Exploring Social Media Use and Anxiety Symptoms in Health Care Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-Sectional Secondary Data Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Health care workers (HCWs) experienced significant mental health challenges, particularly anxiety, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although social media became a primary source of information and connection, it was also a potential source of stress. The influence of social media on HCWs' anxiety is not well understood. OBJECTIVE: This study examined associations between social media use and anxiety symptoms among HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: We conducted a secondary, cross-sectional analysis of data from the 2021 UC-COVID study (N=427 HCWs). Anxiety symptoms were ass

Behavior change techniques in a care partner-assisted oral health intervention for people with mild dementia: a secondary mixed-methods analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Oral hygiene declines early in mild dementia (MD), yet few interventions specify which behavior change techniques (BCTs) drive improvement. We examined the use of BCTs in relation to oral health outcomes in a care-partner-assisted intervention for persons living with MD. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Using a secondary convergent mixed-methods design, we analyzed the coaching arm of a three-arm randomized trial. Seventeen dyads (persons living with MD-care partners) completed four coaching sessions (68 coaching session transcripts). Seventeen BCTs were specified for u

Kampo Prescriptions for Premenstrual Syndrome and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder: A Secondary Analysis of Nationwide Survey by JSOG Women's Health Care Committee.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) significantly impair women's quality of life. A survey of obstetricians and gynecologists showed that 19.5% of the doctors preferred Kampo medicine, including Tokishakuyakusan (TSS), Kamishoyosan (KSS), Keishibukuryogan (KBG), and Yokukansan (YKS), as the first-choice treatment for these conditions. We aimed to analyze the characteristics of each Kampo prescription. A secondary analysis was conducted on survey results from members of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology collected from September to November 2021. D

Preventing mechanical restraint in forensic mental health care: A secondary analysis of interviews with patients, carers, nursing assistants and nursing staff.

The use of restrictive interventions to prevent harm remains one of the most persistent challenges in psychiatry. Mechanical restraint (MR), involving belts to limit patient movement, is among the most controversial practices due to their physical and psychological consequences for both patients and staff. MR prevalence varies widely across countries and remains particularly high in forensic mental health settings. In Denmark, MR episodes have increased in recent years despite the implementation of evidence-based interventions, underscoring the need for effective, ethical, and sustainable stra

Unveiling novel bladder cancer associations from multicentred primary and secondary care electronic health records by machine learning: a case-control study.

OBJECTIVE: The rising incidence and mortality in bladder cancer (BC) underscore the importance of identifying asscociated features. Current reliance on haematuria as a primary indicator for BC proves inadequate. While mining electronic health records (EHRs) offer potential of identifying BC-related signals, traditional data-driven methods struggle with high-dimensional datasets. This study aims to uncover novel BC-associated clinical signals by developing Parsimony-driven cAtegory-balaNced binary Signal extractor for Primary Care EHRs (PanSPICE) tailored to extremely high-dimensional data link

Targeted Secondary Screening for Congenital Hypothyroidism in High-Risk Neonates: A 9 Year Review in a Large California Health Care System.

Secondary screening for missed congenital hypothyroidism (CH) has been introduced sporadically, but its necessity and optimal strategy have not been recognized. We hypothesized that a simple clinical protocol (performed by a medical group without a governmental mandate) targeting infants at high risk for missed CH can identify cases. We performed a 9-year retrospective review of 338,478 neonates within a California health plan following the introduction of thyrotropin (TSH) secondary screening for neonates at high risk for missed CH due to very-low-birthweight (VLBW), hospitalized congenital h

Antibiotic overuse in the primary health care setting: a secondary data analysis of standardised patient studies from India, China and Kenya.

INTRODUCTION: Determining whether antibiotic prescriptions are inappropriate requires knowledge of patients' underlying conditions. In low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), where misdiagnoses are frequent, this is challenging. Additionally, such details are often unavailable for prescription audits. Recent studies using standardised patients (SPs) offer a unique opportunity to generate unbiased prevalence estimates of antibiotic overuse, as the research design involves patients with predefined conditions. METHODS: Secondary analyses of data from nine SP studies were performed to est

Towards a gendered diabetes care approach: a secondary analysis of conventional and complementary medicine diabetes health service use of older women with diabetes and a mental health co-morbidity.

BACKGROUND: Women with diabetes have different self-management and self-care characteristics and risk profiles to men. A difference of note is that women with diabetes are at greater risk of anxiety or depression. However, limited research has explored if the presence of a mental health co-morbidity is an influencing factor upon health service use pertinent to diabetes self-care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A secondary analysis of a chronic disease self-care sub-study stemming from the 45 and Up Study was conducted. Cross-sectional analyses were completed to examine the conventional and complement
