We determined the prevalence of hemorrhage within 1 disc diameter of the optic nerve head by masked examination of stereoscopic color and red-free fundus photographs in a multilayer study of 1123 patients. At the first (baseline) examination, disc hemorrhages were present in none of the normal subjects (0 of 661), 0.44% (6/1377) of "glaucoma suspect" subjects, and 2.44% (3/123) of glaucomatous eyes. Disc hemorrhage prevalence in glaucomatous eyes was significantly higher than in normal or glaucoma suspect eyes. Glaucoma suspect eyes with disc hemorrhage, compared with matched suspect eyes with

Terson syndrome was originally used to describe a vitreous hemorrhage arising from aneurysmal subrarachnoid hemorrhage. Terson syndrome can be caused by intracranial hemorrhage, subdural or epidural hematoma and severe brain injury but is extremely rare in intraventricular hemorrhage associated with moyamoya disease. A 41-year-old man presented with left visual disturbance. He had a history of intraventicular hemorrhage associated with moyamoya disease three months prior to admission. At that time he was in comatose mentality. Ophthalmologic examination at our hospital detected a vitreous hemo

PURPOSE: To describe a patient with Osler-Rendu-Weber syndrome who developed a nonsimultaneous intraoperative choroidal hemorrhage in each eye.
METHOD: Interventional case report. A 65-year-old Caucasian woman with Osler-Rendu-Weber syndrome developed a choroidal hemorrhage in the left eye during vitrectomy for a complicated retinal detachment with a poor visual outcome. Fifteen years later, she developed a macula on retinal detachment in the right eye, which also had a dense cataract. Immediately after uncomplicated phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation, under monitored anest

Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) is a common retinal vascular disorder typically characterized by distinct findings on fundus examination and optical coherence tomography (OCT). An unusual and challenging presentation involves a full-thickness macular hemorrhage extending from the internal limiting membrane (ILM) to the subretinal space. Here, we present the case of a 52-year-old male with type 2 diabetes mellitus who experienced sudden vision loss in the right eye and progressive vision decline in the left eye. Fundus examination revealed superotemporal BRVO in the right eye and old infer

Eighty-five eyes with severe vitreous hemorrhage on initial visit were followed for three to ten years without treatment. A comparison of initial and final visual acuities showed vision to have worsened in 36 eyes (42%), improved in 25 eyes (30%) and remained unchanged in 24 eyes (28%). Vision in 60 eyes was 5/200 or worse when last examined. Of 42 eyes followed three to six years (group 1), the low vision in 24 eyes (57%) was due to vitreous hemorrhage, while of 18 eyes that were followed seven to ten years (group 2), six (33%) had low vision due to vitreous hemorrhage. Terson's Syndrome is represented by a vitreous, retrohyaloid, retinal, or subretinal hemorrhage occurring consequent to an acute intracranial hemorrhage or elevated intracranial pressure. The outcome may include a complete clearing of the blood and the restoration of VA or persistent hemorrhage. This report presents the case of a 43-year-old woman who underwent bilateral surgery for a persistent vitreous hemorrhage and a hematoma underneath the internal limiting membrane in the left eye. The event followed shortly after a subarachnoid hemorrhage due to the rupture of a posterior communicating

PURPOSE: We studied the incidence of vitreous hemorrhage in a well-defined population to determine the underlying causes of such hemorrhages.
METHODS: We prospectively studied all eyes with dense spontaneous first-time vitreous hemorrhage during a 2 1/2-year period in the greater Göteborg area (542,000 inhabitants). Follow-up time was one year.
RESULTS: Ninety-four patients (95 eyes) were included, corresponding to a yearly incidence of seven cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Because of demographic factors and the organization of Swedish ophthalmologic care, we believe that this is close to the

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous Expulsive Suprachoroidal Hemorrhage (SESCH) is an extremely rare phenomenon that leads to atraumatic spontaneous globe rupture. Only a handful of SESCH cases have been reported worldwide, primarily in developing countries. Risk factors associated with SESCH include uncontrolled hypertension, previous eye surgery, glaucoma, atherosclerosis, advanced age, and corneal damage.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of expulsive suprachoroidal hemorrhage in a ninety-seven-year-old female. The patient presented to the emergency department with painful bleeding from her right eye. She

Intrapapillary hemorrhage with adjacent peripapillary subretinal hemorrhage (IHAPSH), commonly observed in myopic eyes with tilted optic discs, typically resolves without treatment. Although IHAPSH cases have been rarely reported, no prior studies have assessed laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) in this context. We report a case of IHAPSH evaluated using LSFG. A 54-year-old woman presented with floater symptoms in her right eye upon awakening. She had no history of trauma or medication use. Her best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 1.2 in both eyes. A 14 year-old Caucasian boy with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) presented with blurred vision in his left eye. Visual acuity was 20/20, right eye, and 20/80, left eye, and funduscopy revealed bilateral papilledema. In addition, there was peripapillary choroidal neovascular membrane (PPCNVM) in the left eye. Oral acetazolamide improved the symptoms and signs of IIH, but seven weeks later, acuity remained 20/80, left eye, with an increase in subretinal hemorrhage. Two weeks following an intravitreal injection of bevacizumab, visual acuity on the left had improved to 20/30 with resolu
