The Effect of Recommended Mouthwashes on the Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets during the Covid-19 Pandemic: An In Vitro Study.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the impact of recommended mouthwashes (chlorhexidine, hydrogen peroxide, and povidone-iodine) used during the COVID-19 pandemic on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets. Materials and Methods: A total of 52 human premolar teeth were divided into 4 groups (N=13) consisting of no intervention (control group), 0.2% chlorhexidine, 1.5% hydrogen peroxide, and 0.2% povidone-iodine. Following immersion in the mouthwashes, orthodontic brackets were bonded to enamel surfaces. Then, the brackets were debonded using a universal testing machine. The s

Effect of Metal Primer Application on the Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets with Different Base Designs: An In Vitro Study.

Background/Objectives: Direct bonding of orthodontic brackets is standard in fixed-appliance therapy, but clinical success depends on achieving reliable bond strength without compromising enamel integrity during debonding. This in vitro study evaluated whether applying a metal primer to stainless-steel bracket bases affects shear bond strength (SBS) to enamel, and whether primer coverage and bracket-base design influence adhesive-remnant distribution and enamel integrity. Methods: A total of 132 extracted human maxillary premolars were randomly allocated to six groups (n = 22 each) defined by

The Biofilm Removal and Bactericidal Effect of an 810-nm High-Power Laser on an Orthodontic Bracket Surface: An In Vitro Study.

Objective: The present study aimed to analyze the biofilm removal and bactericidal effect of laser treatment alone and laser combined with ultrasonic scaling on orthodontic brackets. It also assessed whether the use of a laser can improve the efficiency of biofilm removal and bactericidal effect compared with traditional ultrasonic instrumentation. Background Data: Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) can lead to white spots and dental caries. Orthodontic brackets make teeth cleaning more difficult, and biofilms or bacteria on the surface of brackets worsen the oral environment, which may cause so

Gram-negative periodontal pathogens and bacterial endotoxin in metallic orthodontic brackets with or without an antimicrobial agent: an in-vivo study.

INTRODUCTION: High levels of periodontal pathogens can cause periodontal alterations. The presence of endotoxin might be responsible for the occurrence and progression of tissue inflammation and bone resorption. The aims of this study were to use checkerboard DNA-DNA hybridization and limulus amebocyte lysate assay to evaluate in metallic orthodontic brackets (1) the presence of 16 gram-negative periodontal pathogenic microorganisms of the orange complex and red complex +Treponema socranskii, (2) the amount of bacterial endotoxin, and (3) the efficacy of 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash

Differences between active and passive self-ligating brackets for orthodontic treatment : Systematic review and meta-analysis based on randomized clinical trials.

PURPOSE: In orthodontic treatment, the effects of differences in the design between active and passive self-ligating bracket (ASLB and PSLB, respectively) are usually neglected. This study investigated differences in effectiveness and efficiency between ASLBs and PSLBs. METHODS: To identify randomized, controlled clinical trials (RCTs) comparing ASLB with PSLB, the electronic databases Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Chinese Medical Journal Database were searched without langu

INTRODUCTION: To quantify the within-build agreement of linear dimensions and slot-wall angulation of custom orthodontic brackets fabricated by LCD-masked vat photopolymerization with their nominal computer-aided design (CAD) targets. METHODS: Fifty brackets were fabricated in one build by one operator using a zirconia nanohybrid photopolymer resin (Rodin Sculpture 2.0). Two examiners measured four outcomes using ImageJ and Geomagic Control X, with three repetitions per examiner and program. Only the 12-reading mean for each specimen and outcome was retained. Means, standard deviations (SDs),

Impact of Archwire Presence and Adhesive Removal Techniques on Enamel Crack Formation During Orthodontic Bracket Debonding: An In Vitro Study.

OBJECTIVES: Enamel cracks are a common complication following orthodontic bracket debonding and the removal of adhesives. This study investigated whether the presence of an archwire during debonding and the use of turbine (high-speed) versus angle (low-speed) tungsten carbide burs affect the number, length, or orientation of enamel cracks. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this in vitro experimental study, 64 extracted human premolars were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 16): with or without an archwire during debonding, and adhesive removal using either a high-speed (turbine) or a low-speed (an

Effect of two commercial energy drinks on enamel surface characteristics and orthodontic bracket shear bond strength: an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Energy drinks are acidic beverages with recognized erosive potential, but their effect on enamel characteristics relevant to orthodontic bonding remains incompletely described. This in vitro study evaluated the effect of continuous 24-hour immersion in two commercial energy drinks, Red Bull and Code Red, on enamel surface morphology, elemental profile, surface roughness, and orthodontic bracket shear bond strength (SBS). METHODS: Thirty sound human lower premolars were randomly allocated to three groups (n = 10): distilled water (control), Red Bull, and Code Red. After 24 h of imm

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of two remineralizing systems (Regenerate™ and Orthocare™) on the mineral recovery of demineralized enamel and on the shear bond strength (SBS) of brackets. METHODS: 180 bovine teeth were divided into four groups: 1)Intact enamel, 2)Demineralized enamel, 3)Demineralized enamel/Regenerate™, and 4)Demineralized enamel treated/Orthocare™. Groups 2 to 4 were demineralized. All samples were brushed three times daily; groups 1 and 2 without toothpaste, and groups 3 and 4 were treated with Regenerate™ or Orthocare™. Effects of Low-Level Laser Therapy and Bracket Systems on Root Resorption during Orthodontic Treatment: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

This study aimed to assess the outcomes of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) with the conventional bracket (CB) and self-ligating (SL) bracket systems on root resorption (RR) during orthodontic treatment. A total of 32 patients were included in this randomized clinical trial. All the patients were randomly divided into four individual groups (SLL: self-ligating laser, CBL: conventional bracket laser, SLNL: self-ligating non-laser, CBNL: conventional bracket non-laser). RR was measured from the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) radiographs which were taken at two stages of the orthodontic treat

Effects of demineralization around orthodontic brackets bonded with different adhesive agents on fatigue-based shear bond strength: an in vitro comparative study.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: There is limited evidence regarding the effect of demineralization around orthodontic brackets on shear bond strength (SBS). The aim of this in vitro fatigue study was to evaluate the effect of demineralization developing around orthodontic brackets bonded with different adhesive agents on fatigue-based SBS under laboratory conditions. METHODS: A total of 60 extracted human maxillary premolars bonded with Gemini metal brackets were randomly allocated into three groups (n = 20).
