The central nervous system (CNS) is a vital part of the human nervous system, and the incidence of CNS disease is increasing year by year, which has become a major public health problem and a prominent social problem. At present, the drugs most commonly used in the clinic are receptor regulators, and neurotransmitter inhibitors, but they are accompanied by serious side effects. Therefore, the identification of new drugs and treatment strategies for CNS disease has been a research hotspot in the medical field. Central nervous system (CNS) dissemination is a severe complication in cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Brain metastases (BMs) are the most common types of malignant intracranial tumors and are reported in approximately 25% of patients with metastatic cancers. The recent increase in incidence of BMs is due to several factors including better diagnostic assessments and the development of improved systemic therapies that have lower activity on the CNS. However, newer systemic therapies are being developed that can cross the blood-brain barrier giving us additional tools to

Neurologic complications occur frequently in patients with cancer. After routine chemotherapy, these complications are the most common reason for hospitalization of these patients. Brain metastases are the most prevalent complication, affecting 20 to 40 percent of cancer patients and typically presenting as headache, altered mental status or focal weakness. Other common metastatic complications are epidural spinal cord compression and leptomeningeal metastases. Cord compression can be a medical emergency, and the rapid institution of high-dose corticosteroid therapy, radiation therapy or surgi

PURPOSE: Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare, aggressive form of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma. To predict the overall survival (OS) in advance is of utmost importance as it has the potential to aid clinical decision-making. Though radiomics-based machine learning (ML) has demonstrated the promising performance in PCNSL, it demands large amounts of manual feature extraction efforts from magnetic resonance images beforehand. deep learning (DL) overcomes this limitation.
METHODS: In this paper, we tailored the 3D ResNet to predict the OS of patients with PCNSL. To overco

BACKGROUND: Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare primary brain tumor. Because of its rarity and the increasing incidence rates as the U.S. population ages, it is important for nurses to understand the unique needs of patients and their caregivers during the disease continuum.
OBJECTIVES: This article provides an overview of the treatment and nursing management of immunocompetent patients with PCNSL.
METHODS: An extensive examination of the current literature, including incidence, diagnosis, treatment, and implications for nursing, was performed.
FINDINGS: Nurses play a

Primary central nervous system (CNS) tumours are heterogeneous, with different treatment pathways and prognoses depending on their histological and molecular classification. Due to their anatomical location, all CNS tumours, regardless of malignancy, can be debilitating. We used vital statistics linked to Canadian Cancer Registry data to estimate the age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR), Kaplan-Meier survival rates (SR), and limited-duration prevalence proportions (PP) of 25 histology-specific CNS tumour groups that were classified based on site and histology. During 2010-2017, 45,115 patie

BACKGROUND Masson's tumor, also known as intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH), is an unusual endothelial proliferation that leads to improper thrombus development due to faulty endothelial structure. Although IPEH is rare in the central nervous system, it can arise at any location in the brain. Headaches, seizures, and focal neurological symptoms ae the most common presenting symptoms. It is more common in females and it can occur at any age. CASE REPORT Herein, we present a 65-year-old female patient with a progressively enlarging right temporal lobe mass that was initially

Purpose: Central nervous system (CNS) metastasis from cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) are extremely rare and associated prognosis is poor. The involvement of the CNS by metastatic CCA may discourage any further treatment; however, data from the literature are discordant, due to recent reports of exceptionally long follow-up after surgical resection of a brain metastasis.Material and Methods: Electronic databases, such as PubMed/MEDLINE and Google Scholar, were analyzed for studies published up to October 2018 using the search term "cholangiocarcinoma and central nervous system metastasis or brain met

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculous involvement of the central nervous system is uncommon in western countries. Brain tuberculoma is a granulomatous inflammatory process than in rare occasions can simulate a malignant neoplasm.
CASE REPORT: A 81-year-old man regarding symptoms of several weeks of evolution of numbness affecting upper limb and right face. The neuroimaging studies showed a left parietal lesion suggestive of a primary malignant tumor. A stereotactic biopsy was performed and the pathological examination showed a brain tuberculoma. The patient was treated with anti-tuberculous drugs.

In this review, we discuss primary central nervous system lymphomas: a rare type of tumours confined to the central nervous system. The disease is associated with a poor prognosis, which, however, generally has seen steady improvement over the last four decades, particularly in the younger population. Modern surgical techniques are reserved for diagnosis and has no place in the treatment, which mainly relies on high-dose polychemotherapy treatment regimes with methotrexate as the backbone.

Cerebral cavernous malformations are benign vascular anomalies of the central nervous system (CNS). The clinical presentation of a cavernoma depends on its location. The majority of patients with cavernomas are asymptomatic. The most common symptoms include epileptic seizures, focal neurological deficits and/or headaches. The clinical management of cavernomas is challenging because numerous factors influence decision-making. These factors include the risk stratification of cavernoma-related hemorrhage, weighing the risks of surgical intervention against the natural course of the cavernoma and

Cavernous malformations (CM) represent a distinct subgroup of brain vascular malformations that are characterized by small sinusoidal vascular channels with hyaline degeneration and old blood pigments. Because of the increasing availability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) they are detected much more frequently in the present era. CM may be solitary or found in the context of a familial variant that results in an increasing number of CM developing as the patient ages. Because of the variable risk of subacute bleeding, their management options have been controversial. The annual risk of an i

Direct or incidental exposure of the nervous system to therapeutic irradiation carries the risk of symptomatic neurologic injury. Central nervous system toxicity from radiation includes focal cerebral necrosis, neurocognitive deficits, and less commonly cerebrovascular disease, myelopathy, or the occurrence of a radiation-induced neoplasm. Brachial or lumbosacral plexopathy are the most common syndromes of radiation toxicity affecting the peripheral nervous system. This article focuses on the clinical features, diagnosis, and management options for patients with radiation neurotoxicity.
