Comparative evaluation of topical and intramuscular coenzyme Q10 application in non-surgical periodontal disease management: A randomized clinical study.

Periodontal disease remains challenging to manage because adjunctive antioxidant therapies are not well standardized forroute of administration or dosing relative to scaling and root planing (SRP). Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate SRP alone, SRP plus topical CoQ10 and SRP plus intrasulcular CoQ10 at 150 sites in 50 patients with chronic periodontitis over 4 weeks. Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Modified Sulcular Bleeding Index and Probing Pocket Depth were assessed at baseline and follow up in all three groups. All groups showed significant improvement, but Group 3 (intrasulcular CoQ10

Prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical study of split-body comparison of topical hydroquinone and hexylresorcinol for skin pigment appearance.

Dyspigmentation is a common cosmetic concern in dermatology. Currently, the first line topical medication in the United States is hydroquinone. Hydroquinone use is associated with potential safety concerns including cytotoxicity to melanocytes, systemic absorption, metabolism in distant organs, and production of potentially carcinogenic metabolites. Hexylresorcinol is an ingredient that has been used in food preservation and as antiseptic has been shown to inhibit tyrosinase in vitro and has been studied as a novel skin-lightening agent. To perform a double-blind randomized split-body investig

Formulation of tretinoin-loaded topical proniosomes for treatment of acne: in-vitro characterization, skin irritation test and comparative clinical study.

Tretinoin (TRT) is a widely used retinoid for the topical treatment of acne, photo-aged skin, psoriasis and skin cancer which makes it a good candidate for topical formulation. Yet side effects, like redness, swelling, peeling, blistering and, erythema, in addition to its high lipophilicity make this challenging. Therefore, the aim of this study was the development of TRT-loaded proniosomes to improve the drug efficacy and to increase user acceptability and compliance by reducing its side effects. Nine formulae were prepared according to 3(2) factorial design and were evaluated for their morph

The effect of topical application of the platelet-activating factor-antagonist, Ro 24-0238, in psoriasis vulgaris--a clinical and immunohistochemical study.

Platelet-activating factor (PAF) is considered to be one of the most potent lipid mediators in allergic and inflammatory reactions. Suggestions that PAF is produced by cutaneous cells, and cells infiltrating the skin from the blood, have been reported. PAF has been identified in allergic cutaneous reactions and also in psoriatic lesions. The biological activity of PAF is thought to be mediated by cell membrane receptors. Studies revealed that PAF-antagonists can be active in animal models of cutaneous inflammation. In humans PAF-antagonists showed minimal therapeutic improvement in studies of

A New Topical Candidate in Acne Treatment: Characterization of the Meclozine Hydrochloride as an Anti-Inflammatory Compound from In Vitro to a Preliminary Clinical Study.

Acne is a chronic inflammatory multifactorial disease involving the anaerobic bacterium Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes). Current acne treatments are associated with adverse effects, limiting treatment compliance and use. We showed that meclozine, an anti-histaminic H1 compound, has anti-inflammatory properties. In Vitro, meclozine reduced the production of CXCL8/IL-8 and IL-1β mRNA and protein by C. acnes-stimulated human keratinocytes and monocytes. No cell toxicity was observed at the IC50. Meclozine prevented the phosphorylation of ERK and JNK. In Vivo, 1% meclozine gel significantly decreas

A Comparison of Clinical Efficiency of Photodynamic Therapy and Topical Corticosteroid in Treatment of Oral Lichen Planus: A Split-Mouth Randomised Controlled Study.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) to steroid therapy in the treatment of oral lichen planus (OLP). Due to the lack of commercially available drug carriers, innovative proprietary solutions were used for both the photosensitiser and the steroid carrier-in the first case to shorten and in the second to extend the contact of the active substance with the mucosa. METHODS: A prospective, randomised, single-blind, 12-week full contralateral split-mouth clinical trial of 30 patients with bilateral oral lichen planus was conducted. The pre
