Psychological tests were carried out on 24 children with renal disease during the time they were hemodialyzed and after a minimum of one year after their transplant. These investigations included regular interviews with children and families, drawings and their commentaries, and projective techniques: Rohrschach tests. The results of these investigations indicated that the psychological status of the transplanted child could not be singled out and isolated from the effects of being ill, the different therapeutic procedures, and the personal history. Beyond the appearance adolescents give of a

Mulder and colleagues [Mulder, T., Hochstenbach, J., Dijkstra, P. U., Geertzen, J. H. B. (2008). Born to adapt, but not in your dreams. Consciousness and Cognition, 17, 1266-1271.] report that a majority of amputees continue to experience a normally-limbed body during their night dreams. They interprete this observation as a failure of the body schema to adapt to the new body shape. The present note does not question this interpretation, but points to the already existing literature on the phenomenology of the phantom limb in dreams. A summary of published investigations is complemented by a n

Aims: Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is a family-based psychotherapeutic intervention designed to help children and young people with the psychological difficulties resulting from developmental trauma. The study aims to understand the experience of DDP from a child's perspective. Method: Six children participated, aged between 8 and 12 years old, adopted or living with extended family under special guardianship orders, and accessing ongoing DDP interventions. Narrative story stem methodologies were utilised to elicit projective responses, alongside creative visual methodologies. Data

Similarity-based layouts generated by multidimensional projections or other dimension reduction techniques are commonly used to visualize high-dimensional data. Many projection techniques have been recently proposed addressing different objectives and application domains. Nonetheless, very little is known about the effectiveness of the generated layouts from a user's perspective, how distinct layouts from the same data compare regarding the typical visualization tasks they support, or how domain-specific issues affect the outcome of the techniques. Learning more about projection usage is an im

INTRODUCTION: Current guidelines recommend alcohol abstinence during pregnancy and while trying to conceive to prevent avoidable harms. However, social norms favoring alcohol use can make abstinence difficult, especially while trying to conceal a pregnancy. The aim of this study was to identify feasible alcohol avoidance strategies and categorize them into a typology that can be used to communicate about this topic with women of child-bearing age.
METHODS: Online focus groups (n = 37) and individual interviews (n = 6) were conducted with 43 Australian women aged 18-44 years who were pregnant

Sensory and consumer research performs a pivotal role in gluten-free (GF) food research and development due to consumer dissatisfaction about currently available products, despite the continued growth of this market and promising research developments. Nowadays, almost half of the original articles about GF products include sensory analysis. A current overview is needed to help both food scientists and industry indentify current trends and forward-looking approaches. This current review has gathered information concerning sensory and consumer research for GF bakery and pasta products, from stu

Medical imaging techniques like mammography enable early breast cancer detection and are part of regular screening programs. Typically, a mammogram exam involves two views of each breast, providing complementary information, but physicians rate the breast as a whole. Computer-Aided Diagnostic tools focus on detecting lesions in a single view, which is challenging due to high image resolution and varying scales of abnormalities. The projective nature of the two views and different acquisition protocols add complexity to dual-view analysis. To address these challenges, we propose a Graph Neural

We introduce a technique for obtaining three-dimensional (3D) profiles of objects captured in two-dimensional (2D) flat images (FI). This technique performs a numerical approximation of the object's topography from their image gray tones, analyzing topological concepts such as algebraic bases construction, metric functions in terms of such bases, as well as modeling and development of an isomorphism to project masks (fringe patterns) in the FI, allowing us to use the optimal 3D profilometry techniques. Among these techniques, phase shifting (four steps) is applied in the pattern shifts of the

PURPOSE: To compare the advantages and disadvantages of different techniques for fitting Zernike polynomials to surfaces.
METHODS: Two different methods, Orthogonal Projection and Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization, are compared in terms of speed and performance at fitting a complex object.
RESULTS: Orthogonal Projection provides an extremely rapid fitting of a surface, but leaves residual high frequency noise. The Gram-Schmidt technique provides a more accurate fit of the original object, but consumes much more computing time. Orthogonal Projection, and its associated noise, may be tolerated in

Nipple-areola complex (NAC) reconstruction is the final step in breast reconstruction and significantly influences aesthetic outcome and patient satisfaction. Progressive loss of nipple projection remains a persistent challenge despite numerous local flap techniques. We present a hybrid technique combining C-V and star flaps to enhance central bulk, support projection, and preserve vascularity. A 28-year-old woman underwent bilateral NAC reconstruction three months after implant-based breast reconstruction for hypoplasia. The reconstructed nipples healed without flap necrosis or other complica

Nipple reconstruction is the perfection of breast reconstruction. Although many reconstruction techniques are available, all come with the risk of projection loss. Most of the commonly used local flap techniques give reliable immediate results, but are associated with a loss in projection of 50 to almost 70% over the first three postoperative years. We herein present a modification of the nipple reconstruction technique as presented by Thomas et al. in 1996. By forming a deepithelialized area when closing the skin donor site, a firm foundation plate for the new nipple is created. The authors o

Classic free nipple graft reduction mammaplasty often yields flat, boxy breasts with poor projection. The authors modified this technique using superior and inferior pyramidal dermoglandular flaps to increase the fullness and projection of the breast. Six patients (12 breasts) with gigantomastia underwent breast reduction by this method. The results were aesthetically pleasing, with conically shaped breasts and good projection. The technique is easy to perform and it is possible to switch from pedicled nipple-areolar transposition to this method intraoperatively in patients in whom perfusion o

OBJECTIVE: To compare the auricular projection results across 3 different techniques of sulcus construction in microtia repair (using a temporoparietal fascial flap, a retroauricular fascial flap from the mastoid region, or a superficial muscular aponeurotic system advancement flap).
METHODS: All the patients had been photographed at least 3 months after the second stage (construction of the retroauricular sulcus) in auricular reconstruction for microtia. The auricular projection of each patient was measured, and the results of 3 different techniques were compared.
RESULTS: No statistically

Thirty-one patients, who underwent open technique rhinoplasty were prospectively included in the study. The lateral aspect photographs were taken before the operations. Following midcolumellar incision septal elevation was done until septal cartilage was shown. After replacing the skin totally back and suturing midcolumellar incision, the intraoperative photographs were taken. The projection indexes were measured by Goode method from the photographs and the measurements were compared. A statist

BACKGROUND: In the treatment of microtia, the search has been for surgical techniques that prevent postoperative complications and realize sufficient and stable projection of the constructed ear.
METHODS: Cartilage was fixed with absorbable synthetic thread instead of wire because wire has a high risk of exposure. A subcutaneous pedicle was added to the concha to prevent skin necrosis. Dead space and hematoma creation were prevented with vacuum aspiration, bolster fixation, and microdrainage with small tubes. A triangular skin flap connecting to the ear lobe was used to prevent shrinkage on t

OBJECTIVES: The bilateral cleft nasal deformity is characterized by a short columella and a broad, flattened nasal tip. Secondary correction is challenging and often complicated by skin envelope scarring and hypoplastic alar cartilages. Adequate and durable tip projection requires a procedure that adequately augments the nasal tip and maximizes tip support. We describe a novel technique for secondary correction of this deformity in the immature pediatric population.
METHODS: The conchal butterfly graft technique utilizes a folded cartilage construct to simultaneously increase tip projection a

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Facial appearance is one of the most relevant measures of success in cleft lip and palate treatment. The aim was to assess nasolabial appearance at 5 years of age in all children in the project. In this part of the project the local protocol for lip closure continued to be used because the primary lip and nose operations were not part of the randomisation. The great majority of the surgeons used Millard's technique together with McComb's technique for the nose. One center used Tennison-Randalls technique and in one center the centers own technique as well as nose plugs were

Background Forensic odontology has emerged as a crucial method for identifying skeletal or dental remains. Due to the restricted accuracy of current techniques for estimating age at death, researchers have endeavored to illustrate age-related alterations in dental hard tissues. Bone remodeling constitutes an ongoing and intricate process throughout our lifespan. It is believed that morphological changes in the mandible during an individual's lifetime are influenced by both dental condition and the individual's age. Objectives This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of mandibular parameters su

Medication nonadherence is prevalent among patients with chronic diseases. Previous research focused on patients' beliefs in medication or illness and applied risk-benefit analyses when reasoning their behavior. This qualitative study examined rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients' perceptions and feelings toward medication in parallel with attitudes about their own adherence. We conducted four 90-min focus groups and seven 60-min interviews with a diverse sample of RA patients (n = 27). Discussions covered dilemmas encountered, emotions, and thought process concerning medication, and included ap
