Strategies to prevent gonorrhoea reinfection in men.

Gonorrhoea is a common sexually transmitted infection that is on the increase in the male population in the UK. Gonorrhoea is becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics, making it harder to treat patients effectively. Sexual health nurses therefore have a vital role to play in preventing gonorrhoea reinfection. This article examines the ways in which sexual health nurses can work with male patients to prevent reinfection and effectively maintain their sexual health.

Nurses' negative affective states, moral disengagement, and knowledge hiding: The moderating role of ethical leadership.

AIM: This study aims to investigate the influence of nurses' negative affective states on their knowledge-hiding behaviours through moral disengagement, and especially the moderating role of ethical leadership. BACKGROUND: Researchers have paid much attention to the harmfulness of knowledge hiding, yet the mechanisms of why and how nurses' negative affective states have an impact on their knowledge-hiding behaviours are less clear. METHOD: Two different questionnaire surveys were used in two different studies. In Study 1, a research design with three stages, including 323 nurses (64.47% resp

"Men Take Care of Each Other": Evaluation of a Community-Based Model for Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Services Among Male Bar Patrons in Rural South Africa.

Low engagement with HIV services persists among young men with harmful alcohol use in South Africa. We previously piloted a rural community-based HIV service delivery model to engage this key population. In the initial study, male nurses visited alcohol-serving venues to provide HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services. From November 1 to December 30, 2021, we conducted interviews with 17 of 34 male pilot participants to evaluate program barriers, facilitators, and suggestions. All interviewees were satisfied with HIV testing and PrEP services. Participants overcame testing avo

A guide to male catheterization and sexuality and quality of life.

Male catheterization has traditionally been the domain of the doctor and male nurse but, in modern health care, it is seen as a skill that should be part of the general nurses' education, regardless of their gender. This improves the speed of care for the male patient requiring catheterization and increases quality of care. However, the female nurse may find difficulty in asking questions about the patient's sexual health, which should be included in the assessment, and therefore this subject should be included in the nurse's education.

The "oldest and the newest of nurses": Nursing and the Professionalization of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

When in the late nineteenth century American physicians increasingly replaced midwives in the care of obstetrical and gynecological patients, they could do so only because they were aided by another emerging group of healthcare professionals: nurses. Nurses were instrumental in assisting physicians in the care of patients in labor and during recovery. They were also necessary for male physicians because the vast majority of nurses were women and their presence during gynecological and obstetrical treatments made it more socially acceptable for men to examine female patients. In hospital school

The moderating role of social support on workplace violence and stress among psychiatric nurses.

Exposure to violent acts is considered one of the major stressful events psychiatric nurses are exposed to. Social support has been found to reduce nurses' stress and alleviate their experience of workplace violence; however, no accounts are available on whether social support moderates the relationship between workplace violence and stress. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the moderating role of social support on workplace violence and stress among psychiatric nurses. A cross-sectional descriptive and predictive design was utilized. A total of 195 psychiatric nurses were recrui

Preliminary findings of a study on the practice of self-medication of antibiotics among the practicing nurses of a tertiary care hospital.

OBJECTIVES: Antibiotic resistance is indeed a global concern. It is of significant concern especially in the low-middle income countries because of the ease of accessibility, affordability, and absence of regulations pertaining to the dispensing of non-prescription antibiotics. This study aims to estimate the frequency and factors associated with the self-medication of antibiotics found among the practicing nurses. METHODS: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan from July 2016 to August 2016. RESULTS: Of the 48 recruited nurses, 60.4
