OBJECTIVES: Pregnancy loss and trauma are unexpected yet frequent occurrences for females in the United States, however little research exists on the role of pregnancy loss and trauma with both partners in couple relationships. The purpose of this study was to use dyadic analyses to better understand the role of trauma, spirituality, and pregnancy loss in the context of the couple relationship.
METHOD: Drawn from a secondary data set, the dyadic sample included survey responses from (n = 97) matched, pregnant heterosexual couples. Couples responded to questions related to traumatic experience

Older people living alone has been reported to be socially isolated and suffering from loneliness. Although spiritual care is a core element of end-of-life care for older people, a clear-cut definition of spirituality has not been established yet. It remains unclear how spirituality is perceived by heath care professionals and how spiritual care is delivered in the end of life. Also, most of the previous studies on perspective of older people living alone targeted women, while very few researches shed light on the experience of older men. The aim of the present study was to investigate the spi

In addition to her neonatal intensive care unit stay, she has been hospitalized for pneumonia. Her mother says she is "sickly" and has a weak immune system due to her asthma symptoms. Lucy also experiences somatic complaints related to gastroesophageal reflux and constipation.Lucy is described as being "in anoth

Religiosity/spirituality (R/S) is often involved in coping with cancer. Qualitative research effectively captures the individuality of R/S constructs. Fourteen military veteran cancer survivors participated in focus groups. R/S questions included "How have your religious/spiritual beliefs affected how you cope with your cancer" and "How have your religious/spiritual beliefs changed as a result of your experience with cancer?" Five primary themes emerged: impact of cancer on R/S, meaning-making, prayer, religious/spiritual role of others, and facing death. Consistency and individuality characte

CONTEXT: Supporting patients' spiritual needs is central to palliative care. Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) may be developing their spiritual identities; it is unclear how to navigate conversations concerning their spiritual needs.
OBJECTIVES: To 1) describe spiritual narratives among AYAs based on their self-identification as religious, spiritual, both, or neither and 2) identify language to support AYAs' spiritual needs in keeping with their self-identities.
METHODS: In this mixed-methods, prospective, longitudinal cohort study, AYAs (14-25 years old) with newly diagnosed cancer self-

Nursing students require communication and spiritual assessment skills in the curriculum to provide whole-person palliative care to patients. This study used the communication style of motivational interviewing with the Faith, Importance, Community, Address care spiritual history tool to improve student confidence (N = 30) in connecting with others. Three qualitative themes demonstrated the potential for student growth: (1) active listening and nonjudgment allows people to open up, (2) the unknown territory of spirituality using Faith, Importance, Community, Address care as a guide, and (3) bu

BACKGROUND: Spirituality in the field of neonatology begins with the care of pregnant women at risk of premature birth. This existential threat at the very beginning of life inevitably leads to a need for spiritual support. One major focus of care in prematurity is on building a bond between parents and child, which is fundamental for the child's further development.
OBJECTIVES: To identify the spiritual needs of parents in perinatal care and to demonstrate a possible way to meeting these needs.
METHODS: This work is based on case reports, identification of topics, and a systematic literatur

This essay offers a psycho-spiritual and psychoanalytic meditation on the horse-human relationship as a nonverbal site of attunement, regulation, and meaning-making. Drawing on autobiographical clinical narrative, it explores how horseback riding became a medium for experiencing and reflecting upon embodied connection, mutual responsiveness, and contemplative presence. Encounters with horses illuminate forms of reciprocity that preceded and exceed speech, while also opening reflection on maternal attachment, separation, loss, and the emergence of selfhood. In dialogue with Freud, Winnicott, Pi

OBJECTIVES: Personal, self-selected goals are important determinants of behavior in work settings. The present study aimed to elicit palliative care nurses' personal self-set goals of spiritual care and to test whether these goals were related to their spiritual care understanding.
METHODS: Data were collected from a convenience sample of palliative care nurses who completed an anonymous, online survey asking qualitative data about how they understand spiritual care and their goals for spiritual care. We conducted content analysis on the goal data to create categories of goals and created sub

BACKGROUND: Spirituality is recognized as a dimension of health and is increasingly incorporated into supportive cancer care settings. Patients with oral cancer frequently experience profound functional, psychosocial, and existential challenges associated with their diagnosis and treatment, often leading to unmet spiritual needs. Taking a spiritual history provides an approach to identify beliefs, values, and coping resources that influence quality of life and clinical decision-making.
OBJECTIVE: To synthesize evidence-based strategies for assessing patients' spirituality within oral oncology

PURPOSE: The concept of spiritual suffering in palliative care lacks clarity, which hinders appropriate therapeutic response. This study aims to clarify and define the concept of spiritual suffering within the context of palliative care. The research questions guiding this study are: What are the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of spiritual suffering in palliative care? How is it defined within that setting?
METHODS: A concept analysis was conducted using Walker and Avant's eight-step approach: (1) selecting the concept; (2) determining the aim; (3) identifying all uses of the conce

INTRODUCTION: Dementia and heart failure (HF) are the most common co-existing end-of-life conditions among rural older adults requiring extensive caregiving. Studies conducted in Appalachia have found that caregivers report a lack of information about palliative care and managing complex care at home. They also indicate the need for spiritual support.
PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the factors contributing to the spiritual well-being of caregivers in the rural Appalachian region.
METHODS: This descriptive correlational design allowed the collection of surveys from caregivers (N= 20) of
