Responses of the Asian citrus psyllid to volatiles emitted by the flushing shoots of its rutaceous host plants.

Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) carries Candidatus liberibacter spp., the putative causal agents of Huanglongbing. D. citri reproduces and develops only on the flushing shoots of its rutaceous host plants. Here we examined whether D. citri is attracted to host plant odors and a mixture of synthetic terpenes. Tests conducted in a vertically oriented Y-tube olfactometer showed that both males and females preferentially entered the Y-tube arm containing the odor from the young shoots of Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack and Citrus limon L. Burm. f. cultivar Eureka. Only males exhibite

Plant Dermatitis: More Than Just Poison Ivy.

Plants can cause allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), mechanical irritant contact dermatitis, chemical irritant contact dermatitis, light-mediated dermatitis, and pseudophytodermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis to chemicals in the Toxicodendron genus, which includes poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac, is the most common cause of plant ACD; however, many other plants, such as Compositae, Alstroemeriaceae, and Rutaceae plants also are important causes of dermatitis. In individuals with recurrent ACD from plants other than Toxicodendron, patch testing can be used to identify the source of

Inhibition of immunoglobulin E production by Poncirus trifoliata fruit extract.

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is the principal immunoglobulin involved in immediate hypersensitivities and chronic allergic diseases. The effect of an aqueous extract of Poncirus trifoliata (L) Raf. (Rutaceae) fruits (PTFE) on in vivo and in vitro IgE production was investigated. PTFE dose-dependently inhibited the active systemic anaphylaxis and serum IgE production induced by immunization with ovalbumin, Bordetella pertussis toxin and aluminum hydroxide gel. PTFE strongly inhibited interleukin 4 (IL-4)-dependent IgE production by lipopolysaccharide-stimulated murine whole spleen cells. In the case

[Research advance on structure and function of amides in Zanthoxylum plants].

Zanthoxylum belongs to the Rutaceae family, and there are 81 Zanthoxylum species and 36 varieties in China. Most of the Zanthoxylum plants are used as culinary spice. In recent years, scholars in China and abroad have carried out in-depth research on Zanthoxylum plants, and found that the peculiar numbing sensation of Zanthoxylum plants originates from amides. It is also determined that amides are an important material basis for exerting pharmacological effects, especially in anti-inflammatory analgesia, anesthesia and other aspects. In this paper, 123 amides in 26 Zanthoxylum plants and their

Overhauling the ecotoxicological impact of synthetic pesticides using plants' natural products: a focus on Zanthoxylum metabolites.

The reduction in agricultural production due to the negative impact of insects and weeds, as well as the health and economic burden associated with vector-borne diseases, has promoted the wide use of chemicals that control these "enemies." However, the use of these synthetic chemicals has been recognized to elicit negative impacts on the environment as well as the health and wellbeing of man. In this study, we presented an overview of recent updates on the environmental and health impacts of synthetic pesticides against agro-pest and disease vectors while exhaustive reviewing the potentials of

Mechanism of rutaecarpine on ethanol-induced acute gastric ulcer using integrated metabolomics and network pharmacology.

This study was aimed to explore the mechanism of rutaecarpine (RUT) on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer (GU) in mice by integrated approaches. At first, the efficacy was determined through the macroscopic and microscopic state of stomach tissue and the expression levels of GU-related factors. Then, the serum metabolomics method based on UPLC-Q-TOF/MS was used to explore the specific metabolites and metabolic pathways. Finally, the upstream key protein targets of these specific metabolites were analyzed by network pharmacology and verified by PCR to explore the potential mechanism. RUT alleviated

Regional quality differences in Zanthoxylum bungeanum using sensor-based analysis and climate factors.

Zanthoxylum bungeanum (red pepper) is a widely used spice in the Rutaceae family, yet its quality varies markedly among production regions due to the absence of a standardized evaluation system. Here, we integrated multi-dimensional analyses (electronic nose/tongue, GC-MS, HPLC) with PCA-entropy modeling to elucidate climate-quality linkages across eight core production areas. Correlation analysis classified these areas into three distinct climate types, each strongly associated with key fruit quality indicators. Notably, primary aroma compounds (e.g., limonene, myrcene) were closely linked to

Screening of promising chemotherapeutic candidates from plants against human adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (IX): active principles from Juniperus rigida.

During the screening of novel chemotherapeutic candidates from plants against adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATL), we found that extracts of plants in the Solanaceae, Annonaceae, Apocynaceae, and Rutaceae families showed anti-proliferative activity in the MT-1 and MT-2 cell lines. We have isolated active compounds from these plants in the present research because Cupressaceae plants showed potent anti-proliferative activity in the cell lines. We attempted to isolate the active compounds from the leaves of Juniperus rigida. Using activity-guided fractionation, we isolated 22 compounds, includ

Phytophotodermatitis in Rijeka region, Croatia.

Contact with plants can cause phototoxic or rarely photoallergic reactions. Phototoxic dermatitis (photophytodermatitis) occurs after contact or ingestion of plants containing furocumarins i.e. psoralens and followed by sun exposure. Skin lesions develop usually after 24-48 hours with erythema, bulla formation, itch or pain, followed by a long lasting hyperpigmentation. Furocumarins can be linear i.e. psoralens (5-MOP, 8-MOP), or angular like angelicin and pimpinellin. Their binding to DNA causes cellular damage. This can happen in florists, gardeners, farmers, horticulturists, food handlers,

Hesperitin attenuates alcoholic steatohepatitis by regulating TLR4/NF-κB signaling in mice.

In the peel of citrus (Rutaceae) fruit, hesperitin (Hesp), a flavanone glycoside chemical, is found naturally. Hesp has been found to have a wide range of pharmacological actions, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, and anticancer properties, according to earlier research. However, nothing is known regarding its function in alcoholic liver steatosis and inflammation. In this study, we employed a network pharmacology approach to identify the TLR4 signaling pathway as a primary target of Hesp for the treatment of alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH). Molecular docking results showed
