Concrete Behaviours Expected in Interdisciplinary Teams in Home Nursing Care Inspired by Buurtzorg: Qualitative Descriptive Study.

BACKGROUND: Interdisciplinary teams in home care and home nursing are being implemented across Denmark, inspired by the Buurtzorg model. While structural aspects have been studied, less is known about the concrete, observable behaviours that make interdisciplinary teams function well in practice. AIM: To identify and thematise observable behaviours in well-functioning interdisciplinary teams' meetings in home care and home nursing care, thereby contributing to practice development and implementation. METHOD: The study used a qualitative descriptive, practice-oriented design to identify concr

Effect of a nurse-led multidisciplinary team model on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in lung cancer patients.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of a nurse-led multidisciplinary team (MDT) model on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in lung cancer patients. METHODS: A total of 126 non-small cell lung cancer patients undergoing platinum-based chemotherapy were divided into a control group (routine care, n=63) and an experimental group (nurse-led MDT intervention, n=63). The primary outcome was the incidence of grade ≥II CINV. Secondary outcomes included scores on the Functional Living Index-Emesis (FLIE), patient cognition of CINV, and satisfaction with CINV management. RESULTS: The experi

Expanding access to difficult urinary catheter insertion services through a novel nurse practitioner-led team.

BACKGROUND: Within the United States health care system, one of the most common procedures performed daily is urinary catheterization. Oftentimes, the urinary catheter is placed by nursing personnel without any difficulty. Although the procedure is usually simple and routine, there are instances in which placement can be problematic. LOCAL PROBLEM: Urology is one of the smallest surgical subspecialties, with intermittent availability given active commitments in the operating room and clinic. This opened an opportunity for nurse practitioners (NPs) at an urban quaternary care hospital to furth

What is the nursing team involvement in maintaining and promoting the mobility of older adults in hospital? A grounded theory study.

AIMS OF THE PAPER: To present a grounded theory of the nursing team involvement in the process of maintaining and promoting the mobility of hospitalised older adults. BACKGROUND: Being able to mobilise is an important determinant of quality of life in late adulthood. However, advancing age is often accompanied by worsening mobility, which may deteriorate further as a result of illness and particularly hospitalisation. Targeted in-patient rehabilitation interventions may have the capacity to maintain and promote older adults' mobility. Some authors suggest that the nursing team may have a cent

All Hands on Deck: A Case Report of an Interdisciplinary Team Preventing Elder Financial Abuse at a Skilled Nursing Facility.

Elder financial abuse (EFA) is a common but under-reported form of maltreatment among elderly individuals. This case describes an 84-year-old woman with cognitive deficits residing in a skilled nursing facility (SNF), who was exploited by a purported friend who took funds, important documents, and attempted to designate herself as the patient's power of attorney. The situation was quickly identified by the multidisciplinary care team at the SNF and mitigated through early action and collaboration. The case emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary efforts to identify at-risk patients and

How are nurses' individual and their colleagues' diversity factors associated with their cooperation behaviors in teams? - Results of an online factorial survey.

BACKGROUND: Diversity within nursing teams in Germany increases due to staff shortages, nurse migration and the current academization of the profession. Little is known about how nurse’s own diversity factors and those of team members impact nurse’s perception and behavior in team situations. This study examines if and how nurses differentiate in the assessment of their colleagues’ nursing abilities in basic care, i.e. patient’s personal hygiene and treatment care, i.e. the set-up of an infusion, as well as their willingness to swap shifts with colleagues. METHODS: A quasi-experimental, cross-

Impact of the clinical nurse specialist role for the myeloproliferative neoplasm program: Part Two - The team and patient care experiences.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are a group of rare clonal disorders of hematopoietic progenitor cells associated with disease- related symptoms, thrombotic events, and risk of transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (Tefferi, 2021). Their relative rarity and complexity of care led to the establishment of the MPN program at the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Centre, Toronto, Canada. The MPN program utilizes a shared-care model wherein partnering with local hematologists (shared-care partners) ensures that patients have access to a MPN specialist while continuing to receive care close to hom

Integrating the spiritual dimension in long-term care: a mixed methods evaluation of a multicomponent intervention for nursing home teams.

BACKGROUND: Moving to a nursing home has a major existential impact on the lives of residents and their relatives. Healthcare professionals who have daily contact with residents have many opportunities to pay attention to existential and spiritual issues. To support them, the Dutch multidisciplinary guideline on existential and spiritual aspects of palliative care was developed. However, many healthcare professionals report a perceived lack of competence in this domain and it remains unclear what they need to effectively translate the theory and tools from the guideline into daily practice. "I Want to Tell You Something, but Not Here": Governmental Inspection teams' Challenges in Identifying Mistreatment in Nursing Homes.

This study explores the challenges faced by the Ministry of Health's inspection teams in identifying mistreatment within Israeli nursing homes. Four focus groups with 19 multidisciplinary inspectors revealed two main themes. First, the interaction between nursing home management, staff, and inspectors ranged from denial and concealment of mistreatment to cooperation in reporting it. Second, inspectors adapted skills not part of their official duties, such as investigative techniques and organizational analysis, to identify mistreatment. The findings highlight the need to reassess inspection te

A case presentation of early intervention with dolichocephaly in the NICU: collaboration between the primary nursing team and the developmental care specialist.

Dolichocephaly, narrow width and long anterior-posterior cranial distance, is more commonly seen in preterm than in term infants. It seems to persist after NJCU discharge and may be a marker for adverse neurodevelopment. This article reports a case of cranial molding in one extremely low birth weight infant. He was placed on a viscoelastic mattress and a twice weekly developmental care program. Cranial molding was measured using the cranial index (CI), a ratio of width to length. Initially, the patient presented with dolichocephaly (CI=72 percent). y week 2, CI measurements approached normal l

Comparison of team-based learning vs. lecture-based teaching with small group discussion in a master's degree in nursing education course.

BACKGROUND: The high student-to-faculty ratio is an obstacle in the reform of teaching methods in master's programmes of nursing education in China. Though Kim's study showed that team-based learning (TBL) can be implemented in high student-to-faculty ratio classes, it is still a challenge for students accustomed to the traditional didactic lecture (TDL) teaching method, and the lack of an inclusive design model has restricted the effective application of TBL. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of TBL on postgraduate nursing students with lecture-based teaching with small group discussion (LBTW
