Bilateral posterior central corneal steepening with decreased visual acuity.

A 40-year-old woman was referred for the assessment of bilateral corneal opacities with gradual visual decline over the course of the past decade. Her past ocular history is significant for bilateral amblyopia and strabismus surgery in both eyes before age 5. The patient's parents were told by her childhood ophthalmologist that she had a hereditary disorder. Her systemic review was significant for anal fissure and human leukocyte antigen-B27 ankylosing spondylitis. Her past ocular record revealed corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) of 20/80 in both eyes in 2018 with central corneal haze. O

[Scleral buckling for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment].

Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is the separation of the sensory retina from the pigment epithelium (RPE). RRD is caused by a retinal tear in the periphery and the vitreoretinal (VR) traction, which allows access of the vitreous fluid to the subretinal space. Treatment of symptomatic retinal detachment is currently surgical only. Surgical options are intraocular and extraocular. This is the retrospective evaluation of the group of 17 eyes of 17 patients with RRD, which were operated by scleral buckling. Patients were 9 men and 8 women, age range 19-61 (median 46) years. The observation

Intraocular lens power calculation for silicone oil-dependent eyes.

BACKGROUND: Silicone oil tamponade is widely used in vitreoretinal surgery. In some cases, silicone oil may not be extracted for a long time or even permanently and is referred to as silicone oil-dependent eyes. In this study, we aimed to deduce a theoretical formula for calculating intraocular lens power for silicone oil-dependent eyes and compare it with clinical findings. METHODS: A theoretical formula was deduced using strict geometric optical principles and the Gullstrand simplified eye model. The preoperative and postoperative refractive statuses of patients with silicone oil-dependent

Suprachoroideal haemorrhage in postoperative period of antiglaucoma surgery, case report.

Suprachoroidal haemorrhage (SCH) is a serious complication of intraocular procedures. Physiologically there is only a minimal amount of fluid in the suprachoroid space, pathologically the fluid volume increases, which causes ablation of the choroid. SCH could be divided into different cathegories, according to the character of the fluid into serous and haemorrhagic; by the time of occurrence in relation to the surgery into peroperative and postoperative. Diagnosis is based on biomicroscopic and ultrasound examinations. The ocular risk factors for SCH are glaucoma, myopia and aphakia; systemic

Association between aqueous humor and vitreous fluid levels of Th17 cell-related cytokines in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Inflammation is known to be involved in the progression of diabetic retinopathy. We have recently reported that vitreous levels of IL-4, IL-17A, IL-22, IL-31, and TNFα are higher than the respective serum levels in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) patients, and that vitreous levels of these cytokines are higher in PDR than in other non-inflammatory vitreoretinal diseases or uveitis associated with sarcoidosis. In the present study, we investigated inflammatory cytokines including Th17 cell-related cytokines in aqueous humor samples obtained from eyes with PDR, and analyzed the associat
