Playing dirty: the shady governance and reproduction of migrant illegality.

State authorities in Europe invest immense resources in what the EU insists on calling the 'fight against illegal migration'. Based on ethnographic research in two German cities, this paper shows that a tough approach towards illegalised migration can only be implemented through state practices that operate at the margins of, or even cross, the boundaries of what is legally permissible. This argument is developed through an analysis of informal practices that frontline staff in registry offices and migration administrations deploy to prevent, or at least disturb, illegalised migrants' attempts

A national registry study evaluated the landscape of kidney transplantation among presumed unauthorized immigrants in the United States.

Unauthorized immigrants and permanent residents may experience challenges in accessing kidney transplantation due to limited healthcare access, socioeconomic and cultural barriers. Understanding the United States (US) national landscape of kidney transplantation for non-citizens may inform policy changes. To evaluate this, we utilized two cohorts from the US national registry (2013-2023): 287,481 adult candidates for first transplant listing and 190,176 adult first transplant recipients. Citizenship was categorized as US citizen (reference), permanent resident, and presumed unauthorized immigr

Tourist value co-creation behavior in immersive cultural tourism spaces: a case study of "the longest day in chang'an".

INTRODUCTION: Under the backdrop of continuous technological advancement and growing demands for tourist experiences, immersive cultural tourism spaces not only respond to the market need for profound engagement but also serve as crucial drivers for high-quality development in cultural industries. METHODS: Taking "The Longest Day in Chang'an" as a case, this research constructs a "sense of immersion → emotional arousal → tourist value co-creation behavior" chain mediation model based on the Cognition-Affect-Behavior (CAB) framework and cognitive appraisal theory, with destination familiarity

Value co-creation and customer satisfaction in last-mile delivery services: The roles of digital accessibility and delivery service quality.

Despite substantial improvements in speed and coverage, customer satisfaction with last-mile delivery remains inconsistent, particularly in complex urban environments where rising consumer expectations, traffic congestion, and operational pressures create persistent challenges. This study investigates the influence of customer value co-creation behaviors, customer participation behaviors (CPB), and customer citizenship behaviors (CCB), on customer satisfaction (CS), examining the mediating role of delivery service quality (DSQ) dimensions and the moderating role of digital accessibility (DA).

The enemy within one's own ranks: Meta-analysis on the effects of psychopathy on workplace-related behavior.

Despite the large and growing number of studies on psychopathy in the workplace, the field lacks a comprehensive understanding of the link between psychopathy and core workplace-related behaviors. Basing assumptions on social exchange theory, the purpose of this meta-analytic review (k = 166; N = 49,350) is (a) to test the relationship of psychopathy with task performance, organizational citizenship behavior, and counterproductive work behavior, (b) to differentiate the relationships of primary versus secondary psychopathy with these behaviors, and (c) to test for relevant moderating influence

'Don't lose it on the bus!': Casting the normative biosexual citizen in early Scottish pre-exposure prophylaxis provision.

The introduction of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) raises important questions around how new biotechnologies are negotiated within contemporary settings and how they can shape the moral governance of biocitizens, or as we explore, biosexual citizens. This article draws on qualitative interviews and focus groups to consider how the normative biosexual citizen was cast at the start of provision in Scotland by clinical and community practitioners. Our findings show how practitioners navigated ideas around who was deserving of support and access to PrEP in the context of limited resources, in

Recommendations for collecting and analysing migration-related determinants in public health research.

BACKGROUND: According to the definition of the German Federal Statistical Office, about every fourth person living in Germany has a so-called migration background (MB), i.e., the person or at least one of their parents was born without German citizenship. However, MB has been defined differently in many studies. Also, the MB summarises people in different living situations, making differentiated analysis in health science more difficult. This article formulates recommendations for the collection and analysis of migration-related, as well as social and structural, determinants of health. INDIC

Association of cumulative social risk and gestational diabetes mellitus in the US, 2007-2018.

AIMS: Little is known regarding the association of multiple social risk factors and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). METHODS: We analyzed the 2007-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys including 10,439 women aged ≥20 years (8 % with history of GDM). We created a cumulative social risk score (CSR) by adding scores assigned to each of the following: race/ethnicity, citizenship status and country of birth, education, and family income (score of 0 used as reference group). Using logistic regression, we assessed the associations of individual social risk factors (education, in

Where do young adults get information about STIs and HPV? Latent information-source profiles and preventive orientations in Italy.

Sexual health information practices are increasingly framed as individual responsibilities, yet they are enacted within unequal informational and institutional ecologies. Interpreting the findings through a sexual citizenship lens, this study examines where young adults in Italy obtain information about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and human papillomavirus (HPV), and how information-source profiles are associated with STI/HPV knowledge and prevention-related measures. We analyse a 2024 quota-based online survey of Italian residents aged 16-30 (N = 3105; post-stratification weighted),

Public value management in rural China through digital engagement, identity recognition and moral legitimacy.

This study investigates how public value is constructed in rural governance through the interplay of digital civic embeddedness, moral legitimacy, procedural inclusion, and eco-cultural identity salience. Drawing on Public Value Theory (PVT), Social Identity Theory (SIT), and Digital Citizenship Theory (DCT), the study develops and empirically tests a structural model using survey data from 412 rural residents in Henan Province, China. Results from PLS-SEM analysis reveal that while digital civic embeddedness does not directly enhance perceived public value, it significantly influences it thro

Legal status as a life course determinant of health: parent status, adjudication stages, and HIV knowledge among highlanders in Thailand.

BACKGROUND: Rising nativism and political volatility worldwide threaten to undermine hard-won achievements in human rights and public health. Risks are particularly acute for hundreds of millions of migrants, minorities, and Indigenous peoples, who face disproportionately high health burdens, including HIV/AIDS, and precarious legal status (LS). While LS is receiving increasing attention as a social determinant of health and HIV, understandings are still limited to select immigrant communities. Its effects on health among stateless communities, particularly in the Global South, remain largely
