Quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in head and neck cancer: A systematic comparison of different modelling approaches.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) describes tissue microvasculature and has prognostic and predictive potential in radiotherapy for head and neck cancer (HNC). However, lack in standardization of DCE-MRI hinders comparison of studies and clinical implementation. This study investigated the accuracy and robustness of the population arterial input function (AIF), correlations between pharmacokinetic parameters and their association to T stage and human papillomavirus (HPV) status for HNC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: DCE-MRI was acquired for 44 HNC

Vertebral fractures in multiple myeloma: first results of assessment of fracture risk using dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

The objective of this study was to evaluate dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (d-MRI) as a prognostic indicator of lumbar vertebral fractures in patients with multiple myeloma. d-MRI of the lumbar spine was performed in ten patients with multiple myeloma. A fast gradient echo sequence (turbo fast low-angle shot, two-dimensional) was used, together with controlled bolus injection of gadolinium diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (Gd-DTPA). The maximum increase in signal intensity [amplitude (A),arbitrary units (a.u.)] was assessed for each lumbar vertebra. About half a year la

Detecting clinically significant prostate cancer with a distributed parameter model based on quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a common malignancy with heterogeneous biological behavior, and accurate differentiation between clinically significant (csPCa) and clinically insignificant PCa (ciPCa) is critical for guiding treatment decisions. Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) has become an essential tool for PCa detection; however, the role of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) remains limited in the current Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) guidelines due to its largely qualitative nature. Quantitative analysis of DCE-MRI through use of advanc

Effect of dopamine agonists on prolactinomas and normal pituitary assessed by dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI).

CONTEXT: Dopamine agonists (DA) may act on prolactinoma size and secretion through additional effects on adenoma vascularity that can be visualized using dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI). OBJECTIVE: We hypothesized that DAs may exert their effect through a change in tumour functional vascularity leading to a reduction of prolactin (PRL) levels and tumour size. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: To investigate this, 23 subjects were studied comprising five with macroprolactinomas, 11 with microprolactinomas, seven with non-lesion hyperprolactinemia and 15 normal volunteers (i

A prospective study comparing ultrasound, nuclear scintigraphy and dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in the evaluation of hydronephrosis.

PURPOSE: A combination of nuclear medicine, ultrasound and voiding cystourethrography is typically used to investigate hydronephrosis in children. A major problem is the lack of an accepted gold standard to assess obstruction. In some cases the anatomy is unclear. By combining anatomical and functional information in one study, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the potential of providing superior information regarding hydronephrosis. We evaluate the role of dynamic enhanced MRI and compare it to other imaging modalities in the investigation of pediatric hydronephrosis. MATERIALS AND METHOD

Magnetic resonance imaging in the assessment of pancreatic cancer with quantitative parameter extraction by means of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion kurtosis imaging and intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging.

BACKGROUND: Despite great technical advances in imaging, such as multidetector computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), diagnosing pancreatic solid lesions correctly remains challenging, due to overlapping imaging features with benign lesions. We wanted to evaluate functional MRI to differentiate pancreatic tumors, peritumoral inflammatory tissue, and normal pancreatic parenchyma by means of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI)-, diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI)-, and intravoxel incoherent motion model (IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI)-derived parameters. [The role of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of torsion of the testicular appendix : a case report].

A 7-year-old male presented to our hospital with pain and swelling in the right scrotum for 9 days. On physical examination a swollen right scrotum was noted and right side cremasteric reflex disappeared. Ultrasound examination showed enlarged right testis and epididymis. Subsequent dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a 7 mm area of high signal intensity anterior to the right testis on coronal imaging of T2-weighted. Subtraction MRI revealed testicular perfusion and a nonenhanced mass was also identified anterior to the right testis. These findings indicated a dia

Intrathecal Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Cerebrospinal Fluid Dynamics and Glymphatic Enhancement in Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.

Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a neurodegenerative disease, characterized by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow disturbance. Today, the only available treatment is CSF diversion surgery (shunt surgery). While traditional imaging biomarkers typically assess CSF space anatomy, recently introduced imaging biomarkers of CSF dynamics and glymphatic enhancement, provide imaging of CSF dynamics and thereby more specifically reveal elements of the underlying pathophysiology. The biomarkers address CSF ventricular reflux grade as well as glymphatic enhancement and derive from intratheca
