Comparison of ecchymosis rates with measurement of automated and manual blood pressures in patients receiving eptifibatide therapy.

BACKGROUND AND RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Clinicians often avoid the use of automated blood pressure (BP) devices following coronary interventional procedures in the belief that bleeding into the tissue at the cuff site occurs more often with an automated BP device. Research on the incidence of ecchymosis at the BP cuff site with automated and manual BP measurement devices is limited and involved patients on thrombolytic therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine if the type of BP measurement device (automated or manual) affects the incidence of ecchymosis in patients on eptifibatide therapy

Abdominal migraine associated with ecchymosis of the legs and buttocks: does the symptom imply an unknown mechanism of migraine?

Abdominal migraine is one subcategory of migraine-related syndromes. Migraine is sometimes associated with facial ecchymosis, which may be accounted for by trigeminovascular activation. However, the precise mechanism of this concurrence remains unknown. Here, we describe a 9-year-old girl, who presented ecchymosis of the legs and buttock associated with recurrent, severe, non-localized midline abdominal pain. The patient has positive family history of migraine. Investigations during an attack revealed no obvious abnormalities. According to the International Classification of Headache Disorders

Effect of Compression Dressing After Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty on Edema, Ecchymosis, Pain, and Ocular Surface Irritation.

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of a compression dressing (CD) on edema, ecchymosis, aesthetic outcome, pain, and ocular surface irritation after upper eyelid blepharoplasty. METHODS: We conducted a case-control study. Bilateral blepharoplasty was performed on both upper eyelids at the same time in patients with dermatochalasis. One side was randomized for CD. Edema and ecchymosis were scored at a 4-point rating scale by a blinded observer 1 day (D1), 1 week (D7), and 8 weeks (D56) after surgery; the same for scar formation regarding redness and bulging at D7 and D56. Aesthetic outcome was

Periorbital Ecchymosis Post Closed Rhinoplasty: Natural History, Risk Factors, and Validation of a New Scoring System.

UNLABELLED: Postrhinoplasty periorbital ecchymosis is an inevitable side effect contributing to patients' psychological aspect and early postoperative morbidity. Efforts are constantly being made to reduce ecchymosis using different methods with varying success. To evaluate treatment response, it is mandatory to have a reliable score. Several studies suggest other scoring systems, but none has been postrhinoplasty-specific, validated, and accepted. This study aimed to demonstrate the natural history of postrhinoplasty ecchymosis, find potential risk factors for worsening patterns, and suggest

Intra-operative nasal compression after lateral osteotomy to minimize post-operative Peri-orbital ecchymosis and edema.

INTRODUCTION: Post-operative periorbital ecchymosis and edema following rhinoplasty is a well-known sequela of surgery. Unfortunately, this can be a source of distress for patients, resulting in a longer post-operative recovery time and a delayed return to work. Trauma caused by lateral osteotomies is likely the most significant cause of periorbital edema and ecchymosis in rhinoplasty. There have been various strategies proposed to minimize swelling and ecchymosis with varying success rates and accompanied risks. Intraoperative nasal compression is one potential strategy that may reduce post-o

Route Matters: Topically Applied vs Locally Injected Tranexamic Acid for the Reduction of Postrhinoplasty Edema and Ecchymosis.

BACKGROUND: Tranexamic acid (TXA) is widely used to reduce postoperative edema and ecchymosis; however, evidence comparing topically applied and locally injected routes following rhinoplasty remains limited and inconsistent. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of topically applied vs locally injected TXA in reducing periorbital edema and ecchymosis after primary rhinoplasty and to explore whether the route of administration influences clinical outcomes. METHODS: In this triple-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial, 75 patients undergoing primary open rhinopla

Postoperative Periorbital Edema and Ecchymosis After External Lateral Osteotomy "Comparing Conventional Osteotome and Piezo Scalpel in Rhinoplasty".

The piezo surgery was reported to cause minimal trauma to the soft tissue. The aim of this study was to compare the periorbital edema and ecchymosis after transcutaneous lateral osteotomy in rhinoplasty using 2-mm osteotome versus Piezo scalpel respectively. In a randomized clinical trial and split-mouth-design, we performed primary rhinoplasty in 15 patients (7 men, 8 women; age 18-35 years, mean age 26.6 ± 5.7 years). Transcutaneous lateral osteotomy was performed using a 2-mm osteotome on the one side and a piezo scalpel on the opposite side. We took digital photographs of the face on 1, 3,

A prospective cohort study develops and validates a machine learning model for predicting ecchymosis after total knee arthroplasty.

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a standard procedure for end-stage knee diseases, yet perioperative bleeding and its complications, such as ecchymosis, remain significant challenges. Predicting ecchymosis can guide personalized perioperative blood management, enhancing patient recovery and reducing the socioeconomic burden. In this prospective study (June 2023-March 2024), 416 TKA patients were split into ecchymosis (n = 135) and non-ecchymosis (n = 281) groups. The first seven months' data (312 patients) were used for training, and the next three months' (104 patients) for validation. Featur
