A Case of Neurosarcoidosis-Induced Syndrome of Inappropriate Secretion of Antidiuretic Hormone Diagnosed with Neuroendoscopy.

We treated a patient with neurosarcoidosis, which caused the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH), in whom diagnosis was performed using neuroendoscopy. The patient was a 56-year-old female who was hospitalized for hyponatremia and diagnosed with SIADH based on a detailed examination. During the course, she developed impaired consciousness due to acute hydrocephalus, which improved after ventricular drainage. Head magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed nodular lesions at the floor of the third ventricle and the cerebral aqueduct. Neuroendoscopic biopsy led to

Factors affecting the outcome of neuroendoscopy in patients with tuberculous meningitis hydrocephalus: a preliminary study.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, ETV has been found to be effective in patients with TBMH; however, its precise selection criteria are yet to be established. We carried out this study to identify the factors affecting the outcome of ETV in TBMH. METHODS: Fourteen patients with TBMH (11 male patients and 3 female patients; mean age, 15.7 years; range, 9 months to 40 years) formed the study group. Various preoperative (clinical grade, ventricular morphology, basal exudates, and CNS tuberculoma) and perioperative (ependymal tubercles, third ventricular floor anatomy, exudates, and adhesions) factors

The role of transventricular neuroendoscopy in the management of craniopharyngiomas: three patient reports and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Management of craniopharyngiomas is problematic and often requires multimodal protocols. In the last decade neuroendoscopy has been increasingly used in the management of these lesions. PATIENT REPORTS: We report three cases of craniopharyngiomas in which various endsocopic procedures were performed. In the first case the endoscopic approach alone allowed the gross total removal of an intraventricular craniopharyngioma; in the second case the endoscopic fenestration of a cystic intraventricular craniopharyngioma allowed long-term control of the tumor with no further treatment; in

Orbital head pain elicited by neuroendoscopy of the third ventricle performed under local anesthesia.

Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETVS) is considered a minimally invasive procedure for blocked hydrocephalus. In 24 cases, this procedure was carried out in awake patients under local anesthesia. All patients reported abrupt orbital pain when the third ventricle floor was manipulated. Although recent advancements in knowledge of some forms of migraine and cluster headache could be regarded as a good basis for interpreting the pain triggered by ETVS, other hypotheses should also be taken into consideration.

Heron-mouth neuroendoscopic sheath-assisted neuroendoscopy plays critical roles in treating hypertensive intraventricular hemorrhage.

INTRODUCTION: Neuroendoscopy is widely applied for treating hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage. AIM: To explore the effects of heron-mouth neuroendoscopic sheath-assisted neuroendoscopy on treatment of hypertensive intraventricular hemorrhage. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A type of heron-mouth neuroendoscopic sheath combining the advantages of minimally invasive columnar endoscopic sheath and open operation methods was designed. The end of sheath catheter could be dilated if necessary, without increasing risk of cortex injury. Heron-mouth neuroendoscopic sheath-assisted neuroendoscopy was applie

Flexible neuroendoscopy for endoscopic third ventriculostomy and fourth ventricular arachnoid cyst fenestration in an infant.

Arachnoid cysts of the fourth ventricle are rarely reported. Management options include CSF diversion, cyst fenestration, or cyst excision. Fenestration can be done via open microsurgical technique or endoscopically with or without simultaneous third ventriculostomy; and both rigid and flexible endoscopy have been used successfully. However, application of this treatment modality in pediatric patients is not well described. Therefore, to their knowledge, the authors report the first successful treatment of a fourth ventricular arachnoid cyst with a single frontal burr hole entry point for thir

Loculated hydrocephalus: is neuroendoscopy effective and safe? A 90 patients' case series and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Loculated hydrocephalus is a complex condition in which different non-communicating compartments form within the ventricular system due to different etiology, mainly intraventricular hemorrhage and infection. Since the end of the twentieth century, neuroendoscopy has been explored as a therapeutic option for loculated hydrocephalus with non-univocal results. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of 90 patients who underwent endoscopic treatment for loculated hydrocephalus from January 1997 to January 2021 (mean age: 2 years, range 7-21). We included 37 (41.1%) children

Suction Catheter as an Endoscopic Port for Simultaneous Real-Time Neuronavigation and Neuroendoscopy: A Technical Note.

The combined use of neuronavigation and neuroendoscopy enhances safety and accuracy during intraventricular procedures, particularly in pediatric patients with complex ventricular anatomy such as multiseptate hydrocephalus. However, conventional endoscopic sheaths and integrated systems often limit the simultaneous use of navigation, visualization, and endoscopic instruments. We describe a simple, cost-effective technical modification using a standard 14 Fr green suction catheter (approximately 4.7 mm internal diameter and 20 cm length) repurposed as a working conduit to allow simultaneous pas

Understanding the role of neuroendoscopy for treatment of hydrocephalus in adults with intracranial mass lesions: a case series.

OBJECTIVE: Hydrocephalus can result from mass lesions for several reasons. Due to limited numbers of adult patients with mass lesions in studies that examine outcomes of endoscopic third ventriculostomy, success in this population is unclear. Additionally, the role of other ventriculoscopic procedures in the management of associated hydrocephalus is unclear. In this retrospective case series, the authors investigated optimal management strategies for patients with mass lesions and hydrocephalus. METHODS: A list of patients who underwent ventriculoscopic procedures or shunting procedures was c

The role of neuroendoscopy in treatment of pediatric brain abscesses: case series and systematic review of the literature.

Treatment of brain abscesses in children requires a multimodal approach, consisting of neurosurgical evacuation and intravenous antibiotics. Endoscopic aspiration has been used for extensive removal of the purulent collection, but few pediatric cases have been described in literature. We report the management of endoscopically treated brain abscesses in children in our department and provide a systematic review of the literature. We retrospectively collected data on a series of children with intracerebral abscesses treated endoscopically. The literature search was performed and studies between

Virtual neuroendoscopy: MRI-based three-dimensional visualization of the cranial nerves in the posterior cranial fossa.

This article presents the advances of three-dimensional (3D) virtual neuroendoscopy of the cranial nerves (CN) in the posterior fossa. Interactive 3D visualizations were generated and the anatomical landmarks, such as the root entry/exit zones (REZ) and cisternal segments of the CN were evaluated. Twenty patients (M:F, 6:14) with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) underwent MRI constructive interference in steady state (MRI(CISS)) imaging and subsequent 3D visualization based on explicit segmentation of the MRI(CISS) data and interactive evaluation with direct volume rendering including implicit segmen

No significant displacement of basal brain structures upon head movement: Kinematic MRI morphometry relevant to neuroendoscopy.

BACKGROUND: An appreciation of normal intracranial anatomy allows optimal planning of trajectories necessary for safe and effective neuroendoscopy. Little information exists on displacement of the caudal brain relative to the skull upon head movement; this could have important implications for planning and performance of neuroendoscopic procedures. We used kinematic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies to examine the morphometric displacement and changing anatomical relationships between the clivus and basal brain structures, intracranial vessels, and subarachnoid spaces.
