Shaping Citizenship in the Classroom: Peer Influences on Moral Disengagement, Social Goals, and a Sense of Peer Community.

Despite the important role of peers in the social process of classroom citizenship, the peer influence related to moral disengagement, social goals, and a sense of peer community remain unclear. To this end, it was examined to what extent youth become similar to their friends in moral disengagement, social goals, and a sense of peer community. Participants were 283 South Korean third to sixth graders (Mage = 9.60 years, SD = 0.97; 51.6% girls) who completed an online survey for moral disengagement, social goals, the sense of peer community and friendship network across the beginning (Time 1) a

Impeded frontal-occipital communications during Go/Nogo tasks in humans owing to mental workload.

Human brains rely on oscillatory coupling mechanisms for regulating access to prefrontal cognitive resources, dynamically communicating between the frontal and remote cortex. We worry that communications across cortical regions will be impeded when humans in extreme space environments travel with mental load work, affecting the successful completion of missions. Here, we monitored crews of workers performing a Go/Nogo task in space travel, accompanied by acquisitions of electroencephalography (EEG) signals. These data demonstrated that when the target stimulus suddenly changed to the non-targe

Essential elements of a community empowerment approach to HIV prevention among female sex workers engaged in project Shikamana in Iringa, Tanzania.

Globally, female sex workers bear a disproportionate burden of HIV, with those in sub-Saharan Africa being among the most affected. Community empowerment approaches have proven successful at preventing HIV among this population. These approaches facilitate a process whereby sex workers take collective ownership over programmes to address the barriers they face in accessing their health and human rights. Limited applications of such approaches have been documented in Africa. We describe the community empowerment process among female sex workers in Iringa, Tanzania, in the context of a randomise

Validity of gold-standard clinical outcome assessments in U.S. Latinx-Hispanic participants enrolled in Alzheimer's disease clinical trials: A literature review.

There is an urgency to achieve equitable representation of Latinx-Hispanic participants in Alzheimer's disease (AD) clinical trials. Valid instruments for these communities contribute to the generalizability of clinical trial outcomes. The aim of this study was to review articles reporting studies that conducted a thorough assessment of the validity and reliability of three gold-standard cognitive measures with U.S. Latinx-Hispanic communities. We reviewed validity/reliability studies of the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR), Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognition (ADAS-Cog), and Repeatab

Stakeholders' perspectives on communicating biosecurity to encourage behavior change in farmers.

Effective communication is crucial for strengthening collaboration and ensuring the successful implementation of biosecurity measures against infectious diseases. A collaborative approach, where farmers and veterinarians play a central role in decision-making, may have a greater impact on promoting the implementation of biosecurity practices compared to a top-down approach. The objective of this study was to explore the perspectives of researchers, official services, and industry on the preferred communication methods between farmers and various on-farm stakeholders. Data were collected throug

Connecting communities across the globe: Atlas protocol.

BACKGROUND: Providing universal access to palliative care is increasingly recognised as a global public health priority, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Compassionate communities could help with provision by fostering community-led responses to dying, death and grief. Despite their global growth, compassionate communities are often absent from national and international palliative care strategies, and few are represented in academic literature. This, along with their diversity and community-defined nature, can contribute to difficulties in documentation, evaluation and visibili

The relationship of loneliness and social anxiety with children's and adolescents' online communication.

Children and adolescents now communicate online to form and/or maintain relationships with friends, family, and strangers. Relationships in "real life" are important for children's and adolescents' psychosocial development; however, they can be difficult for those who experience feelings of loneliness and/or social anxiety. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in usage of online communication patterns between children and adolescents with and without self-reported loneliness and social anxiety. Six hundred twenty-six students ages 10 to 16 years completed a survey on the amount

Communication skills competencies: definitions and a teaching toolbox.

BACKGROUND: Doctors' interpersonal and communication skills correlate with improved health care outcomes. International medical organisations require competency in communication skills. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) developed a toolbox for assessing this competency and 5 others, yet none initially for teaching these skills. PURPOSE AND METHODS: The original focus in the development of the ACGME competencies was evaluation. This paper represents a significant step toward defining methods for teaching communication skills competencies. A total of 16 medical ed

Development of a specific stroke awareness tool for the Haitian community.

While stroke awareness tools are available in English and Spanish, none specifically serve the substantial Haitian population in the United States. To fill this gap, the Florida Stroke Registry (FSR) Education Core collaborated with Haitian Creole-speaking healthcare professionals and community members to create a stroke awareness tool tailored for the Haitian Creole community. This initiative led to the development of two candidate translations for the BE-FAST acronym (Balance, Eyes, Face, Arm, Speech, Time), a validated tool proven to improve patient outcomes by enabling earlier hospital pre

A pilot study on the impact of wearing powered air-purifying respirators on speech intelligibility.

Powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR) have become an increasingly utilized form of respiratory protection against highly infectious aerosols. In the United States, PAPRs have been used in high-level clinical isolation settings to care for patients infected with viral hemorrhagic fevers and, more recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic. PAPRs have long been used for biocontainment care and experienced increased use during the pandemic because they provide full-face visibility and eye and respiratory protection. Despite their extended use, limited studies have explored the operational usabilit
