A case of ampullary carcinoma associated with Gardner's syndrome is reported. Such an association is well described in the textbook, but its true incidence is very low. A review of the literature disclosed only 19 cases of Gardner's syndrome or familial polyposis coli in association with ampullary carcinoma, three of them in Japan. Whether or not ampullary carcinomas develop de novo or arise from adenoma still remains controversial. In order to ascertain the facts about their origin, more cases need to be collected and the early detection of ampullary lesions may be necessary.

Seven patients with Gardner's syndrome--familial polyposis, desmoid tumors, and extracolonic manifestations--underwent gallium 67 (67Ga) scintigraphy. Gallium 67 was taken up by all desmoid tumors and skull osteomas. Three patients were considered clinically disease-free and scintigraphy was normal. Gallium 67 scintigraphy may be a useful adjunct in the evaluation of patients with Gardner's syndrome.

Chromosome analysis of blood cells from a 42-year-old white male with mental retardation, colon carcinoma, horseshoe kidney, absence of left lobe of the liver, agenesis of the gallbladder, and possible Gardner syndrome revealed a constitutional marker chromosome due to del(5)(q13q15) or del(5)(q15q22). A polymorphic chromosome #22 with enlarged satellites was inherited from the father, who is phenotypically normal, and was probably unrelated to the congenital malformations. This is the first report of a Gardner syndrome patient with an interstitial deletion of 5q.

A family with Gardner's syndrome including one autopsy case is reported. A 22 year-old man had multiple polyposis of the colon and the small intestine, epidermal cysts, soft part tumor of the abdominal skin and osteomas in the calvarium and rib, and died of a carcinoma in the transverse colon and embolism of the brain. Histologically, all polyps were diagnosed as adenomatous polyp. The greater their diameter, the higher the tendency of atypism was observed. However, the polyps around the cancer were few, small, and with low atypism, and we could not obtain evidence showing direct transformatio

One hundred and ninety-six members of 15 families with Gardner's syndrome were investigated to determine the type of skin cyst that is part of this syndrome. These were shown to be epidermoid cysts and not pilar cysts or steatocystoma multiplex. They were solitary or multiple and seldom large and disfiguring. The skin cysts often occurred before the intestinal polyps were detectable. The presence of epidermoid cysts in children should be an indication for sigmoidoscopy when the child reaches the age of 14 years, and at 3-yearly intervals thereafter up to the age of 30 years, whether or not the

This case report discusses the diagnosis and treatment of a 14-year-8-month-old male patient genetically diagnosed with Gardner syndrome (GS), systematically reviewing the disease's epidemiology, clinical manifestations, imaging advances, and management strategies. The patient presented with a post-influenza A chest wall mass and had prior resections of abdominal/scalp masses. Colonoscopy revealed > 20 adenomatous polyps. Imaging demonstrated multiple craniofacial osteomas and epidermoid cysts. Genetic testing identified a pathogenic APC gene mutation (NM_000038.6:c.4669_4670del (p.Ile1557*) h

Gardner syndrome, a variant of familial adenomatous polyposis, is an autosomal dominant genetic disease characterized by the combined presence of multiple intestinal polyps and extraintestinal manifestations. The extraintestinal manifestations include multiple osteomas, connective tissue tumors, thyroid carcinomas, and hypertrophy of the pigmented epithelium of the retina. Osteoma is a benign neoplasm of bone tissue characterized by slow continuous growth that usually affects the long bones and cranial bones and is a major symptom for Gardner syndrome. The authors report the extraintestinal le

Here we report a case of intraosseous pilomatricoma in a patient with Gardner syndrome. A 17-year-old boy with a family history of Gardner syndrome and multiple cutaneous epidermoid cysts presented with pain in the region below the knee of the left leg. Plain radiographs displayed a well-circumscribed eccentric lesion of mixed radiolucent and radiopaque density within the diaphysis of the left proximal tibia. By magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, the lesion appeared as a low intensity lesion in T1-weighted images and a heterogeneous high intensity lesion with a low-signal radiation pattern on T2

Gardner syndrome (GS) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder that can present with craniomaxillofacial abnormalities. The identification of osteomas or craniomaxillofacial abnormalities can therefore serve as a marker of this condition, facilitating early referral and diagnosis. A 17-year-old female with GS was referred for the management of severe limited mouth opening, causing a major problem for routine endoscopy to monitor the gastrointestinal alterations of GS. Clinical and radiological evaluations showed multiple osteomas in the mandibular angle, condylar and coronoid regions bilaterally

Gardner-Diamond syndrome (GDS) is a psychological and dermatologic syndrome involving painful, ecchymotic, purpuric lesions that typically appear after a period of stress or minor trauma. This syndrome most commonly occurs in young women, though it has also been less commonly reported in men and adolescents. It is an uncommon condition and appropriate diagnosis is important to properly manage symptoms and minimize risks to patients. Here report a case of GDS presenting in a woman with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), which, to the best of our knowledge, is not a comorbid condition that

Gardner syndrome is known as a variant of familial adenomatous polyposis. This syndrome is characterized by multiple intestinal polyposes, osteomas, and epidermoid cysts. In addition, dental abnormalities include an increased frequency of multiple odontomas, as well as supernumerary and impacted teeth. The authors report the case of a 7-year-old male patient with Gardner syndrome. Radiographic findings revealed multiple osteomas in both sides of the maxilla, multiple diffuse enostoses in both jaws, and a complex odontoma in the left mandibular body. Two years later, multiple epidermoid cysts o

Nuchal fibromas, uncommon benign soft tissue tumors typically arising along the posterior neck, are often associated with Gardner syndrome (GS). These tumors have rarely been reported in association with scleroderma or as secondary to trauma and diabetes. Nuchal fibromas not associated with GS have been described predominantly in men aged 30 to 50. We report a 2-year-old African American girl with multiple nuchal fibromas along the posterior aspect of her neck and upper back. Retinal examination showed no signs of congenital hypertrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium, and genetic testing fo

Hepatoblastoma is a rare neoplasm of infants and children only recently documented in association with hereditary adenomatous polyposis of the colon [Kingston et al., 1983]. We report four children with hepatoblastoma from four unrelated families with Gardner syndrome (GS). One child, now 19 years old, survived after a resection of a hepatoblastoma in infancy and recently was found to have GS. He has an associated odontoma and pigmented ocular fundus lesions, both of which have been shown to be clinical markers of GS. Many individuals in these four GS families, both affected and at risk, have

Gardner's syndrome is a rare variant of the Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) in which affected individuals develop thousands of polyps within the gastrointestinal tract, with a 100 % risk of eventual malignant change. They also have a variety of extraintestinal abnormalities - various soft and hard tissues tumors like fibroma, osteoma, epidermoid cysts, sebaceous cysts on the scalp. Gardner's syndrome is an autosomal dominant disease, caused by mutations in APC ( adenomatous polyposis coli ) gene, which is located in chromosomal locus 5q21- q22. Firstly it has been described in 1953 by Gar

BACKGROUND: Gardner's syndrome can occasionally be complicated with intra-abdominal desmoid tumor. These tumors usually remain asymptomatic but can exhibit symptoms due to intestinal, vascular and ureteral compression and obstruction.
CASE PRESENTATION: A rare case of a 41-year-old male patient with Gardner's syndrome complicated with intra-abdominal desmoid tumor, which first presented as acute abdomen, is presented.
CONCLUSION: Extra-abdominal manifestations of Gardner's syndrome along with a palpable abdominal mass would raise suspicion for the presence of a desmoid tumor in the majority
