Studies show that human permanent teeth with carious pulpal exposures can result in a high clinical success rate when treated with pulpotomy and direct pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA pulpotomy). In this case report, a 19-year-old female patient with a second premolar with irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis was treated with MTA pulpotomy. Follow-up electric pulp tests showed viability of the tooth at three and 10 months. Ten months after the initial treatment, the tooth was extracted for orthodontic reasons and processed for histological examination. M

Twenty human permanent teeth were used to study the pulpal response of two calcium hydroxide products, Dycal and Pulpdent Multi-Cal, after partial pulpotomy. Teeth were extracted at 4 months, fixed, and prepared for histologic examination. All 10 teeth treated with Dycal showed complete soft tissue healing and bridge formation. No stained bacteria were seen throughout the serial sections. One tooth treated with Dycal showed acceptable histologic results, dentin deposition in the root canal. Six cases dressed with Pulpdent Multi-Cal showed acceptable histologic results, whereas four teeth showe

BACKGROUND: Pulpotomy is a commonly used approach for treating deep caries in primary teeth. In recent years, diode lasers have been explored the use in pulpotomy. This study systematically reviewed the clinical and radiographic efficacy of diode lasers in pulpotomy and evaluated their feasibility and safety as an alternative treatment modality.
METHODS: This systematic review searched PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library for all published articles in the English language from inception to August 31, 2025. The medical subject headings (MeSH) terms and free-text keywords were used. The Coch

OBJECTIVES: Management of carious teeth with signs and symptoms indicative of irreversible pulpitis is traditionally invasive, but emerging evidence suggests successful treatment outcomes with less invasive vital pulp treatment such as coronal pulpotomy. The objective of this systematic review is to determine whether coronal pulpotomy is clinically effective in treating carious teeth with signs and symptoms indicative of irreversible pulpitis.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on pulpal response of primary teeth. Twenty mandibular primary molars were randomly divided into the following groups: group I Buckley's formocresol (diluted at 1:5), group II calcium hydroxide, group III LLLT + zinc oxide/eugenol, and group IV LLLT + calcium hydroxide. LLLT parameters were set at 660-nm wavelength, 10-mW power output, and 2.5 J/cm(2) energy density for 10 s in continuous mode (InGaAlP laser, Twin Laser®, MMOptics, Sao Carlos, Sao Paulo, Brazil). The teeth were extracted at the regular exfoliation perio

PURPOSE: The aims of this study were to: (1) retrospectively assess the overall performance of formocresol pulpotomies in primary molars when definitively restored with a resin-based material; and (2) compare the results to previously published studies using more traditional restorative techniques (stainless steel crown, amalgam).
METHODS: Records of a 2-operator pediatric dental office using this novel restorative technique were reviewed. Pre- and postoperative radiographs of pulpotomized primary molars restored with Z-100 and with a minimum of 6 months of follow-up were compared to the cont

The retention of pulpally involved deciduous tooth in a healthy state until the time of normal exfoliation remains to be one of the challenges for Pedodontists. A scientific noise has been generated about several materials some of which have been popular pulpotomy medicaments. Concerns have been raised about the toxicity and potential carcinogenicity of these materials, and alternatives have been proposed to maintain the partial pulp vitality, however to date no material has been accepted as an ideal pulpotomy agent. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is a biocompatible material which provides a

The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical status of pulpotomy treatment with calcium hydroxide and to correlate it with the quality of restoration of the treated teeth. Patients were retrieved from the files of the Operative Dentistry clinics (FOUFPel) between 1996 and 2000. Twenty-two patients were recalled, which had 23 teeth treated with pulpotomy due to exposure by caries. Seven anterior and 16 posterior teeth composed the evaluated group, being all restored with composite resin. The age varied from 15-50 years (mean 23.9) and the follow-up mean was 34.52 months. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a diode laser pulpotomy with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) sealing could be an acceptable alternative to the conventional formocresol pulpotomy and zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) sealing in human primary teeth.
METHODS: A randomized, single-blind, split-mouth study was used with a sample of 16 children aged from 3 to 8 years (mean age=5.10 years). A total of 26 pairs of teeth from these 16 patients were selected based on clinical and radiographic criteria. One tooth from each pair was randomly assigned to either the laser-MTA pulpot

Vital pulp therapy (VPT), particularly pulpotomy, has emerged as a predictable treatment option for permanent teeth with deep caries and even in the presence of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Although numerous clinical studies have reported favorable outcomes, considerable variation exists in the methods used to assess postoperative pulp sensibility. This scoping review aimed to systematically map the pulp sensibility assessment methods, diagnostic methods, and follow-up schedules employed in clinical studies evaluating permanent tooth pulpotomy. This scoping review was conducted according

BACKGROUND: With recent advances in biomaterials, there has been growing interest in using pulpotomy to treat irreversible pulpitis instead of root canal therapy. In this report, we describe a case of pulpotomy with 9-month follow-up in an immature permanent tooth exhibiting signs and symptoms of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-year-old female presented with a chief complaint of a severe toothache in the lower left molar. Radiologic examination revealed a deep carious lesion and Nolla Stage 9. Based on the findings, a symptomatic irreversible pulpitis was diagnosed. P

Vital pulp therapy, including direct pulp capping and partial and full pulpotomy, is primarily indicated for immature or mature permanent teeth with reversible pulpitis. Mature permanent teeth with irreversible pulpitis are frequently treated with root canal therapy. This report presents two cases of full pulpotomy using BiodentineTM in mature permanent teeth with irreversible pulpitis and acute apical periodontitis. The periapical radiograph illustrated a deep carious lesion extended to the pulp with apical radiolucency lesion or widened periodontal ligament space. Full pulpotomy with a trica
