Aortic stenosis is the most common valve disease and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is considered as an alternative to surgical valve replacement or to medical treatment in inoperable or high-risk patients. Although physicians have learned how to care for critically ill old patients and enable many to survive, major surgical procedures, operating on patients at very high risk, are often not suitable. Studies showed that selected cohorts of patients undergoing TAVI might have better outcomes in terms of survival and quality of life. However, mortality and safety data associated

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) may be associated with dynamic hemodynamic complications in patients with marked left ventricular hypertrophy. We report a rare case of acute pulmonary congestion caused by TAVI-induced left ventricular outflow tract obstruction with systolic anterior motion, severe mitral regurgitation, and markedly elevated left ventricular end-diastolic pressure. An 88-year-old woman developed severe hypotension and persistent systolic anterior motion immediately after TAVI, with a left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) of 35 mm Hg. Despite transient s

Fragmented QRS (fQRS) on electrocardiography (ECG) is a known marker of myocardial fibrosis and electrical instability. However, its prognostic role in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) remains uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate whether the presence of fQRS on preprocedural ECG is associated with increased risk of in-hospital major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients undergoing TAVI for severe aortic stenosis. A total of 149 patients undergoing TAVI between 2018 and 2025 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into 2 groups based

INTRODUCTION: Previous reports of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in adults ≥90 years emphasise procedural success and survival. Whether nonagenarians experience clinically meaningful, sustained improvements in patient-reported outcomes, and how frailty and multimorbidity may modify these benefits, remains uncertain.
METHODS: We performed an exploratory single-centre retrospective cohort study of consecutive nonagenarians undergoing TAVI (January 2019 - 31 October 2024). EuroQol 5-Dimensions 3-Level (EQ-5D-3L) (including Visual Analogue Scale, VAS) and the Kansas City Cardiomyo

OBJECTIVES: This study compared conventional preoperative parameters between transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) patients with and without post-procedural new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) to identify simple risk markers.
METHODS: A total of 211 patients undergoing TAVR were enrolled. Post-procedural NOAF occurred in 19 patients (9.0%). Preoperative clinical baseline data, electrocardiographic parameters, conventional echocardiographic indices, laboratory findings, and perioperative variables were compared between the NOAF and No-NOAF groups.
RESULTS: Compared with the No-NOAF g…

Progress in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) devices has been remarkable. Although the indications for TAVI have expanded to younger or lower-risk patients, reports on temporal trends are scarce. This study aimed to investigate temporal trends in the patient cohort and clinical outcomes of TAVI between 2013 and 2025 at a high-volume center. We included 2,000 consecutive patients who underwent TAVI between 2013 and 2025. Patient characteristics, periprocedural outcomes, and long-term all-cause mortality rates were analyzed. Over 12 years, annual TAVI volumes have increased approxi

INTRODUCTION: Quality of life measures from the patient's subjective experience are important, since it capture how the treatment affects their daily life, functional abilities, and emotional well-being. This study aimed to measure patients' QoL prior and after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure.
METHODS: This prospective study was conducted from November 2022 to December 2024 in a sample of 302 TAVI patients from three public Hospitals in Greece. Patients were recruited and followed up at the point of discharge and six months after discharge. Patient-reported quality of

BACKGROUND: We used transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedure time to investigate the association between surgical team maturity and outcome.
METHODS: Among patients who underwent TAVI between October 2015 and November 2019, those who had Sapien™ implanted with the transfemoral artery approach were included in the analysis. We used TAVI procedure time and surgery number to draw a learning curve. Then, we divided the patients into two groups before and after the number of cases where the sigmoid curve reaches a plateau. We compared the two groups regarding the surveyed factors a

BACKGROUND: Aortic valve stenosis (AS) is a common valvular heart disease, especially in the elderly, and is associated with a high prevalence of atrial fibrillation. Although the risk of atrial fibrillation is expected to decrease after the intervention, atrial fibrillation develops in many patients undergoing surgical or percutaneous transaortic valve implantation. We aimed to evaluate atrial refractoriness since it may play a key role in the occurrence of atrial fibrillation after transaortic valve implantation.
METHODS: Seventy-nine consecutive patients who underwent TAVI between October

OBJECTIVES: The use of cerebral embolic protection (CEP) during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has been studied in several randomised trials. We aimed to perform a systematic review and Bayesian meta-analysis of randomised CEP trials, focusing on a clinically relevant reduction in disabling stroke.
METHODS: A systematic search was applied to three electronic databases, including trials that randomised TAVI patients to CEP versus standard treatment. The primary outcome was the risk of disabling stroke. Outcomes were presented as relative risk (RR), absolute risk differences (AR

The ventriculo-arterial coupling (VAC) and left ventricle (LV) mechanics are crucial and play an important role in the pathophysiology of aortic stenosis (AS). The pressure-volume (PV) analysis is a powerful tool to study VAC and LV mechanics. We proposed a novel minimally-invasive method for PV analysis in patients with severe AS receiving transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Patients with severe AS were prospectively enrolled in a single center. LV pressure and cardiac output were recorded before and after TAVI. We constructed the PV loop for analysis by analyzing LV pressure and

The volume of contrast to creatinine clearance ratio (CV/CrCl) is a useful indicator of the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing percutaneous interventional procedures. Association between CV/CrCl and adverse outcome after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) was suggested but it is not well established. A large retrospective multicenter cohort of 1381 patients treated with TAVI was analyzed to assess the association between CV/CrCl and the risk of AKI and mortality at 90 days and 1 year after TAVI. Patients receiving renal replacement therapy at the time of TAVI

Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA)-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program is essential for patients before and after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). This study aimed to explore the values of CGA and exercise capacity in CR for patients referred to TAVI. A retrospective analysis was conducted in 90 patients referred to TAVI from January to October 2019. CR strategies started before TAVI. The association between clinical characteristics, CGA, and change in six-minute walk distance (Δ6MWD) was analyzed with multivariate regression models. Most of patients had cognitive im
