Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) was studied in conjunctiva. Two specimens of normal conjunctiva and eleven of diseases ones, consisting of 2 pingueculas, 4 healing traumatic conjunctiva , and 5 proliferative disorders, were studied immunohistochemically using rabbit anti-human EGFR antibody with avitin-biotin and diaminobentizin method. PURPOSE: To investigate anterior segment swept-source optical coherence tomography (AS SS-OCT) findings in ocular surface tumors and simulating conditions.
METHODS: AS SS-OCT imaging and histopathologic data pertaining to 92 eyes of 86 cases collected between September 2018 and April 2023 were evaluated.

INTRODUCTION: An ophthalmology consultation was carried out at the Hôtel-Dieu to facilitate eye care in underprivileged patients referred by the general medicine PASS (socialized health care) of the same hospital.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The files of 150 consecutive patients examined by a single ophthalmologist between January 2012 and June 2013 were reviewed. A standard examination was performed in these patients, sent with a consult sheet, to which a response was sent to PASS. As necessary, prescriptions were also written for the patients.

A study of almost 1000 outpatients at a London eye hospital showed the presence of asymptomatic yellowish, spheroidal deposits in the peripheral cornea or conjunctiva, or both, in about 6 per cent, with a preponderance of males and older subjects among those affected. Monobenzone (the monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone [Benoquin]) is used topically by patients with extensive vitiligo to depigment their remaining normally pigmented skin. The incidence of spheroid degeneration has been studied in a series of 659 Eskimos from Arctic South-West Greenland and one of 810 Caucasians in Copenhagen with its temperate climate. The over-all prevalence was highest among the Eskimos (12.3% against 4.1% among the Copenhageners, P less than 0.001). Rwanda is a small but densely populated country, situated at the watershed between East and West Africa, close to the equator. The mean elevation is around 1500 m. This paper reviews the histological and epidemiological characteristics of pterygium which suggest that chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of this disorder.
