Four experimental variants used the following: 1) granules only from a filler (control); 2) those from a filler and an attractant; 3) and 4) those from a filler, an attractant, and a toxicant (permethrin or lambda cigalothrin, respectively). Each experiment used 20 nymphs of the first laboratory generation. 90 and 25% were in contact with attractive and control granules, respectively. Out of the nymphs in experiments 3 and 4 granules, 94 and 100% died. The contacts of 4 sec or more duration led to death. The experimental findings suggest that the designing and application of attractive acarici

BACKGROUND: Insecticide resistance management (IRM) strategies, such as rotation and mixture, rely on fitness tradeoffs and susceptible population dilution to slow resistance. While IRM is widely recommended, its robustness when a target pest's biology violates these foundational assumptions remains poorly tested. The honey bee parasite, Varroa destructor, provides a test case to evaluate these limits. For instance, V. destructor's obligate sibling mating prevents genetic dilution, resistance mutations appear to carry low fitness costs, and acaricide-absorbing beeswax exerts continuous sub-let

Ticks are among the most significant ectoparasites of livestock and humans, posing serious health and economic risks. The growing resistance to conventional acaricides highlights the need for safer and more effective alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the acaricidal efficacy of different ivermectin (IVM) nanoformulations against different developmental stages of Rhipicephalus sanguineus tick. Different ivermectin nanoformulations were fabricated and evaluated for their physicochemical properties. An in vitro study was performed using larval, nymphal, and adult immersion tests, followed

The objective of this study was to evaluate essential oils (EOs) as an alternative control method for Rhipicephalus microplus and Amblyomma mixtum larvae. The EOs used were obtained by steam distillation from the leaves of cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), mexican mint (Plectranthus amboinicus), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), peppercorns (Pimenta dioica), and peruvian pepper tree (Schinus molle). To evaluate the acaricidal effect of EOs against the larvae of two tick species, a larval immersion test (LIT) was performed using six concentrations (10 mg/mL, 5 mg/mL, 2.5 mg/mL, 1.87 mg/mL, 1.25 mg/m

IMPORTANCE: Terpenoids of a plant origin are a class of alternatives to chemical acaricides for tick control. Despite this, few studies have evaluated the efficacy of terpenoid-containing herbal extracts or individual terpenoids in Hyalomma anatolicum.
OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the killing efficacy of terpinolene and γ-terpinene against H. anatolicum to identify herbs rich in these compounds as potential candidates for future materials in the control of H. anatolicum.
METHODS: Terpinolene and γ-terpinene were subjected to adult tick immersion experiments to evaluate their killing effec

Dermatophagoides farinae is a species closely linked to human health. This study investigated the acaricidal efficacy of methanol extracts from 18 traditional Chinese medicinal plants against D. farinae. The extract from Ligusticum striatum DC. exhibited the highest acaricidal properties. Sequential extraction was applied to reveal the active component in the ethyl acetate extract, identified as senkyunolide A (SEA) by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses. Transcriptomic analysis was performed following SEA exposure for 6, 12, and 24 h,

In this study we analysed the effect of the temperature, diverse strains of Bacillus thuringiensis, Lysinibacillus sphaericus and nanoformulations with essential plant oils (EONP) on the survival of Sarcoptes scabiei mites derived from naturally-infested Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica). In general, mites maintained at 12ºC survived more than those maintained at 35ºC (40.7 hr and 31.2 hr, respectively). Mites with no treatment survived 27.6 h on average. Mites treated with B. thuringiensis serovar. konkukian and geranium EONP showed significant reduction in their survival. Despite the fact that

The poultry red mite (PRM), Dermanyssus gallinae, significantly impacts the health of egg-laying hens. Mites feed on the blood of infested chickens and have a great economic impact on the poultry industry. Chemical treatment of mites raises concerns about their resistance to miticides and residues in eggs and poultry. Biocontrol using entomopathogenic fungi is expected to be a chemical-free strategy for reducing PRM infestations. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of various entomopathogenic fungal species collected in South Korea on the inhibition of PRM. Seventeen

Ticks and associated pathogens pose serious threats to the health of livestock. To assess the efficacy of acaricide dip treatment (cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos, piperonyl butoxide, citronella), we assessed post-treatment tick acquisition and tick mortality of free-ranging Boran cattle inhabiting a wildlife-cattle ranch in Northern Tanzania. Because host intrinsic variables and exposure to ticks may substantially affect tick acquisition, we incorporated host sex, body mass, health condition, and distance traveled in models of tick acquisition. Using generalized linear mixed models that accounted

A double blind, randomized, comparative study versus placebo, was done during 6 months in 32 children, aged 4-12 years, who suffer from either allergic asthma or rhinitis or both, slept in a bedroom rich in dust mite, have well documented allergy solely to house dust mite (H.D.M.), and a condition severe enough to require continuous medication. After thorough cleaning, their bedrooms were sprayed on day 0 and day 90 with the total content of a canister containing either Acardust or Placebo. Rooms were cleaned regularly throughout the study period. Each child completed an individual daily score

Varroa destructor is one of the most destructive ectoparasites affecting honey bee colonies worldwide, highlighting the need for alternative and naturally derived control strategies. In this study, propolis samples collected from three different regions of Türkiye (Giresun, Isparta, and Ardahan) were evaluated primarily for their acaricidal activity against V. destructor, together with chemical characterization and complementary antioxidant and antibacterial analyses. Propolis extracts demonstrated pronounced acaricidal activity, with mite mortality ranging from 71 to 100% during the 7-h expos

Acaricide resistance in Rhipicephalus microplus represents a major constraint to sustainable cattle production in tropical and subtropical regions, yet official veterinary services often lack structured tools to integrate laboratory diagnostics with spatial information for decision-making. This study describes the development of a georeferenced monitoring dashboard for acaricide resistance using Rio Grande do Sul as a pilot model. Laboratory diagnostic data generated by the official State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory between 2023 and 2025 were compiled into a structured database linked to

Rhipicephalus microplus ticks harm cattle health and productivity. Frequent use of ixodicides can result in resistant tick populations and environmental contamination, as residues enter soil. Nematophagous (NF) and entomopathogenic fungi (EF) are natural enemies of nematodes and insect pests. This study tested the in vitro lethal effects of liquid culture filtrates (LCFs) from selected NF on R. microplus. Fungi were grown in Czapek-Dox broth for 30 days at room temperature to obtain LCFs, which were tested using the immersion method. Experimental groups included: (1) Arthrobotrys musiformis, (

BACKGROUND: The lack of effective and affordable new environmental tick control products is one of the major challenges to the existing control strategies against the blacklegged tick (Ixodes scapularis), the vector of Lyme disease affecting public health in the United States. Ivermectin is a systemic antiparasitic pesticide that has been used successfully to control biting flies and ticks infesting livestock. Ivermectin-treated corn has also been shown to be effective against adult ticks feeding on deer. The goal of this study was to assess acaricidal properties of orally delivered ivermectin

The management of cattle ticks, particularly Rhipicephalus microplus, poses a global challenge in subtropical regions like Ecuador due to its impact on meat and milk productivity, leading to economic losses. Misuse of acaricides has resulted in resistance and multi-resistance, diminishing their effectiveness. This study evaluated resistance to amitraz, alpha-cypermethrin, and ivermectin using the Larval Packet test, laboratory-reared tick larvae collected from cattle were tested. Data on farm management and tick control practices were gathered via a questionnaire in Northwest Pichincha and Qui

Immunisation of livestock with high-quality vaccines and the use of acaricides are highly ranked tick control strategies worldwide. However, the effects of coupling livestock immunisation and acaricide control on mitigating the spread of East Coast Fever (ECF) is not well understood. Effective strategies to curb the disease require an understanding of the influence of control strategies on ECF dynamics. This paper presents a new mathematical model for ECF in ticks and livestock to analyze the effect of livestock immunisation and acaricide control on preventing ECF spread. Our research is focus

BACKGROUND: The mite Psoroptes cuniculi is a common worldwide ectoparasite and the most frequently found in rabbit farms. It causes significant economic losses on commercial rabbit breeding associated with poor leather quality, reduced conception rates, weight loss, poor growth and death. Several strategies have been proposed for the treatment of mange caused by this mite, ranging from the use of acaricides, entomopathogenic fungi, essential oils and vaccines. However, therapy and control of both human scabies and animal mange are still based mainly on the use of drugs and chemicals such as iv

Abamectin is one of the most important insecticides worldwide. It is used against major agricultural pests and insects of public health importance, as well as against endoparasites in animal health. Abamectin has been used successfully for the control of the spider mite Tetranychus urticae, a major agricultural pest with global distribution, an extremely diverse host range, and a remarkable ability to develop resistance against insecticides including abamectin. Target site resistance mutations may explain a large part of resistance, although genetic evidence and transcriptomic data indicated t
