PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe the CT findings of small cell carcinoma of the lung.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: CT findings were retrospectively reviewed in 38 patients (34 men, 4 women; aged 46-73 years) with pathologically proven small cell carcinoma.
RESULTS: Tumors were located centrally in 23 cases (61%) and peripherally in 15 cases (39%). In this report, we describe four cases of small-cell carcinoma of the lung manifesting as acute hepatic failure. These cases were noteworthy for the presence of hepatomegaly and substantially increased serum lactate dehydrogenase and uric acid levels. Twenty-four small cell lung carcinoma patients with morphologically normal adrenal glands by computed tomographic (CT) criteria underwent percutaneous thin-needle biopsy of their adrenal glands. OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency and range of paraneoplastic neurologic disorders (PNDs) and neuronal antibodies in small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC).
METHODS: Two hundred sixty-four consecutive patients with biopsy-proven SCLC were recruited at the time of tumor diagnosis. All patients underwent full neurologic examination. A small-cell carcinoma of the lung was identified in a six-year-old female German shepherd dog with a history of chronic lameness of the left forelimb, Horner's syndrome and sensory deficits on the caudal portion of the left forelimb below the elbow. A mass, the exact location of which was difficult to ascertain, was identified during radiographic examination of the thorax. It was easily identified, using magnetic resonance imaging, as an apical tumour of the left lung with dorsal extension and involvement of paraspinal structures, such as spinal nerve roots C8 to T1 and the sympathetic trunk.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The authors performed this study to determine whether intrathoracic inoculation of non-small-cell lung carcinoma with fluoroscopic guidance would provide for more accurate implantation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A tumor cell inoculum (2 x 10(6) cells per 0.15 mL) was injected percutaneously under fluoroscopic guidance at the posterior midaxillary line in 22 athymic nude mice.
