Annual Summative Feedback Letters are Associated With Improved End-of-Rotation Surgical Faculty Ratings.

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that distributing annual summative feedback letters to surgical faculty is associated with increased end-of-rotation resident ratings of faculty. DESIGN: This is a retrospective study, during which we developed automated, reproducible methods for integrating several feedback elements into annual education letters addressed to each Department of Surgery faculty member. To compare end-of-rotation resident ratings of faculty before versus after the intervention, we obtained all evaluations of 80 faculty members completed by residents during a 5-year period. For

Feedback promotes learning success! Which kind of feedback for the faculty is given by an interdisciplinary OSCE with focus on decision-making?

Clinical skills such as history taking, diagnostic reasoning, therapy planning, and giving advice are even more complex than practical skills like lung auscultation and have to be applied in complex clinical situations. We judged this competence in an interdisciplinary formative OSCE conducted with students of Marburg University. Results of 218 students passing 643 OSCE stations composed of 37 different scenarios were analyzed. As a competence based examination that reflects the practical skills gained during clinical training, the here presented analysis serves also as a feedback instrument f

The development of effective behaviour change interventions to support the use of malaria rapid diagnostic tests by Tanzanian clinicians.

BACKGROUND: Parasitological confirmation is now recommended for all cases of suspected malaria. The roll-out of rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) is hoped to enable this goal in low resource settings through point of care testing. However, simply making RDTs available has not led to high uptake of the tests or adherence to results by clinicians, with malaria continuing to be overdiagnosed in many settings. We undertook to design an evidence-based intervention package that would be sufficient to support the introduction of RDTs at dispensaries in Tanzania, to be evaluated through the Targeting Arte

Anesthesia residency training in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine: a competency-based model curriculum.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has shifted to competency-based medical education. This educational framework requires the description of educational outcomes based on the knowledge, skills and behaviors expected of competent trainees. It also requires an assessment program to provide formative feedback to trainees as they progress to competency in each outcome. Critical to the success of a curriculum is its practical implementation. This article describes the development of model curricula for anesthesiology residency training in regional anesthesia and acute pain med

A Novel, Mutually Beneficial Student-Faculty Partnership to Develop Real-Time Formative Assessments Aligning With the Preclinical Undergraduate Medical Curriculum.

PROBLEM: A shortage of curriculum-aligned formative multiple-choice questions (FMCQs) remains despite their known learning benefits in preclinical medical education due to limitations on teaching faculty time and other reasons. In response, students often use extramural resources such as commercial or collaborative question banks; however, these options are often expensive and cannot be aligned with the content of each school's unique curriculum. In addition, students need feedback on their learning in a manner that parallels the format of summative assessments. In this pilot, the authors aime

Perceived User Experience, Comfort, and Ergonomics of an Add-on Backstop for Hyaluronic Acid Filler Injections: A Simulated-Use Study in Aesthetic Healthcare Professionals.

BACKGROUND: Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are widely used in cosmetic dermatology. These products exhibit viscoelastic properties and often high viscosity, which may require substantial injection forces during injection. In clinical practice, repeated injections and sustained manual force may increase operator effort and contribute to hand fatigue. Device ergonomics may therefore influence perceived comfort and control during HA filler administration. OBJECTIVE: To assess the perceived aspiration and injection experience, comfort, satisfaction, and perceived ergonomics of an investigational ad

Assessing the practising physician using patient surveys: a systematic review of instruments and feedback methods.

BACKGROUND: Individual physician performance assessment is a vital part of the medical regulation debate. In this context, the patient perspective is seen as a potentially valid component. Yet, the theoretical and empirical evidence base for such patient assessments is unclear. OBJECTIVES: To identify and evaluate instruments designed to assess patients' experiences with an individual practising physician, and to provide performance feedback at the individual level. METHODS: Nine electronic databases were searched with no language restrictions: PubMed (1985-), Embase (1985-), PsycInfo (1985-

Training class inclusion responding in individuals with autism: Further investigation.

Class inclusion (CI) requires responding to an item simultaneously as a member of both a class and a more inclusive class that contains that class. This study extends previous research by Ming et al. (2018) who trained CI responding in typically developing children and individuals with autism using a Relational Frame Theory (RFT) approach according to which CI involves responding in accordance with relations of containment and comparison. In Ming et al., participants experienced multiple exemplar training in which class containment relations were represented by placing pictures (of subclasses

Implementation of multisource feedback for competency assessment in medical students during clinical clerkship: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Clinical clerkship is a critical transitional phase in which medical students develop core competencies through experiential learning. Workplace-based assessment, specifically multisource feedback (MSF), serves as a vital evaluative framework by triangulating perspectives from multiple stakeholders to mitigate bias. Although MSF is extensively validated and used among practising physicians and in postgraduate medical education, its application within undergraduate clinical clerkships remains underexplored. Medical students represent a distinct population with unique developmental

Processing of Positive Memories Technique: Feedback From Trauma-Exposed Clients on Processing of Positive Memories Technique Components, Format, and Feasibility.

Although the majority of research and clinical interventions focused on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) centers on traumatic memories, recent literature suggests the importance of considering emotionally laden memories more broadly among trauma-exposed individuals. Specifically, trauma-exposed individuals have difficulties retrieving positive and negative memories, and interventions focused on enhancing the retrieval of both traumatic and positive memories benefit overall well-being. These findings led to the development of a novel Processing of Positive Memories Technique (PPMT) for PTSD
