Eruption cyst formation associated with cyclosporin A.

BACKGROUND: Cyclosporin A (CyA) is a potent immunomodulatory agent with a wide range of applications. Despite its therapeutic value, multiple adverse effects of CyA have been identified. This case report describes eruption cyst formation as a possible adverse effect of CyA administration during tooth eruption in a boy treated with CyA as a consequence of a cardiac transplantation. The clinical diagnosis of eruption cyst was confirmed by histopathological examination. TREATMENT: The periodontal treatment consisted of supragingival and subgingival scaling, followed by surgical removal of the ti

An Unusual Case Report of Unicystic Ameloblastoma of the Mandible.

There are plenty of benign lesions that can result in swelling of the mandible, and these can be classified as odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions. Among the categories of odontogenic lesion, ameloblastoma is the most occurring lesion that takes origin from the epithelial cellular elements and dental tissues in their different stages of development. Ameloblastoma is the most serious odontogenic neoplasm due to its prevalence and clinical characteristics. Ameloblastoma is a broad class which encompasses 80% of solid multicystic type of ameloblastoma with unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) variant

Cystic Lesions of the Jaws: The Top 10 Differential Diagnoses to Ponder.

BACKGROUND: Cystic lesions of the gnathic bones present challenges in differential diagnosis. This category includes a smorgasbord of odontogenic and non-odontogenic entities that may be reactive or neoplastic in nature. While most cystic jaw lesions are benign, variability in biologic behavior makes distinction between these entities absolutely crucial. METHODS: Review. RESULTS: Two clinical cases are presented in parallel and are followed by an illustrated discussion of the ten most likely differential diagnoses that should be considered when confronted with a cystic jaw lesion. Strong emp

Ectopic molar with maxillary sinus drainage obstruction and oroantral fistula.

INTRODUCTION: Ectopic tooth eruption may result owing to one of 3 processes: developmentalDisturbance, iatrogenic activity, or pathologic process, such as a tumor or a cyst. In rare cases, occlusion of the sinus ostia may predispose a patient to develop a maxillary sinus mucocele. When the maxillary sinus is invaded, symptoms usually occur late in the process. CASE REPORT: A 17 years old boy referred to department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of university of medical sciences, Tabriz_Iran in 2010 with chronic recurrent mucoprulent discharge from retromollar trigone , posterior to

Machine learning approach using radiomics features to distinguish odontogenic cysts and tumours.

Although most odontogenic lesions in the jaw are benign, treatment varies widely depending on the nature of the lesion. This study was performed to assess the ability of a machine learning (ML) model using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomic features to classify odontogenic cysts and tumours. CT and MRI data from patients with odontogenic lesions including dentigerous cysts, odontogenic keratocysts, and ameloblastomas were analysed. Manual segmentation of the CT image and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map from diffusion-weighted MRI was performed t

Imaging-Guided Surgical Decision-Making and Bone Healing in Mandibular Cystic and Tumor-like Lesions: A Case-Based Radiologic Observation.

Background and Clinical Significance: Mandibular cystic lesions are heterogeneous in biologic behavior, radiologic appearance, and surgical management. Treatment selection is influenced by lesion extent, cortical bone condition, structural stability, and proximity to adjacent teeth and vital anatomical structures. In large mandibular lesions, case-specific decision-making may range from staged decompression or marsupialization to single-stage enucleation, peripheral ostectomy, graft-assisted reconstruction, and preventive mandibular plating (PMP). Case Presentation: In the first case, a 60-yea

Bone Trabecular Pattern Analysis in Odontogenic Cysts Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography: A Clinical Retrospective Study.

Introduction The cysts of the maxillofacial region account for one of the most common pathologies of the head and neck region after the mucosal pathologies. Radiography provides an essential clue in early diagnosis and triaging, but it continues further as it is used to evaluate the post-treatment outcome. However, manual analysis is prone to errors. In this scenario, fractal analysis (FA) in radiographs uses mathematical methods to analyse the changes in grey scales in a given radiographic image. FA in odontogenic cysts is used to characterise their complexity, uncover hidden patterns, monito

BACKGROUND: Treatment modalities of odontogenic cystic lesions of the jaws range from conservative to radical. "Dredging" may be considered the "middle path" between conservative and radical treatment options. It comprises three entities-decompression, followed by repeated scraping of the lesion, and finally, peripheral ostectomy providing margin clearance but without significant morbidity. AIM: To evaluate the outcome of "dredging" in the management of large cystic lesions of the jaws, without major resections and maintaining normal functions. METHODOLOGY: This prospective study was conduct
