Academic partnerships with clinical nurse scientist mentors improve the Doctor of Nursing Practice student experience.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree has become firmly established as the terminal practice degree for advanced practice registered nurses in the United States. A defining component of the DNP curriculum requires students to implement a scholarly project that addresses a clinical problem and improves patient or system outcomes. This article describes the development and implementation of a structured clinical-academic partnership between a university-based DNP nurse anesthesia program and a pediatric health care organization in the southeastern United States. Central to this collaborati

An Integrative Review of Nurse-to-Nurse Incivility, Hostility, and Workplace Violence: A GPS for Nurse Leaders.

Bullying, lateral violence, and incivility are real phenomena in the nursing workplace and remain widespread across all care settings. The American Nurses Association recommends zero tolerance for any form of violence from any source and adopting evidence-based strategies to mitigate incivility and bullying. This integrative review examined the evidence regarding nurse-to-nurse incivility, bullying, and workplace violence for 4 nurse populations-student, new graduate, experienced, and academic faculty. Ganong and Cooper's review methodology structured the evidence synthesis. Twenty-one article

Faculty development programme grounded in an interprofessional collaboration: shaping teaching practices.

BACKGROUND: Effective teaching in health professions education is essential for preparing competent graduates and promoting safe, high-quality clinical care. Faculty development is a key strategy for enhancing teaching competencies and fostering change in educational practices. It is increasingly recognized that peer learning can contribute to the intended outcomes in faculty development. However, it remains unexplored how and in what ways interprofessional collaboration can further strengthen these programs. This study aims to examine how participation in interprofessional faculty development

Use of generative artificial intelligence and related technologies in clinical nursing education: A qualitative descriptive study of preceptor practices and perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping nursing education. Although many studies have examined AI use among nursing faculty and students, little is known about how clinical preceptors, who supervise students in practice settings, understand, perceive, and use these tools. As students and academic faculty increasingly integrate AI into teaching and learning, preceptors may not be adopting AI at the same pace or in the same ways, potentially creating inconsistencies between academic and clinical learning environments. AIM: To explore the shared professional b

Transformation and Excellence in an RN-to-BSN Program: A Ten-Year Journey.

An academic practice partnership was formed to develop a new RN-to-BSN program with a Unitary Caring Science (UCS) framework. The target population consisted of registered nurses in a large integrated health system in northern California who had not enrolled in one of the numerous RN-to-BSN options available. The nurses worked in a strong union environment with high salaries and low turnover. The primary return on investment sought by the practice partner was transformational cultural change. A mindfulness-based stress reduction course, offered in the first term, served as an experiential intr

"When, why, and at what cost?" Towards a trauma-informed pedagogy for learning about family violence in nurse education.

Learning how to recognise and respond to disclosures of family violence is a core component of nurse education, yet this learning often occurs in classrooms and clinical environments where some students and educators may themselves be survivors. Across nursing programs, pedagogical approaches often emphasise recognising and responding to patients affected by family violence yet give limited attention to the vulnerabilities of students and academic faculty or the potential for re-traumatisation when the topic arises in educational settings. Using a trauma-informed lens, we examine the ethical d

Pilot Clinical Instructor Intervention Raises Potential Clinical Faculty Confidence.

Lack of self-confidence in clinical teaching roles may discourage potential nurse faculty. Academic-clinical partners studied practicing nurses' responses to an intervention regarding teaching confidence and intent. Researchers used a one-group nonrandom pretest/posttest design with two subscales of the Clinical Nurse Educator Skill Acquisition Assessment tool and open-ended questions. Confidence increased with self-rated d = -1.08 (95% confidence interval [CI], -1.60, 0.54), and CNESSA at d = -1.47 (95% CI, -2.07, -0.85) and d = -2.01 (95% CI, -2.74, -1.27), respectively. Multiple methods findings from a systematic scoping review and qualitative interviews to inform LGBTQ+ affirming practices for nursing education.

BACKGROUND: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other gender and sexual minority people (LGBTQ+) individuals face dramatic inequities in health outcomes across the US and especially those residing in the Deep South due to pervasive LGBTQ+-related stigma and discrimination. A significant barrier repeatedly noted is the lack of clinicians trained to provide LGBTQ+-affirming care. Given that nurses play a critical role in patient care, research was needed to inform the development and piloting of LGBTQ+-specific curriculum for nursing faculty. METHODS: We conducted a multiple-methods study c

"But I Love the Colored": Unpacking White Emotional Defensiveness and Racial Harm in Nursing Academia.

This paper examines the discursive, emotional, and institutional dynamics embedded in the racially defensive statement, "But I love the Colored," voiced by a white nurse leader in academia. The phrase "the Colored," a US-specific designation rooted in Jim Crow-era segregation, is deliberately retained to surface how segregationist vocabulary can be effectively reactivated in contemporary academic settings. While seemingly well-intentioned, such language reveals the enduring mechanisms of whiteness in nursing academia, including benevolent racism, white emotionality, and the rhetorical deflecti
