The scope of practice of nurses and allied health professionals in primary care in Ontario, Canada: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Primary care is essential for health care systems to promote health, prevent disease, and manage chronic conditions. However, a shortage of primary care physicians challenges the delivery of high-quality primary care services to the population, especially for those living with multimorbidity. To address this challenge, interprofessional primary teams consisting of primary care physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals (AHPs) have been rolled out in many jurisdictions. This approach allows physicians to focus on complex patient care, where less complex care can be delegate

A survey of the scope of therapeutic practice by UK optometrists and their attitudes to an extended prescribing role.

The survey questions covered four areas: mode of practice, proximity and relationship to other providers of eye care, scope of current therapeutic practice and future plans regarding prescriber training. RESULT

[Advanced practice nurses in geriatric traumatology : A scoping review].

BACKGROUND: Older and very old persons have an increased risk of traumatic injuries as well as comorbidities and multimorbidities. The standardized workflow in hospitals can increase the occurrence of typical geriatric complications, such as challenging behavior and delirium, which can result in highly complex care situations. The application of advanced practice nurses (APN) is an international response to such challenges. In Germany, the scientifically based development of APN has so far lagged behind the international standard. METHOD: For this scoping review, a systematic search in the da

Family-focused practices in addictions: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Families are significantly impacted by addictions and family involvement in treatment can reduce the harms and can also improve treatment entry, treatment completion and treatment outcomes for the individual coping with an addiction. Although the benefits of family-focused practices in addictions have been documented, services continue to have an individual focus and research on this topic is also limited. The objective of this study is to map the extent, range and nature of evidence available examining family interventions in addictions and identify gaps to guide future research

Opening the door to the full scope of midwifery practice: Midwives' experiences of implementing continuity of care in Ethiopia.

PROBLEM: Few midwives are given the opportunity to provide continuity of midwife care despite the suggested benefits. BACKGROUND: Translating evidence into practice remains challenging, particularly in low-income settings where workforce limitations, structural constraints, and leadership capacity influence implementation. Although continuity of care models have gained increasing attention globally, little is known about how midwives in low-income countries perceive their readiness and capacity to initiate and sustain such models. AIM: To explore how midwives experience and perceive their ca

Clinical Decision Making, Red-Flag Recognition, and Scope-of-Practice Perspectives for Direct Access Physical Therapy in Saudi Arabia.

Background/Objectives: This survey examined referral decisions, the recognition and screening of warning features (red flags) of serious disease, regulatory interpretations, and barriers to direct-access physical therapy in Saudi Arabia. Methods: An English-language cross-sectional convenience survey (May-July 2026) used an investigator-developed questionnaire with 12 clinical vignettes (written patient cases) and 20 warning-feature items paired with screening questions. The primary outcome was choosing medical referral before physical therapy in all four urgent/critical vignettes: suspected g

Screening for cervical cancer: a new scope for general practitioners? Results of the first year of colposcopy in general practice.

A survey was carried out over one year of all the women who attended a colposcopy clinic in a general practice. During the year 1254 women underwent cytological screening in the practice and 197 of these underwent colposcopy. Of 79 women with abnormal smears that suggested cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, 62 (79%) were confirmed by biopsy to have cervical premalignancy. In addition, the remaining 118 women with normal or inflammatory smears underwent colposcopy either because of their history or because they requested the investigation. A general underestimate of cervical intraepithelial ne

Knowledge, attitude and risky practices on schistosomiasis in Ethiopia: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Despite many years of intervention measures, schistosomiasis (SCH) remains a public health problem in Ethiopia. Health education and promotion enable community involvement and active participation in SCH control and prevention. Therefore, it is considered as one of the key strategies to prevent and control SCH in Ethiopia. However, comprehensive data on the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of vulnerable populations towards the disease are lacking. Therefore, we reviewed the existing KAP studies in Ethiopia. METHODS: Studies conducted in Ethiopia and published between 2006 an
