Gingiva thickness in guided tissue regeneration and associated recession at facial furcation defects.

Consistently successful regenerative therapy for furcation defects using membrane techniques remains a challenge for clinicians. The purpose of this study was to determine if the thickness of tissue used to cover the membrane influences postsurgery recession. Thirty-seven (37) moderate to advanced adult periodontitis patients presenting with at least one mandibular or maxillary molar class 1 or 2 facial furcation involvement participated in the study. Mid-facial presurgery recession was recorded from the cemento-enamel junction to the free gingival margin at a reproducible point. Mid-facial ti

Closure of oroantral communication using guided tissue regeneration and an absorbable gelatin membrane.

Surgical intervention into the maxillary posterior area can lead to inadvertent communication with the maxillary sinus. Spontaneous healing of 1 to 2 mm openings can occur. However, in patients with larger oroantral communications and those with a history of sinus disease, surgical closure is often indicated. Acute and chronic oroantral fistula and sinusitis can occur as a result of inadequate treatment. The most common causes of complications include inadequate site preparation, flap closure, flap necrosis, infection, and patient non-compliance. A technique for the closure of oroantral commun

Comparative clinical study of guided tissue regeneration with a bioabsorbable bilayer collagen membrane and subepithelial connective tissue graft.

BACKGROUND: During the last decade, there have been great strides in the treatment of gingival recession defects, especially with subepithelial connective tissue graft and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) procedures. Gingival recession represents a significant concern for patients. It is necessary to choose the most appropriate procedure in order to obtain more root coverage while avoiding clinical disadvantages. The purpose of this randomized clinical trial was to evaluate the use of a bioabsorbable bilayer collagen membrane with GTR compared to a connective tissue graft in the treatment of g

Guided Tissue Regeneration and Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft in the Treatment of Gingival Recession: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

AIM: Gingival recession (GR) is a significant determinant of both the functional and cosmetic aspects of patients. Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) using collagen membranes is considered a desirable option among the various strategies for GR coverage using barrier membranes. Therefore, this clinical research was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of GTR using bioabsorbable collagen membrane (GTRbcm) and subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) in the treatment of GR over a duration of 6 months. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 24 patients diagnosed with Miller's class I and II GR

Polycaprolactone/gelatin/ZIF-8 nanofiber membrane for advanced guided tissue regeneration in periodontal therapy.

The periodontal tissue regeneration strategy based on guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membranes is an effective therapy for periodontal defects. Traditional GTR membranes, however, primarily serve as physical barriers and lack antimicrobial and osteogenic functions. Herein, we developed a multifunctional nanofiber membrane with zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 nanoparticles (ZIF-8 NPs) loaded in a hydrophilic gelatin layer. The release of Zn2+ from the ZIF-8 NPs effectively promoted bone tissue repair and simultaneously enabled GTR membranes with >99 % antibacterial efficacies against Escheri

Geno-toxic risk assessment of locally produced bovine pericardium (LYOLEMB) for guided tissue regeneration.

This study evaluated the genotoxic risk of locally produced bovine pericardium (LYOLEMB) as a guided tissue regeneration (GTR) material for advanced periodontal disease using the Ames test with metabolic activation (a sodium phosphate buffer). Mutagenic effects on Salmonella typhimurium strains TA 98, TA 1537, TA 100 and TA 1535 at concentrations ranging from 0.3125 mg/plate to 5 mg/plate showed no significant genotoxicity, with revertant counts remaining below twice that of the control. Statistical significance was observed near p ≤ 0.05 at certain concentrations, confirming LYOLEMB's non-mut

Treatment of Localized Aggressive Periodontitis With Guided Tissue Regeneration Technique and Enamel Matrix Derivative.

INTRODUCTION: Aggressive periodontitis (AgP) is a form of periodontitis characterized by rapid attachment loss in otherwise healthy individuals. Although different treatment options have been explored for management of the disease, control of disease progression and subsequent regeneration of the attachment apparatus are considered the ideal treatment objectives. Limited evidence is available with respect to the efficacy of different regenerative materials in the treatment of AgP. CASE PRESENTATION: The present case report describes periodontal regeneration techniques and 6-month outcomes in

Fibrin and fibronectin sealing system in a guided tissue regeneration procedure. A case report.

A case is reported showing an iatrogenic, chronic abscess of six years' duration associated with a bony defect between the maxillary right central and lateral incisors. The osseous defect was treated by a guided tissue regeneration procedure with the use of a fibrin and fibronectin sealing system. The system was employed to fix the membranes and keep them apart from the root surface, thereby maintaining room for bone regeneration. This operation resulted in a 9-mm clinical attachment gain and in an 11-mm filling of the osseous defect. The second surgical stage after a three-month reentry proce

Soft and Hard Tissue Stability Following Guided Bone Regeneration in an Active Orthodontics Patient.

Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a bone augmentation technique widely used in clinical practice to promote new bone growth by creating a conducive environment through bone grafts and barrier membranes. This article reports a case of a 14-year-old patient with significant bone loss, wound breakdown, and gingival recession in the anterior maxillary tooth, which was successfully treated through GBR combined with orthodontic treatment. This complex case of an area with bone defect required a multidisciplinary treatment in order to provide the best treatment for young patients.

Histopathological observations of a polylactic acid-based device intended for guided bone/tissue regeneration.

BACKGROUND: Barrier devices have been shown to support alveolar bone and periodontal regeneration, a procedure also known as guided bone/tissue regeneration (GBR/GTR). Popular demand and clinical convenience have raised an interest in bioresorbable barrier devices. Tissue reactions to such bioresorbable devices are, however, generally not well explored. PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to evaluate short- and long-term tissue reactions following implantation of a bioresorbable polylactic acid (PLA)-based barrier device using a rat model.
