tdCoxSNN: Time-dependent Cox survival neural network for continuous-time dynamic prediction.

The aim of dynamic prediction is to provide individualized risk predictions over time, which are updated as new data become available. In pursuit of constructing a dynamic prediction model for a progressive eye disorder, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), we propose a time-dependent Cox survival neural network (tdCoxSNN) to predict its progression using longitudinal fundus images. tdCoxSNN builds upon the time-dependent Cox model by utilizing a neural network to capture the nonlinear effect of time-dependent covariates on the survival outcome. Moreover, by concurrently integrating a convo

Time-dependent Cues Encode the Minimum Exploration Time in Discriminating Naturalistic Compliances.

Our perception of compliance is informed by multi-dimensional tactile cues. Compared with stationary cues at terminal contact, time-dependent cues may afford optimal efficiency, speed, and fidelity. In this work, we investigate strategies by which temporal cues may encode compliances by modulating our exploration time. Two potential perceptual strategies are considered, inspired by memory representations within and between explorations. For either strategy, we introduce a unique computational approach. First, a curve similarity analysis, of accumulating touch force between sequentially explore

Filling the dead-time gap in zero echo time MRI: Principles compared.

PURPOSE: MRI of tissues with short coherence lifetimes T2 or T2* can be performed efficiently using zero echo time (ZTE) techniques such as algebraic ZTE, pointwise encoding time reduction with radial acquisition (PETRA), and water- and fat-suppressed proton projection MRI (WASPI). They share the principal challenge of recovering data in central k-space missed due to an initial radiofrequency dead time. The purpose of this study was to compare the three techniques directly, with a particular focus on their behavior in the presence of ultra-short-lived spins. METHODS: The most direct compariso

Glutamine in critical illness: the time has come, the time is now.

Glutamine (GLN) has been shown to be a key pharmaconutrient in the body's response to stress and injury. It exerts its protective effects via multiple mechanisms, including direct protection of cells and tissue from injury, attenuation inflammation, and preservation of metabolic function. Data support GLN as an ideal pharmacologic intervention to prevent or treat multiple organ dysfunction syndrome after sepsis or other injuries in the intensive care unit population. A large and growing body of clinical data shows that in well-defined critically ill patient groups GLN can be a life-saving inte

Note on decision time/movement time relationships in normal and depressed subjects.

It has been suggested that under normal conditions, there is no relationship between decision and movement time components of response latency. However, for normal Ss, induced elevation of decision time produces conpensatory reductions in movement time. Psychomotor retardation, commonly observed in depressive patients, shows in the main, elevations for decision time. Such patients should also produce compensatory reductions in movement time. This was found not to be so. While 15 controls exhibited no relationship between decision and movement times, 30 depressive Ss exhibited a positive one. T

Transforming screen time into active time: digital health interventions for childhood obesity.

Digital Health Interventions may help transform technologies commonly associated with sedentary behaviors into tools that support physical activity in children with obesity. Their clinical value may depend more on promoting long-term adherence and behavioral sustainability than on producing large short-term increases in physical activity. Personalized and supervised digital interventions may help overcome practical and psychosocial barriers that limit participation in exercise programs.

It's time to opt out: Metacognitive analysis of time regulation under uncertainty.

When performing cognitive tasks like solving problems in an exam or tackling challenging thinking tasks at work, knowing when to stop struggling with a difficult problem is often crucial for effective global performance. That is, opting out quickly when success is unlikely allows conserving time for other tasks with a higher chance of success. While research has examined how we find answers, giving-up efficiency has been largely ignored. This study delineates the metacognitive process by which individuals manage their mental effort when given a legitimate choice to quit. The present research e

Time-lag reporting bias in interrupted time series studies: a methodological study.

BACKGROUND: Time-lag bias occurs when the speed of publication depends on the nature of the results (e.g., whether they support the authors' hypothesis). Time-lag bias has not been examined among interrupted time series (ITS) studies. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the time-to-publication of ITS studies with a protocol is influenced by their results METHODS: We searched eight bibliographic databases and 14 other sources for published protocols of ITS studies, up to 31 December 2022. We then searched for reports of results that matched these protocols by their primary ITS research q

Predicting ERCP procedure time - the SWedish Estimation of ERCP Time (SWEET) tool.

BACKGROUND: The duration of an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is influenced by a multitude of factors. The aim of this study was to describe the factors influencing ERCP time and to create a tool for preintervention estimation of ERCP time. METHODS: Data from 74 248 ERCPs performed from 2010 to 2019 were extracted from the Swedish National Quality Registry (GallRiks) to identify variables predictive for ERCP time using linear regression analyses and root mean squared error (RMSE) as a loss function. Ten variables were combined to create an estimation tool for ERCP durat

Not all prehospital time is equal: Influence of scene time on mortality.

BACKGROUND: Trauma is time sensitive, and minimizing prehospital (PH) time is appealing. However, most studies have not linked increasing PH time with worse outcomes because raw PH times are highly variable. It is unclear whether specific PH time patterns affect outcomes. Our objective was to evaluate the association of PH time interval distribution with mortality. METHODS: Patients transported by emergency medical services in the Pennsylvania trauma registry from 2000 to 2013 with a total PH time (TPT) of 20 minutes or longer were included. TPT was divided into three PH time intervals: respo

Time-estimation error following Weber-Fechner law may explain subadditive time-discounting.

Impulsivity in drug addicts have been associated with impatience in intertemporal choice, i.e., high degrees to which delayed rewards are discounted, indicating the importance of reducing the degree of discounting in drug addicts. Intertemporal choice (delay discounting) has been attracting attention in neuropsychopharmacology and behavioral neuroeconomics. Recently, behavioral economists have reported that impatience/impulsivity in intertemporal choice is increased if a delay period is presented as a sum of divided time-blocks, which is referred to as subadditive discounting (i.e., "total pat

Desorption/ionization on silicon time-of-flight/time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

Desorption/ionization on silicon (DIOS) tandem time-of-flight (TOF/TOF) mass spectrometry (MS) provides high accuracy and significant fragmentation information, particularly in the characterization of biomolecules. DIOS TOF/TOF offers a high-throughput surface-based ionization platform as well as complete fragmentation through high collision energies. The absence of matrix interference in DIOS allows for the MS and MS/MS analysis of small molecules well below m/z 300. In addition, sample preparation is minimal, and the DIOS chips can be stored and reanalyzed for fragmentation information or ac
