Current ablation techniques for persistent atrial fibrillation: results of the European Heart Rhythm Association Survey.

The aim of this survey was to provide insight into current practice regarding ablation of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) among members of the European Heart Rhythm Association electrophysiology research network. Thirty centres responded to the survey. The main ablation technique for first-time ablation was stand-alone pulmonary vein isolation (PVI): in 67% of the centres for persistent but not long-standing AF and in 37% of the centres for long-standing persistent AF as well. Other applied techniques were ablation of fractionated electrograms, placement of linear lesions, stepwise approac

Modified technique improves efficacy for in-office posterior nasal nerve ablation.

OBJECTIVES: Posterior nasal nerve (PNN) ablation is a minimally invasive treatment option for patients with chronic rhinitis. Recent evidence shows that parasympathetic innervation of the nasal cavity is more extensive and there are many fibers posterior to the lateral attachment of the middle turbinate. We describe a modified ablative technique that targets the extensive innervation of the posterior nasal nerves. METHODS: Description of the technique and retrospective cohort analysis. In addition to the traditional radiofrequency and cryoablation targets, three additional treatment sites pos

Combining conventional technique with fluoroscopy integration module in accessory pathway ablation.

INTRODUCTION: Accessory pathway (AP) ablation is a straightforward approach with high success rates, but the fluoroscopy time (FT) is significantly longer in conventional technique. Electroanatomical mapping systems (EMS), reduce the FT, but anatomical and activation mapping may prolong the procedure time (PT). The fluoroscopy integration module (FIM) uses prerecorded fluoroscopy images and allows ablation similar to conventional technique without creating an anatomical map. In this study, we investigated the effects of combining the FIM with traditional technique on PT, success, and radiation

Result and technique consideration of radiofrequency catheter ablation of tachycardia in patients with dextrocardia.

BACKGROUND: Patients with tachycardia, in the context of pre-existing dextrocardia, could benefit from catheter ablation. However, anatomical complexities hinder effective conduct of this procedure. We aimed to retrospectively summarize the clinical characteristics and the safety and efficiency, and recommended the technique considerations. METHODS: Twenty-one cases from 19 patients with tachycardia and dextrocardia, who underwent catheter ablation between 2009 and 2021, were enrolled. All patients underwent echocardiography and computed tomography (CT) to confirm the anatomical malformations

Bilateral occipital dysplasia, seizure identification, and ablation: a novel surgical technique.

MRI-guided thermal ablation is a relatively new technique utilising heat to ablate both tumours and epileptogenic lesions. Its use against epilepsy offers some patients a new and relatively safe way of reducing or aborting seizures. Most cases of MRI-guided thermal ablation have been performed in patients with isolated lesions. Placement of depth electrodes prior to laser ablation has been rarely performed. We present a case with bilateral independent lesions traversing eloquent cortex, which, after sampling for seizures and successful ablation, retained normal function. The patient is, to dat

A novel technique for orchiectomy and scrotal ablation in the sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps).

In this report, we describe a simple, safe, and efficacious technique for orchiectomy and scrotal ablation with the use of a carbon dioxide light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (laser) in sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps). The study population included nine sugar gliders, ages 2-24 mo, presented for orchiectomy. After induction of general anesthesia, orchiectomy and scrotal ablation were performed by severing the scrotal stalk with the laser. All sugar gliders were discharged the same day. Mean anesthesia time was 6.09 +/- 0.94 min. Mean surgery time was 15.11 +/- 8.39 sec,

Stereotactic radiofrequency ablation for sessile hypothalamic hamartoma with an image fusion technique.

BACKGROUND: Radiosurgery has been advocated as a primary treatment for hypothalamic hamartoma (HH), but it has a risk of damaging the surrounding structures and does not have an immediate effect for refractory epilepsy, endocrinological and mental disorders. METHOD: We report on a 13-year-old boy with a large and sessile HH who presented with intractable seizures, precocious puberty and aggressiveness. Stereotactic radiofrequency ablation (SRA) combined with an image fusion technique was performed to make a maximum ablative lesion within the HH via multiple trajectories. FINDINGS: After surg

Refining Knee Radiofrequency Ablation with a Palisade- Guided Technique: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis is a leading cause of chronic pain and disability, and many patients have persistent pain despite conservative treatment or are not candidates for arthroplasty. Contemporary anatomical studies show that the classical three-nerve genicular radiofrequency ablation (RFA) model does not adequately reflect the multibranch innervation of the anterior knee capsule, which may limit efficacy. Structured preprocedural planning may help standardize cannula placement, however, its clinical and anatomical validity requires further investigation. CASE PRESENTATION: We report

A novel technique for frame-based MR-guided laser ablation in an infant.

Hypothalamic hamartomata (HH) not only are usually associated with drug-resistant epilepsy but can also cause precocious puberty and developmental delay. Gelastic seizures are the most common type of seizures. Magnetic resonance image (MRI)-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (LiTT) is a technique whereby a laser fibre is stereotactically implanted into a target lesion and heat is used to ablate whilst tissue temperature is monitored using MRI thermography. MRI-guided LiTT has proven to be an effective and safe method to treat HH. To use the LiTT system, highly accurate stereotactic fibr
