PURPOSE: To compare the intraocular penetration of 4 fluoroquinolone eye drops after topical instillation into rabbit eyes.
METHODS: The tested drugs were levofloxacin 1.5% (LVFX), gatifloxacin 0.3%, moxifloxacin 0.5% (MFLX), and besifloxacin 0.6% (BFLX). Forty-eight New Zealand white rabbits were randomly assigned into 2 groups. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) on the recurrence of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).
METHODS: Clinical data of 388 patients with NMIBC undergoing transurethral resection of bladder tumor during Jan. 2009 to Dec. 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. Recurrence-free survival was analyzed, and the risk factors of recurrence were explored by Cox multivariate regression analysis.

Intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin is effective in the treatment and prophylaxis of superficial urothelial cancer of the bladder. There have been few reports of its efficacy and toxicity when instilled into the upper urinary tract. We elected to use intracavitary bacillus Calmette-Guerin in a patient with recurrent high grade transitional cell carcinoma in the renal pelvis of a solitary autotransplanted kidney. The patient required hospitalization and triple-drug therapy after 5 instillations. She was free of tumor 1 year after bacillus Calmette-Guerin instillations.

CASE: A 74-year-old woman developed refractory Candida parapsilosis periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total knee arthroplasty. Despite repeated debridement, implant removal, antifungal-loaded cement spacers, and prolonged systemic antifungal therapy, infection recurred and amputation was considered. Daily intra-articular low-dose povidone-iodine instillation achieved infection control without adverse events. After a 1-month drug holiday, hinged revision arthroplasty was performed. At 2 years, she ambulated independently without recurrence.

Intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) instillation is an adjuvant treatment for non-muscle-invasive urinary bladder cancer. Although most complications associated with BCG immunotherapy are mild and self-limiting, rare albeit serious complications have been reported. Only a few cases of BCG-related rhabdomyolysis have been reported. In this study, we present the case of a 72-year-old woman who developed severe weakness and hyperCKemia following intravesical BCG instillation. A muscle biopsy was performed, and a diagnosis of drug-induced myopathy was made.

PURPOSE: Carcinoma in situ represents high grade anaplasia of the bladder mucosa. Intravesical immunotherapy with bacillus Calmette-Guérin is the gold standard treatment for patients with carcinoma in situ. Patients with carcinoma in situ refractory to bacillus Calmette-Guérin are candidates for major surgery such as radical cystectomy. Kidney-sparing surgery (KSS) for upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is a promising alternative to radical nephroureterectomy, especially for low-risk cases.
