This paper reports case of pediatric localized gingival recession (LGR) in mandibular anterior region which was treated by using new innovative surgical approach, i.e. combination of frenectomy and vestibular extension. These interceptive surgeries not only gained sufficient width of attached gingival but also lower the attachment of labial frenum. Background/Objectives: The maxillary labial frenum (MLF) is a connective tissue structure attaching the upper lip to the maxillary alveolar process. Its morphology varies significantly among individuals and is often most prominent during early childhood. While hypertrophic or low-attaching frena have been associated with diastemas, feeding issues, and speech impairments, there is no causal evidence supporting early surgical intervention. This review aims to examine current evidence regarding the timing and necessity of frenectomy procedures and to evaluate the implications of early versus dela

The diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is based on distinctive phenotypical characteristics such as hyperelastic skin and hypermobile joints. To date, no congenital physical markers exist for identifying patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Absence of the inferior labial (100% sensitivity; 99.4% specificity) and lingual frenulum (71.4% sensitivity; 100% specificity) was found to be associated with classical and hypermobility types of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

IMPORTANCE: Breastfeeding improves health outcomes in neonates. However, infants' oral anatomy may alter latch and sucking mechanics, hampering breastfeeding. The role of maxillary frenulum (upper lip-tie) has remained controversial.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between upper lip-tie clinical findings, such as thickness, attachment, and upper lip mobility, and early breastfeeding problems.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: In this prospective cohort study (Lingual Frenulum in Newborn Infants substudy), consecutive mother-infant dyads were studied from August 2, 2023, to January

Morphological variation of normal oral structures such as double frenum and fusion together in a patient is rare. Sometimes such scenarios may mislead the diagnosis, affecting treatment planning and prognosis. Hence a thorough evaluation of patients with such morphological defects is necessary. This case report describes a case of double frenum and fusion, and the multiple challenges the clinician faces.

Dentofacial findings, audiometric and tympanometric studies, and the results of a speech evaluation of a 4-year-old boy from Yucatan, Mexico, with a rare median facial cleft are reported. It is of interest to note that all the abnormalities present in this patient were limited to the midline structures of the maxillary arch. The case presented fits into the second of the two groups of median facial anomalies described by DeMyer and his associates. There was minimal deficiency of the midline facial tissue, and there were no apparent abnormalities of the underlying brain. A brief description of

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontists often encounter a clinical challenge while dealing with a big space of anterior teeth. Aberrant frenum with congenitally multiple agenesis is a complex case that requires an interdisciplinary approach. The purpose of this paper is to describe the well-synchronized periodontal surgery, orthodontic, and prosthodontic treatment of an aberrant frenum cases with congenitally multiple agenesis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A female patient, aged 20, presented with complaints of misaligned, spaced teeth, and several missing teeth. A Class III malocclusion type 1 with a high and hyp

The frena of the tongue and lip are normal structures of the buccal cavity, and surgical resection is only necessary in cases of hypertrophy. This article looks at medical texts of the Early Modern Era to analyze the origins and quality of our knowledge on this topic and examine any therapeutic measures proposed. This review shows that while the indications for carrying out tongue frenectomy are very similar to those today (speech and breastfeeding difficulties), those for carrying out a lip frenectomy are very different. Interestingly, apart from purely surgical or medicinal treatments, some

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome (EVC), also known as chondroectodermal dysplasia, is a rare autosomal recessive disorder. It is characterized by a variable spectrum of clinical findings, and the most common tetrad is chondrodystrophy, polydactyly, ectodermal dysplasia, and cardiac defects. Among the oral findings, number anomalies, peg-shaped teeth, and alterations in soft tissues are noteworthy. The aim of this paper is to report a case in which the diagnosis of EVC was possible only with the oral findings of a dentist and to relate the dental treatment performed. A 2-year-old girl was brought for

BACKGROUND: MSX1 sequence variants have been known to cause human tooth agenesis (TA) with or without orofacial clefts. However, their roles during the whole processes of tooth development are not fully understood. This study aimed to characterize a 4-membered family with TA carrying a novel MSX1 pathogenic variant and investigate the disease mechanism.
METHODS: The authors conducted whole exome analysis to define the disease-causing sequence variant. They performed microcomputed tomography, morphometric analyses, transcriptome profiling, and molecular characterization to study the affected t

RATIONALE: Midline diastema is an unpleasant condition that affects a patient's smile and causes significant aesthetic concerns. Treating diastema and achieving the desired aesthetics, function, and harmony can be challenging without invasive treatment. This case report demonstrates a minimally invasive approach to closing a lower midline diastema.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 38-year-old female patient presented to the dental clinic at King Khalid University with the primary complaint of a "large space in the lower front tooth region." Her medical history indicated no significant health concerns.

Maxillary midline diastema is a common aesthetic complaint of patients. Treating the midline diastema is a matter of concern for practitioners, as many different aetiologies are reported to be associated with it. The appearance of midline diastema as part of the normal dental development makes it difficult for practitioners to decide whether to intervene or not at an early stage. The aim of this article is to review the possible aetiology and management options which will help the clinician to diagnose, intercept and to take effective action to correct the midline diastema. The available data

Epistaxis is frequently managed both by patients in the community and by health professionals. Many methods have been described in the literature about how to manage this condition. Epistaxis is usually due to anterior circulation bleeding at an area known as Kiesselbach's plexus (Little's area). Five vessels supply Little's area; one of these, the septal branch of the superior labial artery, can be compressed via an easy and novel technique, sub-labial packing. Sub-labial packing is a technique proposed as an adjunct to the standard 15 min ala nasi compression as a simple yet effective techni
