Management of biomechanical complication of implant-supported restoration of a patient with combination syndrome: a case report.

Combination syndrome (CS) is a pathologic condition of the stomatognathic system characterized by an edentulous maxilla with an atrophic anterior ridge, maxillary papillary hyperplasia, hypertrophic maxillary tuberosities, super-erupted mandibular anterior teeth, as well as atrophic mandibular posterior ridges. This condition can present a challenging situation to the clinician who needs to assemble evidence from all aspects of dentistry to formulate an appropriate treatment plan. One of the possible treatment choices for the fully edentulous patient with a CS is a full-arch implant-supported

Posterior cruciate-substituting total knee replacement recovers the flexion arc faster in the early postoperative period in knees with high varus deformity: a prospective randomized study.

INTRODUCTION: Posterior cruciate retention (CR) and substitution (PS) has been controversial in knee replacement surgery. Satisfactory medium and long-term results have been reported in knees with and without deformity but there are limited studies about early functional comparison in terms of recovery of flexion arc, stair activity, walking ability and straight leg raising, especially, in early postoperative period in knees with deformity. Therefore, we aimed to compare the flexion arc in CR and PS knees in postoperative first year including early postoperative days prospectively. METHODS: C

Complete oral rehabilitation of a patient with hereditary gingival fibromatosis: a clinical report.

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis is a rare disease that has several debilitating oral and psychological manifestations, especially with young children and adolescents. The complexity of the treatment as well as the timing relative to the growth and maturation of the patient present a challenge. Few treatment options have been reported in the literature. This clinical report presents a multidisciplinary approach to treating a young patient with hereditary gingival fibromatosis by using implant-supported prostheses. The treatment steps and its outcome are discussed.

Attachment of clips in a bar-retained maxillary implant overdenture: a clinical report.

Implant-supported overdentures are a good alternative for patients with conventional dentures that lack retention and stability. The most common prosthetic complications in mandibular and maxillary implant-supported overdentures are fracture and loosening of the attachment system. This clinical report describes the treatment of a completely edentulous patient with sinus floor elevation by using bone from the iliac crest and the insertion of 4 implants in the maxilla and mandible followed by implant-supported overdentures. The technical procedure for the attachment of clips to an acrylic resin

Single-stage implantation in the atrophic alveolar ridge of the mandible with the Norian skeletal repair system.

Dental implants have played a part in rehabilitation of the jaws for more than 40 years, but in some cases they alone are inadequate because of extreme alveolar resorption. Correction may necessitate a two-stage procedure with additional interventions. We have made a preliminary study of the use of the Norian skeletal repair system (SRS), a carbonated calcium phosphate bone cement used to augment the alveolar ridge as a single-stage procedure, with the placement of implants. Ten edentulous patients with insufficient vertical bone in the interforaminal area were treated. After a horizontal oste

Five-year study of implant placement in regenerated bone and rehabilitation with telescopic crown retained dentures: a case report.

Various implant-supported restorations have been used successfully for several decades to rehabilitate edentulous patients. Telescopic crowns are a common treatment modality used to connect dentures to natural teeth. Although previous findings indicate that telescopic crowns can be placed successfully on implants to support overdentures, only limited data are available on this treatment approach. Eight months after extraction of all nonsalvageable teeth and socket preservation, 11 implants were inserted into the mandible and maxillae of one patient. These implants were restored 4 months later

Cutting torque measurements in conjunction with implant placement in grafted and nongrafted maxillas as an objective evaluation of bone density: a possible method for identifying early implant failures?

BACKGROUND: Bone grafts are frequently used to enable the placement of dental implants in atrophied jaws. The biomechanical properties of bone grafts used in one- or two-stage implant procedures (in comparison with the use of nongrafted bone) are not well known. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was (1) to measure cutting torques during the placement of self-tapping dental implants in nongrafted bone and in bone grafts, either as blocks or in a milled particulate form, in patients undergoing implant treatment in an edentulous maxilla and (2) to identify implants with reduced initial stabilit

Five-year evaluation of implants placed at extraction and with dehiscences and fenestration defects augmented with ePTFE membranes: results from a prospective multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Barrier membranes have been used to promote bone ingrowth on implants with dehiscences and fenestrations. Membranes also have been used to protect defects adjacent to implants placed at the time of extraction. The concept of guided bone regeneration relates to preferentially allowing cells from bone to migrate into various defects while excluding fibrous tissue and epithelium. The purpose of these procedures is to enhance bone-to-implant contact at the treated sites and to prevent mucosal complications. PURPOSE: The purpose of this article is to report clinical outcomes for implan

Fixed full-arch implant-supported prostheses in a patient with epidermolysis bullosa: a clinical case history report.

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare skin disorder characterized by blister formation in response to minor trauma and accompanied by extracutaneous manifestations. The use of endosseous implants to support fixed prostheses for the rehabilitation of patients with recessive dystrophic EB might provide a considerably better clinical treatment outcome than traditional prosthodontic interventions. This case history report describes the clinical management of such an afflicted patient. Implants were placed immediately following teeth extractions and subsequently loaded with fixed full-arch prosthese

Prosthodontic rehabilitation of a patient diagnosed with multiple idiopathic root resorption.

A female college student was referred by her general dentist for evaluation of the interproximal caries-like lesions discovered during her biannual visit. The lesions were determined to result from external resorption of unknown origin. After the most affected teeth had been extracted and the other teeth were restored after periodontal surgery, an interim partial removable dental prosthesis was placed. Two months later, the resorption pattern had proliferated to the rest of her dentition, thus revising the treatment plan to involve full mouth extractions and to place immediate maxillary and ma

Upper and lower full arch dental reconstruction with implant supported overdentures: a case study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: In clinical situations where implant placement in the maxilla is prohibited due to the lack of available bone, more invasive techniques such as autogenous bone grafting and sinus augmentation are often off-putting to patients due to the added expense, risk and morbidity. Purpose of treatment: The intention of this treatment was to dentally restore a patient with a severely resorbed edentulous maxilla, without the use of any grafting techniques. METHODS: Under local anaesthetic, five implants were placed in the patient's maxilla using the combined techniques of alveolar r
