Background Root ZX3, a high-frequency dental generator introduced in 2021, utilizes high-frequency current (HFC) within the root canal to coagulate and incinerate pulp tissue in seconds. Despite its clinical potential, evidence regarding its specific application for symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP) remains scarce. This study aims to evaluate the safety and clinical effectiveness of Root ZX3 for the management of SIP in a dedicated clinical trial. Specifically, the primary objective is to assess the immediate relief of spontaneous pain (primary endpoint) and the incidence of adverse even

Chromium in the hexavalent form, Cr(VI), has long been recognized as a carcinogen and there is concern as to the effects of continuous low-level exposure to chromium both occupationally and environmentally. This review summarizes the available exposure data and known health effects and evaluates the potential risk to human health in the United Kingdom. Chromium emissions to the environment in the United Kingdom are predominantly derived from fuel combustion, waste incineration, and industrial processes. The less toxic trivalent form of chromium [Cr(III)] is dominant in most environmental compa

BACKGROUND: Climate change poses a significant threat to global health, risking decades of progress in public health gains and threatening the ability of developing countries to achieve universal health care goals. In response, healthcare systems worldwide are beginning to assess and mitigate their environmental impacts, ideally alongside building their resilience to climate change. Most of this work has centred on high-emitting health systems in high-income countries, yet a large number of developing countries are also committed to reducing the environmental impact of health care and in doing

UNLABELLED: An activated carbon commercially available named HGR, produced by Calgon-Carbon Group, was used to adsorbe metallic mercury. The work is part of a wider research activity by the same group focused on the removal of metallic and divalent mercury from combustion flue gas. With respect to previously published papers, this one is aimed at studying in depth thermodynamic equilibria of metallic mercury adsorption onto a commercial activated carbon. The innovativeness lies in the wider operative conditions explored (temperature and mercury concentrations) and in the evaluation of kinetic

The effects of adding municipal solid waste (MSW) or poultry manure (PM) on the biochemical properties of a soil polluted with Cr and Cd were studied. Soil was mixed with Cr(NO(3))(3) and Cd(NO(3))(2) to give three concentrations (0, 100, and 250 mg Cr kg(-1) and 0, 100, and 250 mg Cd kg(-1)) in the soil, which was then treated with MSW at a rate of 10% or PM at a rate of 7.6%. The pH and biochemical parameters were measured at 0 and 120 days. An unamended and no-polluted soil was used as control. Compared with the non-polluted soil, for the 250 mg Cd kg(-1) treatment the microbial biomass-C,

The Pennsylvania greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory presented in this paper provides detailed estimates of emissions and their sources for the six major categories of GHGs. The inventory was compiled using the current U.S. Environment Protection Agency methodology, which applies emissions factors to socioeconomic data, such as fossil energy use, vehicle miles traveled, and industrial production. The paper also contains an assessment of the methodology and suggestions for improving accounting with respect to process, sectoral, and geographic considerations. The study found that Pennsylvan

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have focused on the association between endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and hypospadias. Phenotype variability, the absence of representative comparison groups and concomitant genetic testing prevent any definitive conclusions.
OBJECTIVE: To identify the role of occupational and environmental exposures to EDCs in nongenetic isolated hypospadias.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A total of 408 consecutive children with isolated hypospadias and 302 normal boys were prospectively included (2009-2014) in a multi-institutional study in the south of France, the

Osteoporosis international : a journal established as result of cooperation between the European Foundation for Osteoporosis and the National Osteoporosis Foundation of the USA1997eng
Widespread osteoporosis testing and diagnosis are currently limited due to the high capital cost and reduced portability of many existing bone densitometry techniques. In this study we evaluated an inexpensive, low radiation, X-ray-based technique for assessing bone density of the middle phalanx. The technique, termed computed digital absorptiometry (CDA), is similar to radiographic absorptiometry (RA), using a single-energy X-ray source, an aluminum alloy step-wedge, and a charge-coupled device (CCD) detector system to automatically compute bone mineral content (BMC, g) and bone mineral densi

Millions of End-of-Life (EoL) reverse osmosis (RO) membranes are discarded each year by desalination facilities worldwide. This poses a significant environmental challenge, as large amounts of solid waste are often managed through landfilling or incineration. Recycling EoL RO membranes for reuse as nanofiltration (NF) or ultrafiltration (UF) membranes is an attractive pathway for the effective management of solid waste. However, the commonly adopted route to degrade the polyamide active layer of the EoL membranes for recycling and reuse requires high-intensity exposure of the membranes to the

BACKGROUND: The soil environment is a natural reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes (ARG). It plays a crucial role in the emergence and dissemination of antibiotic resistance determinants. Anthropogenic activities, such as using antibiotics in healthcare facilities, aggravate the proliferation of ARG in soil. Exploring the soil environment can help in gaining insight about the presence, prevalence, and distribution of antibiotic resistance determinants. In the current study, we tried to isolate antibiotic-resistant bacteria from soil samples collected from around the incinerator at Shri Mat

ConspectusThe world's plastics production continues to grow and could triple by 2060. Unfortunately, only a small proportion of these plastics are currently recycled (around 30%). The remainder is incinerated (around 40%), causing high greenhouse gas emissions, or buried (around 30%), resulting in high levels of microplastic pollution. Ambitious national and international policies have been put in place to increase the proportion of recycled plastics, and major research efforts are underway to improve plastic recycling processes. Unfortunately, all recycling processes (chemical, physical, and

Recently, there have been calls for health geographers to add critical and theoretical debate to 'post-medical' geographies, whilst at the same time informing 'new' public health strategies (Soc. Sci. Med. 50(9)1273; Area 33(4) (2002) 361). In this paper we reflect on how, alongside 'professional epidemiologies', 'citizen epidemiologies' can have credibility in informing public health policy and practice. We do this by drawing on mixed method and participatory research that used a citizens' panel to articulate the health and social outcomes of the 2001 foot and mouth disease disaster. We consi

Municipal solid waste management (MSWM) in Jordan faces significant challenges. Jordan's primary waste management strategy relies heavily on final disposal, with up to 80% of all generated solid waste ultimately being landfilled. These unsustainable practices lead to environmental degradation and public health risks. Increased methane emissions have harmed air quality: methane can lead to the formation of ground-level ozone, which in turn causes respiratory problems including asthma and pneumonia. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of improved solid waste management str

This paper highlights the complexity and urgency of addressing plastic pollution, drawing attention to the environmental challenges posed by improperly discarded plastics. Petroleum-based plastic polymers, with their remarkable range of physical properties, have revolutionized industries worldwide. Their versatility-from flexible to rigid and hydrophilic to hydrophobic-has fueled an ever-growing demand. However, their versatility has also contributed to a massive global waste problem as plastics pervade virtually every ecosystem, from the depths of oceans to the most remote terrestrial landsca

Multiple controls established during the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) epidemic were not solely applied to BSE in cattle, but were implemented for scrapie in sheep and goats due to concerns over the occurrence of BSE in sheep. In the absence of BSE in sheep being observed, control measures for prion diseases are now being evaluated to ensure they remain proportionate to risk. This risk assessment, aims to estimate, by use of stochastic simulation, the impact of reducing controls for Specified Risk Materials (SRM) from sheep at abattoir. Three scenarios have been included: 1) current l

Long term monitoring of the physical and chemical effects of using coal-combustion residues (CCRs), in particular fixated flue gas desulfurization (FGD) sludge, as a major component in the reclamation of a pyritic refuse deposit was undertaken to determine the beneficial and detrimental consequences of placing these controversial materials in an unrestricted environment. Monitoring wells, neutron probe access tubes, and weirs were installed before and after reclamation to observe hydrologic conditions and determine how the use of FGD sludge as a recharge barrier was affecting hydrochemical res

Human-generated waste, including infectious healthcare waste, poses significant risks to public health and the environment. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the global production of infectious waste, emphasizing the need for safe and sustainable waste management practices. While autoclaves are commonly used for on-site disposal, alternative methods like ozone gas and UV-C radiation offer environmentally friendly options that effectively eliminate pathogens without leaving toxic residues. Inadequate waste management can contribute to disease transmission, while open burning releases harmful

A consistent association between exposure to high concentrations of ambient particulate matter (PM) and excess cardiopulmonary-related morbidity and mortality has been observed in numerous epidemiological studies, across many different geographical locations. To elicit a similar response in a controlled laboratory setting, spontaneously hypertensive rats were exposed to an oil combustion-derived PM (HP-12) and monitored for changes in pulmonary function and indices of pulmonary injury. Rats were implanted with radiotelemeters to monitor electrocardiogram, heart rate, systemic arterial blood pr
