Optimization of removal of indigo carmine dye by silver-iron oxide bimetallic nanoparticles through response surface methodology modelling: experimental and theoretical mechanistic insights.

This study describes the easy synthesis and application of silver-iron oxide bimetallic nanoparticles (AgFe BNPs) for the removal of organic dye "Indigo Carmine" (IC) from the aqueous solution. To investigate this potential, we used the rose petals extract during the aqueous phase to create bimetallic Ag-Fe nanoparticles. It also describes the structural, morphological, elemental composition, vibrational, and optical characterization of synthesised AgFe BNPs. To identify the ideal circumstances for IC dye removal, several variables influencing dye adsorption were examined, including the impact

A Facile Ginger Straw-Based Self-Nitrogen-Doped Biochar Activated by NaHCO3: Fast and Efficient Adsorption Toward Food Dyes of Tartrazine and Carmine.

Food industry wastewater containing synthetic dyes threatens ecological safety and human health. Therefore, efficient and environmentally friendly adsorbents that can remove synthetic food dyes from wastewater are urgently needed. In this work, a self-nitrogen-doped biochar (GSNBC), used for adsorption of food dyes including carmine and tartrazine, was facilely prepared by employing ginger straw waste as the carbon precursor and NaHCO3 as a mild and relatively benign pore-forming agent via one-step pyrolysis. The as-prepared GSNBC featured well-developed porous structures, a specific surface a

Incorporation of carminic acid in gelatin/chitosan nanoparticles for stabilizing high internal phase Pickering emulsions and its functional 3D/4D printing.

Gelatin/chitosan nanoparticles loaded with carminic acid were adopted to construct and stabilize high internal phase Pickering emulsions for 3D/4D printing. Carminic acid was incorporated into gelatin/chitosan nanoparticles with excellent compatibility via interactions like hydrogen bonding and bridging flocculation. These gelatin/chitosan/carminic acid complex nanoparticles exhibited outstanding emulsifying ability, due to the fact that nanoparticle's amphiphilicity (hydrophilic-lipophilic balance) and interfacial wettability (contact angle) promoted its adsorption at the oil-water interface.

Dual carminic acid/hemin-marked DNA probes for simultaneously detecting CV-A16 and EV-A71 based on the mechanism of dimer to monomer transition.

This study aimed to prepare two hairpin-structure DNA probes by conjugating carminic acid (CA) or hemin into two ends of specific genes of coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16) and enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) (probeCV-A16-CA and probeEV-A71-hemin). Then, probeCV-A16-CA and probeEV-A71-hemin as the signal molecules were adsorbed onto NH2-MIL-53 (Al) (MOF). Based on these biocomposites, an electrochemical biosensor with dual-signal outputs for simultaneous assay of CV-A16 and EV-A71 was constructed. The stem-loops of probes switched both CA and hemin monomer to dimer, reducing the electrical activity of both

Usefulness of indigo carmine chromoendoscopy for detecting gastric cancer and gastric adenoma during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (INDIGO study): protocol for a prospective multicentre observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Early gastric cancer is characterised by subtle mucosal and colour changes that frequently lead to missed lesions during routine endoscopy, making detection difficult. Indigo carmine spraying is a classical chromoendoscopic method to enhance mucosal surface irregularities and has been believed to have the potential to facilitate the detection of early gastric neoplasia. This method is widely used in Japan; however, whether it improves gastric neoplasm detection remains unclear. In this prospective study, we aim to evaluate the usefulness of indigo carmine spraying for detecting g

Carminic acid supplementation protects against fructose-induced kidney injury mainly through suppressing inflammation and oxidative stress via improving Nrf-2 signaling.

Excessive fructose (Fru) intake has become an increased risk for chronic kidney disease progression. Despite extensive researches that have been performed to develop effective treatments against Fru-induced renal injury, the outcome has achieved limited success. In this study, we attempted to explore whether carminic acid (CA) could influence the progression of Fru-induced kidney injury, and the underlying molecular mechanism. At first, our in vitro results showed that CA significantly reduced inflammation in mouse tubular epithelial cells and human tubule epithelial cells stimulated by Fru. T

From a Cochineal Dye to the Possibility of an Anticancer Agent: Free Radical-Mediated Activity of Carminic Acid and Its CoII Complex on Nucleobases, DNA, and PC3 Prostate Carcinoma Cells.

Anthracycline-based anticancer agents perform through different modes; the free radical pathway is just one of them. Although they are effective anticancer agents, for different reasons, there is a lookout for simpler analogs that mimic their actions. Carminic acid, having a close resemblance to anthracyclines, and its CoII-complex were investigated for activity related to the generation of semiquinone. The compounds were reduced at their respective reduction potentials, which were previously identified using cyclic voltammetry. Interactions between reduced species of the compounds and biologi

Spectral characterization of micellar-enhanced fluorescence of europium (III)-doxycycline complex and its employment as a sensor for development of a highly sensitive fluorimetric assay for determination of indigo carmine in real syrups.

Indigo carmine (IN-CR) is a synthetic blue dye widely used as a coloring agent in various food and beverage products. It is recognized for its ability to enhance the visual appeal, hue, and consistency of food products. However, recent studies have raised concerns about the potential health risks associated with this substance. Therefore, a highly sensitive analytical tool is required for the trace determination of IN-CR in food products. This study describes the spectral characteristics of micellar-enhanced fluorescence of europium (III)-doxycycline complex and its employment as a sensor for

The role of natural color additives in food allergy.

A critical evaluation of the available information demonstrates that reactions to natural color additives are rare. Studies of turmeric and carotenoid pigments administered in mixtures with other food colorings failed to definitely identify reactions to either color additive. For carotenoids, the one case report of an adverse reaction was not conclusive. An anaphylactic reaction to saffron does suggest an IgE-mediated reaction, but the high use of saffron as compared with this single report of an adverse reaction suggests that sensitivity to saffron is extremely rare. Numerous reports of react

Comparison of the indocyanine green dye method versus the combined method of indigo carmine blue dye with indocyanine green fluorescence imaging for sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast conservative therapy for stage ≤IIA breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Fluorescence imaging (FI) is one of the methods to identify sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs). However, the procedure is technically complicated and requires procedural skills, as SLN biopsy must be conducted in dim light conditions. As an improved version of this method, we introduced a combined method (Combined mixed dye and fluorescence; CMF) consisting of indigo carmine blue dye and FI. The direct visualization of SLNs under shadowless surgical light conditions is facilitated by the addition of the blue dye. We compared the SLN detection rates of CMF with that of the indocyanine gree

At the Scrub Sink: Evaluation of Ureteric Patency During Cystoscopy.

At the scrub sink, we discussed the best ways to evaluate for ureteric patency during cystoscopy. For decades, surgeons have been using intravenous indigo carmine for evaluating ureteric patency. Ten years ago, a shortage of indigo carmine halted production. In response to the shortage of indigo carmine, surgeons went into action, developing alternative strategies that are evidence-based and cost-effective. The shortage is over now; the lessons we learned as a subspeciality can help us address the next challenge.

Rapid separation and determination of synthetic and natural yellow dyes in food and drinks using mini-column packed with polyamine-modified silica.

A green, rapid and simple method has been proposed for the separation and sorption-spectrometric and test-determination of synthetic (Quinoline Yellow, Sunset Yellow, Tartrazine) and natural (β-Carotene, Curcumin, Carmine) dyes. Mini-column filled with polyamine-modified silica were used for the first time for this purpose. Polyhexamethylene guanidine and poly(diallyldimethylammonium) - polyamine with a quaternary ammonium base - were used as polyamines. Synthetic dyes, Carmine were quantitatively extracted by aminated silicas at pH 1-2 and 5-8. The separation of synthetic and natural dyes was

Cochineal dye-induced immediate allergy: Review of Japanese cases and proposed new diagnostic chart.

BACKGROUND: Cochineal dye is used worldwide as a red coloring in foods, drinks, cosmetics, quasi-drugs, and drugs. The main component of the red color is carminic acid (CA). Carmine is an aluminum- or calcium-chelated product of CA. CA and carmine usually contain contaminating proteins, including a 38-kDa protein thought to be the primary allergen. Severe allergic reactions manifest as anaphylaxis. The aim of this study was to review all Japanese reported cases and propose useful diagnostic chart. METHODS: All reported Japanese cases of cochineal dye-induced immediate allergy were reviewed, a
