Changes in the chemical compositions and biological properties of kombucha beverages made from black teas and pineapple peels and cores.

Several raw materials have been used as partial supplements or entire replacements for the main ingredients of kombucha to improve the biological properties of the resulting kombucha beverage. This study used pineapple peels and cores (PPC), byproducts of pineapple processing, as alternative raw materials instead of sugar for kombucha production. Kombuchas were produced from fusions of black tea and PPC at different ratios, and their chemical profiles and biological properties, including antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, were determined and compared with the control kombucha without PP

Fecal shedding level of Haemonchus contortus is associated with gastrointestinal bacterial microbial composition in naturally infected sheep.

A complex interaction of gastrointestinal parasites with sheep hosts may involve bacteria communities, parasite genera, parasitic genes, and biological pathways. Haemonchus contortus presents a global challenge for ruminants, and the bacterial community can influence sheep's resistance and susceptibility to these parasites. Thus, a better understanding of this complex interaction could contribute to the development of a new approach to parasite control. This study evaluated the bacterial community of Corriedale sheep naturally infected with H. contortus based on the fecal egg counts over ten m

Influence of ionic liquids on enzymatic asymmetric carboligations.

The asymmetric mixed carboligation of aldehydes catalyzed by thiamine diphosphate (ThDP)-dependent enzymes provides a sensitive system for monitoring changes in activity, chemo-, and enantioselectivity. While previous studies have shown that organic cosolvents influence these parameters, we now demonstrate that similar effects occur upon addition of water-miscible ionic liquids (ILs). In this study, six ThDP-dependent enzymes were analyzed in the presence of 14 ILs under comparable conditions to assess their influence on enzymatic carboligation reactions yielding 2-hydroxy ketones. ILs exerted
