Correlation of axial length and corneal curvature with diopter in eyes of adults with anisometropia.

PURPOSE: To analyze the causes of anisometropia. METHODS: Between June 2011 and November 2012 101 participants were divided into three groups. The refraction comprising the degree of refractive errors in the presence of astigmatism which was converted into the degree of spherical equivalent as well as ocular axial length (AL), corneal curvature (CR), average corneal power (ave K) and diopters were measured. RESULTS: The differences of ocular AL/CR and CR between two eyes were statistically significant among the three groups (P < 0.05). Standardized regression coefficients obtained by a multi

Anisometropia in children with neurofibromatosis type 1 and unilateral optic nerve glioma.

BACKGROUND: Optic nerve glioma (ONG) occurs in 5% to 25% of individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Recently an association between this lesion and unilateral myopia was reported in a series of 4 pediatric patients. The purpose of this study was to determine whether unilateral ONG is associated with an increased prevalence of anisometropia. METHODS: The medical records of children <16 years of age with NF1 disease and unilateral ONG or normal neuroimaging examined at Tel-Aviv Medical Center between April 2008 and July 2013 were retrospectively reviewed to determine the prevalence of

Markedly asymmetric buphthalmos but without anisometropia in a girl with primary congenital glaucoma.

Amblyogenic anisometropia is common in children with primary congenital glaucoma who have asymmetric buphthalmos. We report the case of a 6-year-old girl with markedly asymmetric buphthalmos but without anisometropia. Biometry confirmed that the more buphthalmic eye was longer than the contralateral eye and also had flatter keratometry.

Experimentally induced anisometropia thresholds for distance stereoacuity in adults: A psychophysical approach.

PURPOSE: Stereopsis, a critical aspect of binocular vision, can be influenced by refractive errors. This study investigated how experimentally induced anisometropia affected distance stereopsis in adults and aimed to determine threshold levels for different types and amounts of experimentally induced anisometropia. METHODS: Twenty healthy adults (aged 20-45 years) with normal visual acuity and baseline distance stereopsis were included. Distance stereopsis was assessed using the Distance Randot Stereotest at 3 m. Trial lenses inducing myopic, hyperopic and astigmatic anisometropia (axes: 45°,

Automated static perimetry: the influence of myopic anisometropia on evaluation of visual field.

The aim of study was to establish which level of myopic refractive error influences visual field defects in automated static perimetry, if these defects are typical, and if optimal correction normalized the visual field. The study included 100 patients (200 eyes) divided into three groups according to the severity of the myopic refractive error: group A (till -3.25 Dsph), group B (-3.50 Dsph to -5.25 Dsph) and group C (-5.50 Dsph to -8.00 Dsph). The control group included 20 emmetropes (40 eyes). This study confirms that optimal corrected and uncorrected myopia up to -3.25 Dsph does not produc

Change in refractive anisometropia in presbyopic adults wearing monovision contact lens correction.

BACKGROUND: Researchers studying the refractive development of infant monkeys suggest that monocular refractive error changes in response to induced ametropia; specifically, slightly blurring one eye may cause a difference to develop between each eye's correction (anisometropia) when none existed before wearing the correction. The important question of whether similar changes occur in humans has not been addressed. METHODS: We compared premonovision correction and the correction after at least 12 months of monovision soft contact lens wear (artificially induced anisometropia prescribed to foc
