The International journal of eating disorders2016eng
OBJECTIVE: Perfectionism and impulsivity are associated with eating disorders (EDs). The current study examines whether clinically relevant subgroups of women with EDs can be identified based on "Работает" and "Требует внимания" perfectionism and impulsivity.
METHOD: Latent profile analyses (LPA) were performed on data of 844 patients (DSM-IV diagnosis: 381 anorexia nervosa, 146 bulimia nervosa, 56 binge-eating disorder, 261 ED not otherwise specified). "Healthy" and "Требует внимания" forms of perfectionism and impulsivity were assessed by the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and the Dickman Impu

Perfectionism serves as a mediator in the relationship between difficult life experiences and psychological distress, but to date no research has examined the effect of recalled peer victimization on perfectionism and adult depressive symptomatology (DS). The present study assessed the Social Reaction Model of Perfectionism (SRMP; Flett, Hewitt, Oliver, & Macdonald (2002b). Perfectionism in children and their parents: A developmental analysis. In G. L. Flett and P. L. Hewitt (Eds.), Perfectionism: Theory, research, and treatment (pp. 89-132). Washington: American Psychological Association), wh

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between perfectionism and coping strategies in drug-dependent men. This study is a descriptive correlational study.
METHODS: The statistical population of this study consisted of all drug-dependent men (n = 6237) in years 2010-2011, who were admitted to all self-referral rehabs in Kerman, Iran. From this statistical population, 361 individuals were selected using randomized cluster sampling. The measurement tools applied in this study were positive and negative perfectionism questionnaires (Terry-Short et al) and coping respons

BACKGROUND: To date no research has investigated the link between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and perfectionism in a clinical sample.
AIMS: The aim of the current study was to examine whether there is a relationship between PTSD and perfectionism. This is important to address as many studies have demonstrated a link between other anxiety disorders, eating disorders, depression and perfectionism. The research also aimed to examine whether rumination was a mediator of the relationship between PTSD and perfectionism.
METHOD: The sample consisted of 30 participants who were currently i

The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of shape and weight overvaluation and conditional goal-setting on the relationship between perfectionism and eating pathology among women in the general community. Results from structural equation modeling indicated that the full mediation model previously established with a clinical sample (Watson et al., 2011), generalized to the present community sample (n=202). The indirect effect of self-oriented perfectionism on eating disorder pathology was .25 (p<.001) via shape and weight overvaluation, and .10 (p<.01) via conditional goal-

A paucity of research exists examining personality and cognitive characteristics that may contribute to nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI). The purpose of the current study was to clarify the contribution of perfectionism and rumination, along with depression and anxiety, to NSSI within a sample of 170 college students. Group comparisons revealed that participants with a history of NSSI endorsed significantly more rumination and depressive and anxious symptoms then non-NSSI controls. Results regarding perfectionism were mixed, with NSSI participants differing from controls on select aspects of per

BACKGROUND: Early satiety, bloating, and postprandial distress are common symptoms in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD) and anorexia nervosa (AN). Perfectionism is known to be associated with AN, accompanied by abnormal eating behavior. We analyzed perfectionism in FD as compared with that in AN, and investigated the correlation of perfectionism with abdominal symptoms.
METHODS: The study group comprised 168 patients with FD according to the Rome II criteria (65% females, mean age 47.7 years) and 101 with AN according to the DSM-IV criteria (100% females, mean age 23 years). As control,

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine the role of perfectionism to pre-existing and future insomnia.
METHODS: Based on a random sample from the general population (N=3600), 1936 participants filled out a baseline and 1-year follow-up survey on perfectionism (concern over mistakes and personal standards), emotional distress and insomnia.
RESULTS: The results from sequential logistic regression analyses showed that concern over mistakes was significantly related to pre-existing and future insomnia. When emotional distress was accounted for, none of the perfectionism subscales con

The study provides a qualitative exploration of how soccer players reporting perfectionism navigate challenges in talent pathways. Eighteen players (10 females, eight males, Mage = 16.17 years, SD = 3.47) from talent pathways with higher levels of perfectionism and perfectionistic cognitions (1SD above the mean of samples from previous studies) participated in semistructured one-to-one interviews. Using semantic thematic analysis, seven themes were identified: cycles of anxiety, sadness at being a substitute, self-criticism and hopelessness during slumps, ruminating on mistakes, worthless when

The purpose of the study was to elucidate the relationship between personality traits, perfectionism, and mental health (self-efficacy, positive emotions) among competition riders. Data were collected by online questionnaires among 662 licensed competition riders in Norway. The results showed that riders who were high on conscientiousness and low on neuroticism had better mental health than other riders. Self-oriented perfectionism predicted mental health and mediated partly the associations between personality traits and mental health. Socially prescribed perfectionism had no association with

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, the use of fitness trackers in sports practice has increased. However, despite their growing popularity, there is little empirical evidence regarding their psychological impact on non-professional athletes, particularly in relation to variables such as motivation, anxiety, and perfectionism. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore possible differences and associations in these psychological variables based on the use of fitness trackers.
METHODS: A total of 120 athletes participated and completed three questionnaires: the Sport-MPS-2, the SMS, and the SA

BACKGROUND: The present research aimed to analyze the relationship between perfectionism, sensitivity to anxiety, and distress tolerance in soccer referees.
METHODS: The sample consisted of 268 Spanish soccer referees from different categories and experience levels, and a correlational and cross-sectional design was used. Validated instruments such as the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale - Short Form (MPS-SF), the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 (ASI-3), and the Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS) were employed.
RESULTS: The results showed that perfectionism, especially socially prescribed perfec

BACKGROUND: Motivation, a fundamental driver of human behavior, is intricately linked with perfectionism, mindfulness, and emotion regulation styles. Although these constructs have been studied separately, their complex interactions remain unclear.
METHODS: This study employed network analysis to explore how these dimensions collectively interact in a sample of 350 s-year high school students from Tabriz, Iran, selected via multi-stage cluster sampling. Data were collected using standardized self-report questionnaires. A Graphical Gaussian Model with polychoric correlations was estimated and

INTRODUCTION: Research indicates that psychological factors such as stress and perfectionism play a crucial role in voice problems, either triggering them or intensifying the perception of difficulty. This study examines the relationship between voice handicap, perceived stress, and perfectionism in singers, exploring the impact of factors such as vocal role (soloists, choral singers, and students), music genre, years of professional experience, and the correlation between performance competency perception, perceived stress, and perfectionism.
METHOD: 155 singers (choral singers, soloists, an

PURPOSE: Orthorexia nervosa (ON), a proposed disorder describing an obsessive focus on "Работает" eating, is characterised as having overlapping symptoms with obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, ON/obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptom relationships are inconsistently reported. The current study aimed to investigate if the contribution of OC symptoms and beliefs explain variability in ON symptoms and determine if perfectionism, a transdiagnostic factor, moderates the ON/OC symptom relationship.
METHODS: The study comprised 190 participants (Mage = 28.63, SDage = 9.88; 80% female) recruited via

The current study explored whether maladaptive perfectionism and low self-esteem constituted reliable risk factors of student mental illness, as well as determining whether resilience moderates these predictive relationships. 434 University undergraduate students were recruited. Depression and anxiety were measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7). Perfectionism, self-esteem and resilience were analyzed in relation to the PHQ9 and GAD-7 scores via a regression analysis. Perfectionism discrepancy, self-esteem and resilience all s

According to the transdiagnostic perspective, psychological disorders share common cognitive processes involved in their pathogenesis. One dysfunctional belief that has been found to be associated with several psychological disorders, including major depressive disorder (MDD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), is perfectionism. Perfectionism comprises two factors, namely, perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns. This study aims to replicate and extend previous research in several ways. We aimed to assess similarities between the two disorders using Bayesian statistics. Fur

BACKGROUND: Impulsivity and perfectionism are transdiagnostic personality factors that have been studied extensively and shown to relate to externalizing and internalizing pathology respectively. Typically, these personality factors are antithesized, with impulsivity characterized by lack of control and perfectionism characterized by rigid overcontrol.
METHODS: The current study (N = 1,353 undergraduate students) used latent profile analysis to identify subgroups based on impulsivity and perfectionism dimensions and tested the relations of these subgroups with the symptomatology of ten preval

Personality and identity formation are intricately linked in adolescent development. The personality disposition of perfectionism has been associated with identity processes, but their longitudinal interplay in adolescence has not yet been investigated. This four-wave study, with 5- to 6-month intervals between each wave (N = 744 Caucasian adolescents, Mage = 15.2 years, 55% girls), examined associations between perfectionism (self-oriented and socially prescribed) and identity processes in the domain of future plans. Self-oriented perfectionism predicted increases in commitment making, ident
