Rosai-Dorfman-Destombes (sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy) disease is an uncommon disease characterized by benign proliferation of histiocytes, with painless lymph node enlargement and frequent extranodal disease. Orbital involvement occurs in 9-11% of cases. However, isolated Rosai-Dorfman-Destombes disease of the lacrimal gland without any systemic involvement is very rare with only three case reports. We describe here one such young male patient with unilateral lacrimal gland swelling. Excision biopsy revealed almost complete replacement of the lacrimal gland by lymphocytes,

The patient is a one-year-old girl referred to the hospital for an enlarged head after a 1.5-month history of two falls, followed by polydipsia, polyuria, and slow movement and growth. Three subsequent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations of the brain revealed nodular lesions disseminated in the brain parenchyma and intraventricular ependyma, resulting in obstructive hydrocephalus. Thoracic and abdominopelvic sonography showed no additional lesions. The preliminary diagnosis was a primary or metastatic neoplasm or infection. A biopsy of a lesion in the right frontal lobe was taken. Th

A 53-year-old male presented with dropping of the right eyelid associated with decreased visual acuity for 4 months. He also complained of vertical diplopia especially when looking down. Ophthalmological examination revealed right blepharospasm associated with right hypertropia. There was palpable mass at the inferomedial aspect of the right eye. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed abnormal signal intensity in the right orbit inferior aspect occupying the orbital floor and measured 2.7 cm × 2.5 cm × 1.2 cm and showed enhancement on the postcontrast study. The patient underwent complete excisio

A case of extranodal sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (ENSHML; Rosai-Dorfman disease) is reported. The patient presented with a history of intracranial tumour and exophthalmus. Clinical examination found a large mass in the left orbit and paranasal sinuses. Excisional biopsy showed a dense fibrous tissue with an infiltrate rich in macrophages. Further evaluation revealed a retroperitoneal mass with consecutive ureteral stenosis. Further histological and immunohistochemical investigation of the orbital mass, now in suspicion of a systemic disease showed an infiltrate of S-100-po

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare idiopathic histoproliferative disease affecting the systemic lymph nodes. Although an extranodal lesion has also been recognized, central nervous system involvement is extremely rare. To the authors' knowledge, only 20 cases of intracranial lesions have been reported previously. Intracranial RDD is clinically and radiologically difficult to distinguish from meningioma, and histological examination is essential for a definitive diagnosis. The authors treated a large frontal lobe tumor associated with multiple meningeal nodules in a 67-year-old patient prese

INTRODUCTION: Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare, benign histiocytic disorder that can present as isolated cutaneous RDD (CRDD), often mimicking other dermatologic conditions and complicating diagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report two cases of CRDD: one with palms and soles involvement, and another as an exophytic facial mass, initially misdiagnosed and unsuccessfully treated. Dermoscopy revealed distinctive features, including yellow ovoid structures, linear vessels, and cotton-like white globules. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses confirmed CRDD with histiocytic infiltr

Rosai-Dorfman sinusal histiocytosis is a benign histiocytic disorder presenting as large lymphadenopathies, mostly in the cervical area. Visceral involvement is not unusual. The diagnosis is based on histologic findings, showing intrasinusoidal histiocytic infiltration with pathognomonic emperipolesis features. Histiocytes display a normal activated phenotype. It probably represents a heterogeneous group of diseases with some common histopathologic findings. An association with immunologic abnormalities or auto-immune diseases, mostly auto-immunes cytopenias is possible. This is a criterion of

The diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is based on a combination of biochemical, immunological and histological features and exclusion of other causes of liver disease. Typical histological features include a chronic hepatitis pattern of injury with portal inflammation and interface activity, predominance of plasma cells in the portal infiltrate, emperipolesis, and hepatocellular rosette formation. Centrilobular injury with prominent hepatocellular necrosis and mononuclear inflammation is now recognised in the histological spectrum of AIH and may represent an early stage of the disease. L

A 63-year-old woman presented with jaundice and epigastric pain for 2 weeks. Physical examination revealed marked jaundice, and palpable gallbladder with right upper quadrant tenderness. Liver function test was remarkable for hepatocellular injury pattern. Antinuclear antibody and anti-smooth muscle antibody were positive with high titre and serum IgG was elevated more than upper normal range. Ultrasound and CT scan demonstrated mildly diffuse periportal oedema of liver parenchyma and markedly diffuse gallbladder wall thickening up to 2 cm. Liver histology showed focal interface hepatitis with

Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (SHML) also called as Rosai Dorfman disease is a rare histiocytic proliferative disorder of unknown etiology. Histological features currently define it. Persistent painless lymphadenopathy due to expansion of sinuses infiltrated with benign histiocytes and plasma cells and emperipolesis are the characteristic features of SHML. Our study includes seven cases (5 nodal and 2 extranodal) of SHML over a 5-year period whose slides and blocks were reviewed. IHC was performed on the main lesion, from a panel of S100, CD68, LCA, CD20, CD3, CD30, CD43, bc

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare, benign histiocytic disorder that typically presents with bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy. Pediatric cases with isolated, unilateral involvement are uncommon and may pose diagnostic challenges. We report the case of an 11-year-old boy presenting with isolated, unilateral cervical lymphadenopathy without systemic symptoms. Biological and radiological investigations were nonspecific. Histopathological examination of the excised lymph node revealed characteristic large histiocytes with emperipolesis and an immunohistochemical profile consistent with RDD (C

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is an uncommon histiocytic disease of unknown etiology. It typically presents as massive lymphadenopathy with a predilection for the cervical lymph nodes of children and young adults. However, extranodal involvement is not uncommon and may cause confusion with other neoplasms or reactive disease. We describe here a unique case of extranodal RDD manifesting as a pericardial mass in a 69-year-old man. The lesion was detected by computed tomography during a periodic examination of the chest. Subsequently positron emission tomography scan showed mild increase of flurode

Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy known as Rosai-Dorfman disease is characterized by painless bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy. Extranodal manifestations are uncommon and spinal involvement is rare. A 15-year-old man presented with intermittent midthoracic back pain only. He had no specific findings on neurologic examinations, hematologic and biochemical laboratory tests. Radiological examination of thoracic spine revealed collapse of T6 vertebrae with thoracic kyphosis and osteolytic lesion of T12 vertebra body. He underwent a removal of bone tumor, anterior reconstruction wi

Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (SHML), also known as Rosai-Dorfman disease, is a rare self-limiting disorder of histiocytes with unknown etiology. Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy is most common in children and young adults and is characterized by painless lymphadenopathy. Histologically there is a proliferation of sinus histiocytes with lymphophagocytosis or emperipolesis. On rare occasions, SHML has been associated with lymphoma, usually involving different anatomic sites and developing at different times. We report a case of concomitant SHML and nodal margi

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) with central nervous system (CNS) involvement poses substantial diagnostic challenges due to its propensity to mimic meningiomas or inflammatory pathologies. We present a series of three RDD cases with CNS involvement to evaluate their clinical, radiological, and histopathological features. The series includes a 30-year-old female with pachymeningitis and spinal involvement; a 66-year-old male with a skull base lesion; and a 45-year-old male presenting with trigeminal neuralgia secondary to a cavernous sinus lesion. In all instances, definitive diagnosis was achieve

BACKGROUND: Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), also known as sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy, is a rare non-Langerhans cell reactive histiocytic disorder that rarely occurs in the central nervous system (CNS). Extranodal RDD most frequently involves the skin, upper respiratory tract, soft tissue, gastrointestinal tracts, bones, breast, and CNS.
CASE DESCRIPTION: RDD of the CNS infiltrates most commonly the dura of the sella, cavernous sinus, and the periclival regions. It is usually clinically and radiologically mistaken for meningioma because of its focal dural-based aspect. RDD i

BACKGROUND: We report a case of Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) presenting as an oropharyngeal mass, and we provide a detailed discussion of this rare clinical entity.
METHODS: An initial biopsy, described as being consistent with lymphoma, was reviewed at a second outside institution and was thought to be reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. The patient then presented to our institution for a second opinion. Direct laryngoscopy revealed a firm 1- to 2-cm lesion involving the left soft palate and superior tonsillar pillar.
RESULTS: The diagnosis of RDD was confirmed with immunohistochemical staining o

ALK-positive histiocytosis is a recently described rare histiocytic proliferative disorder of early infancy. When infants present with anemia, thrombocytopenia, and hepatosplenomegaly, this entity should be included in the differential diagnosis along with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, metabolic/storage diseases, hematopoietic malignancies, and autoimmune thrombocytopenia. We report 2 new cases of ALK-positive histiocytosis, one with kidney involvement and the other with extensive bone marrow involvement in addition to an overt liver disease. Renal involvement by ALK-positive histiocytos

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) rarely involves the trachea, and active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) has not been reported with tracheal RDD. A 35-year-old woman presented with progressive cough, wheezing, and shortness of breath for 1 month. Chest CT revealed a tracheal mass causing > 90% airway narrowing and left lung nodules suggestive of TB. Emergency bronchoscopic resection using high-frequency electrocautery relieved the obstruction. Histopathology showed emperipolesis and immunohistochemistry was consistent with RDD. Bronchial aspirate was positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex by c
