Divergent Synthesis of Acylated Sulfoximines via Tunable Silver/Rhodium Relay Catalysis with Cyclopropenones.

An efficacious access to enable dual functionalization of sulfoximines through sequential N-acylation and C-H annulation, employing cyclopropenones as versatile coupling partners, has been disclosed via a silver/rhodium relay catalysis. The transformation begins with Ag(I)-catalyzed N-acylation, affording N-(α,β-unsaturated acyl) sulfoximines in high yields. These products subsequently function as effective directing groups in a Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H annulation under oxidative conditions. This one-pot strategy provides an efficient approach to assembly diverse sulfoximine architectures.

Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Three-Component Oxyamidation of Alkynes with CO2 Retention from Dioxazolones.

Alkyne oxyamidation represents a powerful difunctionalization system toward rapid assembly of tetrasubstituted, electron-rich alkenes. We herein report a Rh(III)-catalyzed three-component oxyamidation protocol utilizing amine, dioxazolone, and indolyl alkyne as substrates. This transformation enables unprecedented utilization of carbon dioxide moiety from dioxazolones─a process that circumvents the stoichiometric CO2 waste typically associated with dioxazolone-mediated nitrene transfer reaction. Operating under mild conditions, the reaction is characterized by 100% atom-economy, high regioregu

Rhodium Cluster Catalysts Enable Efficient Catalytic Hydroformylation in Mild Conditions: Cluster Size Dependence.

The size of the reactive metal domain, termed an 'ensemble', in supported metal catalysts critically influences their catalytic activity. To maximize mass-activity (MA), a deep understanding of the optimal catalytic environment is vital for the rational catalyst design concept, yet this remains challenging due to difficulties in synthesis and analysis especially in the sub-nanometer regime. Herein, we have successfully synthesized a series of supported Rh species ranging from single-atoms to (sub-)nanometer clusters and nanoparticles. Their catalytic performance in the hydroformylation of styr

Confining rhodium nanocrystals into polyaniline nanorod-embedded MXene nanoarchitectures enables efficient methanol electrooxidation.

Although metallic rhodium (Rh) is regarded as a promising platinum (Pt)-alternative electrode used in direct methanol fuel cell technology, its electrocatalytic ability still needs to be substantially improved before large-scale commercial applications. Herein, we report a bottom-up design strategy to confine ultrafine Rh nanoparticles into polyaniline (PANI) nanorod-embedded Ti3C2Tx MXene nanoarchitectures through a convenient co-assembly process. The incorporation of PANI nanorods effectively separates the neighbouring MXene nanolayers and provides plentiful N species for the immobilization

Oxidative coupling of N-nitrosoanilines with substituted allyl alcohols under rhodium (III) catalysis.

Rhodium(III) catalysis has been used for C-H activation of N-nitrosoanilines with substituted allyl alcohols. This method provides an efficient synthesis of the functional N-nitroso ortho β-aryl aldehydes and ketones with low catalyst loading, high functional group tolerance, and superior reactivity of allyl alcohols toward N-nitrosoanilines. We demonstrated that reaction also proceeds through the one-pot synthesis of N-nitrosoaniline, followed by subsequent, C-H activation. The protocol was also feasible with acyrlaldehyde and methyl vinyl ketone which furnished the same oxidative N-nitroso c

Soft X-ray Fermi surface tomography of palladium and rhodium via momentum microscopy.

Fermi surfaces of transition metals, which describe all thermodynamical and transport quantities of solids, often fail to be modeled by one-electron mean-field theory due to strong correlations among the valence electrons. In addition, relativistic spin-orbit coupling pronounced in heavier elements lifts the degeneracy of the energy bands and further modifies the Fermi surface. Palladium and rhodium, two 4d metals attributed to show significant spin-orbit coupling and electron correlations, are ideal for a systematic and fundamental study of the two fundamental physical phenomena and their int

Microwave-Assisted Reductive Amination of Aldehydes and Ketones Over Rhodium-Based Heterogeneous Catalysts.

Microwave (MW)-assisted reductive aminations of aldehydes and ketones were carried out in the presence of commercial and homemade heterogeneous Rh-based catalysts. Ultrasound (US) was used to improve dispersion and stability of metal nanoparticles, while commercial activated carbon and carbon nanofibers were used as supports. Moreover, various bio-derived molecules were selected as substrates, and aqueous ammonia was used as a cheap and non-toxic reagent. MW combined with heterogeneous Rh catalysts gave a 98.2 % yield in benzylamine at 80 °C with 10 bar H2 for 1 h; and a 43.3 % yield in phenyl

(Z)-Selective Hydroboration of Terminal Alkynes Catalyzed by a PSP-Pincer Rhodium Complex.

A highly (Z)-selective hydroboration of terminal alkynes was achieved using a thioxanthene-based PSP-pincer rhodium catalyst. This hydroboration exhibited good chemoselectivity toward alkynes over carbonyl compounds such as ketones and aldehydes. The mechanistic studies indicated the involvement of rhodium-vinylidene intermediates, and the high (Z)-selectivity could be attributed to the rigid and electron-rich nature of the PSP-rhodium catalyst.

Rhodium-Catalyzed β-Dehydroborylation of Silyl Enol Ethers: Access to Highly Functionalized Enolates.

An efficient rhodium-catalyzed β-dehydroborylation of aldehyde-derived silyl enol ethers (SEEs) with bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) is disclosed. The borylation reactions proceeded well with alkyl- and aryl-substituted SEEs, affording a wide array of valuable functionalized β-boryl silyl enolates with high efficiency and excellent stereoselectivity. Moreover, the borylated products, through versatile carbon-boron bond transformations, were readily converted into diverse synthetically useful molecules, including α-hydroxy ketones, functionalized SEEs, and gem-difunctionalized aldehydes.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Synthesis of Chiral Monohydrosilanes by Intramolecular C-H Functionalization of Dihydrosilanes.

The preparation of chiral monohydrosilanes remains a rarely achieved goal. To this end a Rh-catalyzed desymmetrization of dihydrosilanes by way of intramolecular C(sp2 )-H functionalization under simple and mild conditions has now been developed. This method provides easy access to a broad range of chiral monohydrosilanes in good yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99 % ee). The resulting monohydrosilanes constitute a good platform to access stereogenic silicon compounds, as well as useful compounds to probe silicon stereochemistry.

Water-soluble hydroxyalkylated phosphines: examples of their differing behaviour toward ruthenium and rhodium.

The reaction of P(CH2OH)3 (I) and P(C6H5)(CH2OH)2 (II) with RuCl3 in methanol eliminates two equivalents of formaldehyde to yield the mixed tertiary and secondary phosphine complexes all-trans-[RuCl2(P(CH2OH)3)2(P(CH2OH)2H)2] (1) and [RuCl2(P(C6H5)(CH2OH)2)2(P(C6H5)(CH2OH)H)2] (2), respectively. There is a high degree of hydrogen-bonding interactions between the hydroxymethyl groups in 1 and 2, although the phenyl groups of the latter reduce the extent of the network compared to 1. The generation of these mixed secondary and tertiary phosphine complexes is unprecedented. Under the same reactio

Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Intramolecular Annulation and Aromatization for the Synthesis of Pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines.

A rhodium(III)-catalyzed protocol for the synthesis of pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines through intramolecular annulation of o-alkynyl amino aromatic ketones and subsequent aromatization is reported. This transformation builds the pyrrole and quinoline moieties of the pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoline in one pot and achieves a flexible introduction of different substituent groups at 4- and 5-positions on products that were difficult to prepare by other means. The reaction proceeds smoothly on a gram scale, and the products are amenable to downstream synthetic manipulations.

Different effects of platinum, palladium, and rhodium salts on lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine release.

The effects of graded concentrations of Pt, Pd, and Rh salts on spontaneous and PHA-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) proliferation and IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, and IL-5 release were the focus of this study. Spontaneous PBMC proliferation was inhibited by all 10(-4) M salts (with the exception of PtCl2), while it was enhanced by 10(-5) M PtCl2 as well as by 10(-5) and 10(-6) M (NH4)2[RhCl6] and RhCl3 (but not by 10(-7) M salts). Pt, Pd, and Rh compounds showed similar effects on PHA-stimulated PBMC proliferation and cytokine release; however, the effects on IFN-gamma release wer
