Dissemination of go sun smart in outdoor recreation: effect of program exposure on sun protection of guests at high-altitude ski areas.

Go Sun Smart is a theory-based health communication program designed to influence sun-protection behaviors of employees and guests at high-altitude ski areas to reduce skin cancer risk. The effects of Go Sun Smart, in a Phase IV dissemination randomized posttest-only trial, on sun-protection behaviors of ski area guests are reported. Program use was assessed by on-site observation and guest message exposure, and sun protection was measured in intercept surveys at ski areas. Dissemination strategy-enhanced versus basic-was not significantly related to sun safety practices. Additional analyses e

Smart stimuli-responsive hydrogels for safe oral administration of Insulin: A Review.

Diabetes is a common disease worldwide, and its treatment has been continuously explored. In order to solve a series of problems associated with insulin injection, many researchers have been exploring carriers for oral insulin administration. To realize the absorption of insulin, it is necessary that the drug delivery carrier can overcome the complex internal environment. Smart hydrogels are applied in various fields of biomedicine because it can respond to external stimuli. There are feasible examples in the experiment of oral insulin administration by researchers using smart hydrogels. In th

Sensor development based on stimuli-responsive materials for biomedical applications.

Soft materials have enabled us to reach, combine, and improve properties such as stability, flexibility, and compatibility. Factors essential for flexible electronics, wearable systems, and implantable devices. In recent years, the demand for technology and new devices has urged the fabrication of diverse materials. Among them, stimuli-responsive materials ("smart") can modify their structure in response to external stimuli. Furthermore, part of their capabilities is to conserve/combine their properties, resulting in materials with great potential for various applications. The fusion of both m

Comprehensive Review on Thermoplastic Polyurethane: Applications in Wound Healing and Smart Healthcare.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is an important polymer widely used in biomedical applications owing to its flexibility, strength, low toxicity, and biocompatibility. The TPU structure is classified into two types-soft and hard segments-which can be easily modified to achieve the desired mechanical and biological properties, making TPU an ideal material for wound healing and smart healthcare systems. Unlike conventional thermoset polyurethanes, TPU has a segmented architecture with soft and hard domains that undergo microphase separation. This unique structure provides an excellent balance of

Covalent Organic Frameworks in Smart Food Packaging: Advances, Challenges, and Future Prospects.

Food preservation challenges have positioned packaging as a rapidly evolving, innovation-driven field, with smart packaging offering transformative solutions. Among advanced materials, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted growing attention due to their permanent porosity, structural tunability, high surface area, and chemical stability. These features allow COFs to address critical needs in food packaging, including active barrier protection, antimicrobial action, and smart sensing of food freshness and spoilage. This review examines recent progress in applying COFs to food packag

Smart Compression Therapy Devices for Treatment of Venous Leg Ulcers: A Review.

Venous leg ulcers can have significant social and economic impacts, and are generally treated by applying compression to the lower limb, which aids in promoting blood return to the heart. Compression therapies commonly involve the use of passive bandages that suffer from issues associated with incorrect application, and although automated solutions have begun to appear; these are often bulky and hinder mobility. Emerging microtechnologies and new materials enable the development of "smart" compression therapy devices, which are defined as systems that use miniaturized and lightweight actuators

Innovative therapies for diabetic foot ulcers: Application and prospects of smart dressings.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), as one of the most severe complications of diabetes mellitus, have emerged as a critical global public health challenge due to their high incidence, refractory nature, and serious adverse outcomes. Clinical evidence demonstrates that while conventional therapies-including wound debridement, pharmacological treatment, and surgical intervention-can partially improve wound healing, they remain limited by suboptimal efficacy and high complication rates. In recent years, breakthroughs in smart dressing technology, enabled by advanced materials and biosensing innovations

The relationship between subjective health status and user satisfaction among low-income disabled adults: the mediating role of perceived values of smart home technology.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the factors affecting the user satisfaction of smart home services post operation, for individuals who have a disability and an annual income below established low-income thresholds. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-eight participants with disabilities were subjected to smart home service testing. After about three months of use, a survey was conducted on the participants. RESULTS: The results showed that the participants' subjective health status did not significantly affect their satisfaction with using smart home services. In addition, through mediating

Stereotactic MR-guided on-table adaptive radiation therapy (SMART) for borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic cancer: A multi-center, open-label phase 2 study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Radiation dose escalation may improve local control (LC) and overall survival (OS) in select pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients. We prospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of ablative stereotactic magnetic resonance (MR)-guided adaptive radiation therapy (SMART) for borderline resectable (BRPC) and locally advanced pancreas cancer (LAPC). The primary endpoint of acute grade ≥ 3 gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity definitely related to SMART was previously published with median follow-up (FU) 8.8 months from SMART. We now present more mature outcomes inc

Smart Actuators and Adhesives for Reconfigurable Matter.

Biological systems found in nature provide excellent stimuli-responsive functions. The camouflage adaptation of cephalopods (octopus, cuttlefish), rapid stiffness change of sea cucumbers, opening of pine cones in response to humidity, and rapid closure of Venus flytraps upon insect touch are some examples of nature's smart systems. Although current technologies are still premature to mimic these sophisticated structures and functions in smart biological systems, recent work on stimuli-responsive programmable matter has shown great progress. Stabilizing-sensing synergistic geogrid for high-speed railways.

High-speed railway systems demand robust substructure performance and real-time monitoring to ensure operational safety and efficiency. To meet these challenges, we introduce the stabilizing-sensing synergistic geogrid (SMART geogrid), which employs geogrids as soil-stabilizing materials and integrates Fiber Bragg Grating sensors within the geogrid to detect soil variations. Extensive theoretical, numerical, and experimental studies have been conducted on the coupling characteristics between the optical fiber, adhesive, and geogrid in the SMART geogrid. These studies indicate that the SMART ge

Smart Floor with Integrated Triboelectric Nanogenerator As Energy Harvester and Motion Sensor.

A smart floor is demonstrated by integrating a square-frame triboelectric nanogenerator (SF-TENG) into a standard wood floor. The smart floor has two working modes based on two pairs of triboelectric materials: one is purposely chosen polytetrafluoroethylene films and aluminum (Al) balls, and the other is the floor itself and the objects that can be triboelectrically charged, such as basketball, shoe soles, and Scotch tape, etc. Utilizing the Al balls enclosed inside shallow boxes, the smart floor is capable of harvesting vibrational energy and, hence, provides a nonintrusive way to detect sud
