Predicative factors of the effect of Body Weight Support Treadmill Training in stroke hemiparesis patients.

[Purpose] The aim of this study was to determine if gait index predicts the efficacy of weight-support treadmill training (BWSTT) in hemiplegic stroke patients. [Participants and Methods] In total, 21 patients who had sustained a hemiplegic stroke, on an average 71 days prior, and could walk independently on level ground were included in the study. BWSTT was performed under 20% of bodyweight unloading at the maximum speed possible for each participant to a perceived level of fatigue of 15 on the 20-point Borg scale. The immediate effects of BWSTT were evaluated as the change in the following v

Implicit development of gaze strategies support motor improvements during action encoding training of prosthesis use.

BACKGROUND: Action observation training has been suggested to facilitate motor improvements in the lives of persons with neural injury. Previous studies have shown that for persons with upper limb amputation, matched limb training, where prosthesis users emulate each other, has shown promise above mismatched training where a prosthesis user emulates actions of a person with sound limbs (most commonly that of a therapist). OBJECTIVE: The mechanism underlying the matched limb training benefit is unclear. Gaze strategies may reveal unique patterns between matched and mismatched training which co

Restoration of gait in nonambulatory hemiparetic patients by treadmill training with partial body-weight support.

The effect of a treadmill training with partial body-weight support was investigated in nine nonambulatory hemiparetic patients with a mean poststroke interval of 129 days. They had received regular physiotherapy within a comprehensive stroke rehabilitation program at least 3 weeks before the treadmill training without marked improvement of their gait ability. After 25 additional treadmill training sessions scoring of functional performance and conventional gait analysis showed a definite improvement: gait ability, assessed by the Functional Ambulation Category (0 to 5) improved with a mean of

Emotional Resilience Training to Support Care Partners of People Living with Dementia: A Pilot Study.

Care partners of people living with dementia (PLWD) report significantly higher levels of stress, anxiety, and depression than non-care partners. Mindfulness-based programs improve overall well-being, but little research has evaluated the impact of emotional resilience programs for care partners of PLWD. This study reports the design and implementation of a pilot emotional resilience training initiative for care partners of PLWD. Three sessions were held at a monthly care partner support group. Emotional regulation skills were assessed using self-recorded emotional shifts before and after resi

The implementation of diverse skin-toned female manikins in hospital provider basic life support training.

BACKGROUND: Women are less likely than men to receive bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). CPR training has traditionally relied on manikins depicting a lean, white male chest, which may reinforce disparities. This quality improvement initiative evaluated healthcare staff perceptions of sex/gender differences in CPR and the impact of diverse skin-toned female manikins on provider confidence. METHODS: Six female CPR manikins representing diverse skin tones were introduced into basic life support training at two Covenant Health hospitals. Participants completed anonymous pre- and post

How AI-supported intelligent systems support infection prevention and control training in healthcare: A systematic review of educational functions and outcomes.

AIMS: Artificial intelligence (AI)-supported intelligent systems have been increasingly incorporated into infection prevention and control (IPC) education and training, primarily to support the monitoring of observable behaviors and the provision of feedback. However, existing evidence has focused largely on short-term compliance outcomes, with limited synthesis of the educational role of AI-supported intelligent systems in supporting sustained IPC competence. This systematic review examined how AI-supported intelligent systems have been designed and used to support IPC education and training,

Communication Support and Training for Families Affected by Aphasia: A National Survey Exploring Perspectives of Professionals.

BACKGROUND: Aphasia affects both the individuals and their families, impacting communication, social connectedness, roles and mental health. The focus in neurorehabilitation often remains on the individual, yet research suggests that addressing the family as a system would be beneficial. It remains unknown to what extent this is translated into clinical practice. AIMS: To explore professionals' perspectives on communication support and training addressing the needs of families living with aphasia across disciplines, positions and stages of neurorehabilitation in Denmark. METHODS & PROCEDURES
