Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a distinct and a rare spindle cell neoplasm, commonly known to occur in the pleura and other serosal sites. With the advent of immunohistochemistry, varied extraserosal sites are being recognized as common locations for this rare tumor. We report a case of SFT in a 50-year-old male patient who presented with multiple swellings in the eyelid, with emphasis on the cytological features.

INTRODUCTION: Paraneoplastic clinical signs are characterized by a large and heterogeneous variety of manifestations due to several possible underlying neoplasms. Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is a particular paraneoplastic variety that usually primarily affects the dermic and/or oral mucosa and is characterized by a high rate of mortality (90%). Therefore, it is important to recognize its possible signs early. This report describes a case of ocular paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) presenting with recalcitrant eyelid ulceration and hyperemic conjunctivitis caused by an undiagnosed prostate canc

Primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma (PCMC) is a rare, low-grade malignant neoplasm of the sweat gland, whose history has been controversial regarding eccrine versus apocrine origin. This case report describes a 53-year-old male who presented to the University of Florida, Gainesville, ophthalmology clinic and was referred to the oculoplastics service with a painless, subcentimeter mass on the lateral right upper eyelid including the canthus, consistent with recurrent primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma of the eyelid. Four years prior, the patient had undergone excisional biopsy of the lesion

BACKGROUND: Lipoid proteinosis (LP), or Urbach-Wiethe disease, is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by pathogenic variants in ECM1. Early-onset hoarseness and moniliform blepharosis are characteristic, but diagnosis may be delayed when early airway findings are nonspecific or the mucocutaneous features are not considered together.
CASE SUMMARY: A 13-year-old male presented with hoarseness since infancy and a 2-year history of progressive bilateral upper-eyelid margin papules. Flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscopy at ages 1 and 2 years had been interpreted as congenital laryngomalacia. Re

BACKGROUND Eyelid tumors belong to a diverse group of neoplasms ranging from benign lesions to malignant tumors. Poromas are common, benign, mostly unpigmented tumors of the epidermal sweat duct unit, that usually grow slowly and occur in elderly people on the palms and soles. In most poroma cases some gene fusions were detected, which were caused by chromosomal aberrations. CASE REPORT We report the atypical case of a 30-year-old female patient suffering for more than 15 years from a solitary, polypoid, pigmented formation with a focal tuberous surface on the left lower eyelid. The lesion was

CASE REPORT: A 53-year old woman presented a tuberous sclerosis complex (Bourneville's disease) characterised by facial cutaneous angiofibromas, periungual fibromas and cutaneous leaf-shaped macules in the thorax. She also presented two neoplasms in the left lower eyelid which were histopathologically diagnosed as angiofibromas. There were no other ophthalmologic or systemic findings.
DISCUSSION: Tuberous sclerosis complex is an autosomical dominant neurocutaneous phakomatosis in which up to 80% of cases represent new mutations, characterized by mental retardation, epilepsy and angiofibromas.

Oncocytoma of the eyelid is a rare neoplasm. Oncocytoma associated with an ocular surface squamous neoplasm, namely conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia, is very hard to find in the literature. Herein we report a case of a 53-year-old male who presented with a swelling in the right lower lid over the last 6 years, along with a growth in the conjunctiva of the same eye for the last 2 years and encroaching upon the cornea for the last 4 months. Excision biopsy of the lower lid mass showed histopathological features consistent with oncocytoma. The conjunctival tissue revealed conjunctival intra

Pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland is a benign epithelial neoplasm and can rarely undergo cystic degeneration, mimicking other conditions with similar radiological findings. It commonly presents as a slow growing, painless mass in the outer upper eyelid, characterised by exophthalmos, ptosis, diplopia and reduced ocular movements. Here, we present one such case of a male in his mid-30s presenting with a painless, progressive fullness in the left upper eyelid with mild proptosis and restricted ocular movements which was initially suspected to be due to an underlying dermoid cyst owing to

Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma, a rare, low-grade neoplasm with predilection for the eyelids, has been posited as a precursor to invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma. Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma and its concurrence with mucinous adenocarcinoma have received little attention in the ophthalmic literature. The combination of the 2 histologic patterns parallels endocrine ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast and its transition to Type B invasive mucinous carcinoma. The authors describe a 59-year-old man who developed a tumor of the right upper eyelid showing endoc

A total of 243 neoplasms were recorded in a survey of all the feline neoplasms which are reported in the registration files of the Veterinary Research Institute, Onderstepoort, Republic of South Africa, covering a 40-year period from 1935 to 1974. The tissues most commonly neoplastic were the skin, followed by the lymphoid tissue, the digestive tract and the genital system, which together accounted for 76,6% of the total tumours. Squamous cell carcinomas, the commonest type of tumour, accounted for 65 (26,7%) of the 243 neoplasms, followed by lymphosarcomas with 50 (20,5%). The majority of squ

Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid, an extremely rare neoplasm, can resemble blepharitis, conjunctivitis, or chalazion, as in the case presented here. A biopsy specimen should be examined if these conditions fail to respond to therapy, especially if the lesion is unilateral. The tumor can be multifocal, and pagetoid proliferation is common. Therefore, recurrences are common after conservative surgery, even if frozen sections are obtained from the margins. Orbital exenteration may be necessary to prevent metastasis.

Sebaceous carcinoma, an uncommon malignant neoplasm, often arises de novo from periocular sebaceous glands. Commonly manifesting as diffuse eyelid thickening, sebaceous carcinoma can mimic other inflammatory processes such as persistent chalazion or blepharitis. Delayed diagnosis often complicates the disease course due to its indolent presentation. Described is a rare case of sebaceous carcinoma entirely confined to the conjunctival epithelium of the upper eyelid. An 80-year-old female presented for evaluation of bothersome "cysts" under her left upper lid as well as blurry vision in her left

BACKGROUND: Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is a rare genodermatosis considered a subtype of hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer and traditionally associated with mutations in the mismatch repair genes.
OBJECTIVE: We describe a 51-year-old male with primary manifestations of recurrent sebaceous adenoma of the upper eyelid, a positive cancer family history, and metachronous occurrence of colorectal cancer.
METHOD: The diagnosis of MTS was established based on the clinical course, family history, and histopathologic findings, although further immunohistologic testing revealed the absence of MS

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common ocular and periocular neoplasm of horses, typically arising from the limbus, third eyelid mucosa or mucocutaneous junctions of the upper and lower eyelids. Tumours are locally invasive, prone to recurrence and may rarely metastasize. Histological evaluation is required for definitive diagnosis and atypical SCC subtypes may be diagnostically challenging. Here we describe a clear cell SCC in the third eyelid of a 16-year-old female Quarter Horse. The red and invasive mass was surgically excised for histological evaluation. The lesion consisted of

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical spectrum and management outcomes of ocular rhinosporidiosis.
METHODS: All histopathologically diagnosed cases of ocular rhinosporidiosis between January 2000 and December 2016 were included in the study. The lesions were classified based on the site of involvement, namely conjunctiva, lacrimal sac, eyelid, and orbit. The frequency and percentages for each of the lesions and the different treatment modalities were noted and calculated. Any recurrence and its subsequent management were also noted.
RESULTS: A total of 34 patients were included with a male-to-fe

Sebaceous gland carcinoma (SGC) of the eyelid is a highly malignant neoplasm that arises from the meibomian glands, glands of Zeis, and sebaceous glands of the skin. The characteristics of this disease are high recurrence rate, significant metastatic potential, and notable mortality rate, which are quite different from basal cell carcinoma (BCC). We report the case of a 37-year-old woman with the history of left lower eyelid BCC (diagnosed 9 years ago), who had left parotid lymph nodes metastases and local recurrence twice. The chief complaint during visit was a left upper eyelid swelling mass

BACKGROUND. Merkel cell tumor is an uncommon, aggressive neoplasm of the skin, now regarded as a neuroendocrine carcinoma. Eyelids are among the sites where it can develop, often mimicking a benign process. The purpose of this report is to describe two new cases and to discuss briefly the problems of diagnosis and treatment. METHODS. Two patients with Merkel cell tumor of the eyelids are described. In both cases, the original clinical diagnosis was chalazion. Progressive growth of the lesion identified it as a tumor some 2-7 months after it was first noticed. The patients were treated by surgi

We describe a case of a Merkel cell tumor of the eyelid that manifested as a recurrent chalazion. This tumor had the classic characteristics of a Merkel cell neoplasm by light microscopy. Electron microscopy showed dense-core neurosecretory granules and perinuclear microfilaments consistent with the diagnosis. Because a Merkel cell tumor may manifest as a chalazion, pathologic evaluation of all atypical chalazia is essential. Merkel cell tumors are malignant, and they must be treated aggressively to minimize recurrence or metastasis.

We present one case of Kaposi's sarcoma with conjunctive metastasis. The case describes a 71-years-old white male, who was admitted at hospital by malaise, slight pain on the left eyelid, nodular lesion of the left leg, and enlarge lymph nodes in inguinal regions. The conjunctive neoplasms are rare, and we most frequently can see the pigment ones followed by squamous epithelials and lymphomas. The primary Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) from conjunctiva is a rare tumor and it has increased by AIDS emergence and immunosuppression. The appearance of conjunctival metastasis from KS is a stand out event.
