The rate of glutamate synthesis from leucine by the branched-chain aminotransferase was measured in rat brain in vivo at steady state. The rats were fed exclusively by intravenous infusion of a nutrient solution containing [15N]leucine. BACKGROUND: Although nutritionally dispensable amino acids are not essential in the diet, adequate synthesis is necessary for maintenance of good health. Hyperpolarization is generated by dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (d-DNP) using a polymer-based polarizing agent dubbed FLAP (filterable labeled agents for polarization). It consists of a thermo-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), also known as pNiPAM-COOH, labeled with nitroxide radicals. The polymer powder is impregnated with an arbitrary solution of interest and frozen as is. Clinical and paraclinical data of 91 neonates of the Saxon regions of Leipzig and of Torgau/Elbe were reviewed and correlated to the environmental conditions of the places of residence of their mothers during pregnancy.
