OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the MRI findings associated with acute tibial plateau fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: MR scans of 29 patients with acute tibial plateau fractures were analyzed retrospectively. The images were evaluated for the presence of injuries involving the menisci, cruciate and collateral ligaments. The presence of a lipohemarthrosis or a simple joint effusion was also noted. The tibial plateau fractures were classified according to the scheme devised by Schatzker.

PURPOSE: To identify a cohort of isolated medial tibial plateau fractures treated with surgical fixation and to categorize them by Moore and Wahlquist classifications in order to determine the rate of complications with each fracture morphology and the predictive value of each classification system. We hypothesized there would be high rates of neurovascular injury, compartment syndrome, and complications overall with a higher incidence of neurovascular injury in Moore type III rim avulsion fractures and Wahlquist type C fractures that enter the plateau lateral to the tibial spines.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical and radiologic results of primary Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) for elderly complex tibial plateau fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between November 2010 and February 2012, six cases of elderly complex tibial plateau fractures were treated with primary TKA using the standard medial parapatellar approach. Tibial plateau fractures or knee fracture-dislocations often result from trauma or sporting injuries. Given the subcutaneous position of the knee and upper tibia, without much intervening soft tissue, any such injury can be associated with significant soft tissue damage. Thus, consideration of the degree of soft tissue injury must be part of the treatment plan. Specific management decisions regarding blisters, open wounds, and compartment syndrome are discussed, as well as the timing of surgery, role of provisional external fixation, and placement of incisions for definitive internal fixation.
