of dissolved organic matter (DOM). In the current study, we characterized 10 biochar samples produced from different feedstocks using EEM/PARAFAC analysis. The composition and distribution of DOM substances present in biochar varied significantly according to feedstock, activation, and pyrolysis temperature. The integration of proximate and ultimate analyses of the solid phase together with water extractable organic matter (WEOM) phase of biochar

[Parallel factor analysis for excitation emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy of dissolved organic matter from a reservoir-type river].

The fluorescent components and their distribution and variation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) were examined using excitation emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy-parallel factor analysis technique (EEMs-PARAFAC) for samples collected during June, 2008 from Minjiang River, a typical subtropical reservoir-type river ecosystem. Three separate fluorescent components were identified by PARAFAC, including two dominant humic-like components (C1: < 250, 325/424 nm; C2: 270, 395/482 nm) and one protein-like component (C3: < 250, 280/358 nm), of which humic-like components were dominant. [Audiologic diagnosis of sensorineural deafness by discriminant analysis (author's transl)].

The audiometric test-battery surely is a help to the diagnosis of a lesion of the VIIIth nerve. The discriminant analysis is the most suitable statistic procedure for reduction of the test-battery and for clearer decision in cases of ambigous constellation of findings. The persons are divided into three groups: normals, patients with presumable inner-ear disturbance, and those with lesions of the acoustic nerve. By means of the classification-coefficients (a result of the discriminant analysis) in new cases a diagnosis per conclusionem can be found on-line.
