Anterior and posterior uveitis associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis -case report.

Anterior uveitis is the most common extra-articular manifestation in children diagnosed with Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). It is typically a non-granulomatous, chronic, and asymptomatic uveitis. The lack of acute symptoms often delays the diagnosis with the incidence of severe ocular complications. Chorioretinitis lesions have been described in only 1% of cases. The absence of fundus changes can be explained by the impossibility of performing fundoscopy through the cloudy ocular media, secondary to inflammation. A 7-year-old female with a 3-month history of painless reduced vision came

Visual Snow-Like Symptoms and Posterior Uveitis following COVID-19 Infection.

Visual snow (VS) is a neurologic condition consisting of a constant positive visual disturbance described as "static" with diagnosis requiring exclusion of competing neurologic and ophthalmologic disorders. The authors describe the first case of visual snow-like symptoms in a patient following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. He was found to have a transient subtle mild inflammatory reaction in the vitreous and optic nerve edema which resolved, but the VS persisted. Our findings suggest that COVID-19 may precipitate a transient autoimmune response in some patients with resultant

Lacrimal secretory IgA in active posterior uveitis induced by Toxoplasma gondii.

It is quite difficult to diagnose active toxoplasmosis in patients with ocular toxoplasmosis. Active posterior uveitis presumably due to Toxoplasma gondii infection (APUPT) is seldom produced during a prime-infection; hence most patients do not show high IgM antibodies. High levels of IgA have been described in active toxoplasmosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate possible association between APUPT and the specific anti-parasite sIgA in tears. The study was carried out as case-control. Tears of 25 clinically confirmed APUPT patients and 50 healthy control subjects were analyzed. A

Stalagmite-like preretinal inflammatory deposits in vitrectomized eyes with posterior uveitis.

We report a new clinical sign of vitreous inflammation in patients with posterior uveitis: spectral-domain optical coherence tomography identified stalagmite-like, discrete, diffusely distributed, hyperreflective, preretinal deposits in previously vitrectomized eyes of 2 patients during flares of posterior uveitis. The extent of the deposits correlated with disease activity. The underlying primary diseases encountered were necrotizing retinochoroiditis secondary to toxoplasmosis and primary central nervous system lymphoma.

Chronic herpes simplex virus type 2 encephalitis associated with posterior uveitis.

We report on a patient with chronic herpes simplex virus-2 encephalitis who was characteristic for concomitantly having chronic or recurrent posterior uveitis. A 66-year-old immunocompetent man suffering from a 6-month refractory posterior uveitis developed a 1-month history of impaired short-term memory and orientation. Brain MRI demonstrated hyperintense lesions in the right parietal lobe in diffusion and fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequences. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination showed mild pleocytosis and increased protein concentration. Quantitative PCR for HSV-2 DNA was

Development of a dexamethasone intravitreal implant for the treatment of noninfectious posterior segment uveitis.

Uveitis is a group of ocular inflammatory disorders that can lead to severe vision loss. Despite advances in anti-inflammatory therapy, many patients are resistant to or intolerant of existing treatments. A biodegradable, sustained-release implant, dexamethasone intravitreal implant 0.7 mg (Ozurdex), has been developed to deliver dexamethasone to target tissues in the posterior segment of the eye, minimizing systemic drug exposure and limiting side effects. The implant releases dexamethasone over a period of up to 6 months as the poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) polymer matrix of the implant is
