Maternal health, neonatology and perinatology towards a standardized outcome set for clinical trials in Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn (HDFN): preliminary findings from two European advisory boards.

Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn (HDFN) remains a serious perinatal condition worldwide despite major advances in antenatal and postnatal care. A key gap in HDFN research is the absence of a standardized outcome set, leading to inconsistent reporting and limited comparability across studies identified during systematic literature review (SLR). Outcomes important to families, such as long-term neurodevelopment and emotional impact, are often overlooked. 2 separate European advisory boards with 7 HDFN experts were conducted to explore expert perspectives on outcomes that may inform fut

Bridging borders in obstetric anesthesia in 2026: shared global priorities for the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), the Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association (OAA), and the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiology (WFSA).

Obstetric anesthesiologists are central to modern maternity care, providing labor analgesia, anesthesia for operative delivery, and peripartum medical expertise while contributing leadership in safety, quality improvement, education, research, and advocacy. As childbirth increasingly occurs within complex and heterogeneous health systems, the scope of obstetric anesthesia has expanded beyond technical care to encompass workforce sustainability, patient experience, and global equity. This commentary explores the converging priorities of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOA

Consensus statement on pain management for pregnant patients with opioid use disorder from the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology, Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.

Pain management in pregnant and postpartum people with an opioid use disorder requires a balance among the risks associated with opioid tolerance, including withdrawal or return to opioid use, considerations around the social needs of the maternal-infant dyad, and the provision of adequate pain relief for the birth episode that is often characterized as the worst pain a person will experience in their lifetime. The Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology Coronavirus Disease 2019 Registry: An Analysis of Outcomes Among Pregnant Women Delivering During the Initial Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 Outbreak in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Early reports associating severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection with adverse pregnancy outcomes were biased by including only women with severe disease without controls. The Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) registry was created to compare peripartum outcomes and anesthetic utilization in women with and without SARS-CoV-2 infection delivering at institutions with widespread testing. METHODS: Deliveries from 14 US medical centers, from March 19 to May 31, 2020, were included. Peripartum infe

[The exact prenatal diagnosis of abnormalities of the kidneys and efferent urinary system--a possibility for further decreasing perinatal morbidity and mortality].

Early detection of fetal malformations has become possible owing to the availability of highly advanced ultrasound systems. Majority of malformations, 30 per cent, has been recordable from urinary system. This system is early of access for the examiner, so that even sophisticated diagnosis of malformation is possible. High accuracy diagnosis has been increasingly helpful in forecasting pregnancy prognosis. Hence, with adequate perinatological management, it will be possible to influence on perinatal morbidity and mortality positively. 70 fetuses with malformations of kidneys and to urinary sys

[Listeriosis and borreliosis in perinatal medicine].

Authors review the available literature on listeriosis and boreliosis in perinatology. A growing clinical importance of listeriosis is noted. Boreliosis is a newly described disease. In the light of the literature data, listeriosis and boreliosis do not seem to play an important role in the perinatal medicine. However, in selected cases, these infections should be considered in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Assessment of oxidative damage to proteins and DNA in urine of newborn infants by a validated UPLC-MS/MS approach.

The assessment of oxidative stress is highly relevant in clinical Perinatology as it is associated to adverse outcomes in newborn infants. This study summarizes results from the validation of an Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-tandem Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous quantification of the urinary concentrations of a set of endogenous biomarkers, capable to provide a valid snapshot of the oxidative stress status applicable in human clinical trials, especially in the field of Perinatology. The set of analytes included are phenylalanine (Phe), para-tyrosine (p-Tyr

Incidence-based measures of birth, growth restriction, and death can free perinatal epidemiology from erroneous concepts of risk.

BACKGROUND: Traditional perinatal epidemiology appears to embrace fallacious concepts of risk. The use of incorrect denominators for perinatal rates is commonplace both for straightforward indices such as the gestational age-specific labor induction rate and also for the more conceptually challenging indices such as the gestational age-specific neonatal mortality rate. As a consequence, perinatology is beset by several conondrums including the paradox of intersecting perinatal mortality curves. PROPOSITION: These traditions are ideally replaced by alternative concepts that may be derived a pri

[Improving specialized services for women with habitual abortion and for premature infants].

The package of specially developed organizational and therapeutic measures ensuring the life protection in perinatology++ and first postnatal months was found to be mandatory for reaching a higher survival rate in premature children. The adequate structure of medical institutions responsible for the treatment of miscarried pregnancy and the care for premature children was considered as the most important constituent of the package.

Współczesne metody monitorowania dobrostanu płodu w ciąży powikłanej wewnątrzmacicznym zahamowaniem wzrastania.

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is one of the most important problems in current perinatology. The number of complications such as intrauterine fetal hypoxia, preterm and operative labours, intrauterine demises and neonatal deaths are signifcantly higher among pregnant women with IUGR. The proper monitoring and assesement of the fetal well-being are crucial to make the right decision about optimal time and mode of delivery.
