Prenatal diagnosis of de novo isochromosome 4p with an unbalanced t(4;9) translocation in a fetus with congenital anomalies: A case report and literature review.

OBJECTIVE: We present the first case of prenatally diagnosed isochromosome 4p with whole 4q arm translocating to chromosome 9p23 and review the literature. CASE REPORT: A 26-year-old woman underwent amniocentesis at 25 weeks of gestation because of an abnormal ultrasound examination. Routine chromosome analysis on cultured amniocytes showed a karyotype of 46,XX, ?idic(4)(q11),der(9)t(4;9)(q11;p23). Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array analysis on uncultured amniocytes detected two copy number variations (CNVs): arr [GRCh37] 4p16.3p11(68345-49089361) × 3; arr [GRCh37] 9p24.3p23(208454-10

Competing-risks model for prediction of small-for-gestational-age neonate from estimated fetal weight at 19-24 weeks' gestation.

OBJECTIVE: To develop further a new competing-risks model for the prediction of a small-for-gestational-age (SGA) neonate, by including second-trimester ultrasonographic estimated fetal weight (EFW). METHODS: This was a prospective observational study in 96 678 women with singleton pregnancy undergoing routine ultrasound examination at 19-24 weeks' gestation. All pregnancies had ultrasound biometry assessment, and EFW was calculated according to the Hadlock formula. We refitted in this large dataset a previously described competing-risks model for the joint distribution of gestational age (GA

Efficacy of well-planned management in patients with incarcerated gravid uterus: A case series and literature review.

OBJECTIVE: Incarcerated gravid uterus is a condition in which uterine myoma and intraperitoneal adhesion lead to persistent uterine retroversion. Accurate diagnosis before cesarean section is crucial so that the procedure can be planned with regard to the spatial relationship between the uterine incision and other organs. This study investigated the effects of well-planned management on the outcome of cesarean sections. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four patients with incarcerated gravid uterus who received well-planned management and preoperative magnetic resonance imaging were compared with three

Prenatal Diagnosis and Postnatal Outcome of Eight Cases with Criss-Cross Heart - A Multicenter Case Series.

OBJECTIVE: Criss-cross heart (CCH) is a rare congenital cardiac defect defined by crossing of ventricular inflow streams contributing to less than 0.1 % of all congenital heart anomalies. Due to its rarity and complexity, prenatal diagnosis in these patients remains challenging. We sought to describe prenatal findings and postnatal course in eight cases of prenatally diagnosed CCH. METHODS: This is a retrospective case series of prenatally diagnosed CCH in three centers between 2010-2017. We reviewed fetal echocardiograms as well as postnatal clinical charts and surgical reports. RESULTS: 8

Antenatal hydronephrosis and fetal urine sampling.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the significance of renal pelvis aspiration (RPA) in the management of antenatal hydronephrosis (AHN). This study enrolled 15 AHN cases (one twin pregnancy) that necessitated RPA for AHN. Chromosomal abnormalities, gene disorders, and additional life-threatening congenital abnormalities were eliminated prior to intrauterine interventions. Urine analysis were performed for the evaluation of renal function. Normal renal function was observed in six neonates/infants (40%) (group 1), whereas impaired renal function and various type of urinary system anomalies w

Fetal cardiomyopathy in neurofibromatosis type I: Novel phenotype and review of the literature.

Neurofibromatosis type I (NF1) is a relatively common genetic disorder characterized by neurocutaneous lesions, neurofibromas, skeletal anomalies, iris hamartomas, and predisposition to other tumors. NF1 results from heterozygous loss-of-function mutations in neurofibromin (NF1), and diagnosis is most often made using clinical diagnostic criteria. Cardiac manifestations of NF1 include congenital heart disease (such as valvar pulmonary stenosis), left ventricular hypertrophy, and adult-onset pulmonary hypertension. Prenatal features of NF1 are often nonspecific and diagnoses are infrequently ma

Prenatal diagnosis of femoral facial syndrome: Three case reports and literature review.

Facial femoral syndrome (FFS) is a rare congenital abnormality, also known as femoral hypoplasia-unusual facies syndrome, characterized by variable degrees of femoral hypoplasia, associated with specific facial features. Other organ malformations are sometimes present. Most cases are sporadic, but rare family observations suggest genetic origin. However, no chromosomal or genetic abnormalities have ever been incriminated. We conducted a comprehensive literature review and added three new unreported observations. Through these 92 cases, authors aimed to determine sonographic signs that should d

Prenatal diagnosis and findings of tetrasomy 9p.

Tetrasomy 9p is a rare condition initially reported by Ghymers et al. Reported cases are a mix of prenatal and neonatal/pediatric cases in non-mosaic and mosaic cases. We report on the common mechanism leading to this form of chromosome abnormality, the various types of tetrasomy 9p as well as the prenatal sonographic and laboratory presentation of our case and previously reported cases with mosaic and non-mosaic tetrasomy 9p. From these reported cases, a recognizable syndrome is emerging. Multiple fetal abnormalities amenable to ultrasound diagnosis are likely to be present. However, neither
