Call to action on use and reimbursement for home blood pressure monitoring: executive summary a joint scientific statement from the american heart association, american society of hypertension, and preventive cardiovascular nurses association.

Home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) overcomes many of the limitations of traditional office blood pressure (BP) measurement and is both cheaper and easier to perform than ambulatory BP monitoring. Monitors that use the oscillometric method are currently available that are accurate, reliable, easy to use, and relatively inexpensive. An increasing number of patients are using them regularly to check their BP at home, but although this has been endorsed by national and international guidelines, detailed recommendations for their use have been lacking. There is a rapidly growing literature showi

Implementation of prevention guidelines in primary healthcare: a scientific statement of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology of the ESC, the ESC Council for Cardiology Practice, the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions of the ESC, WONCA Europe, and EURIPA.

This scientific statement explores the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention guidelines in primary healthcare across Europe. It identifies key barriers to adherence, including limited resources, diagnostic complexity, and inconsistencies in care delivery. Emphasis is placed on the use of practical tools such as risk assessment instruments, shared decision-making, and integrated information technology systems to support effective implementation. Particular focus is given to vulnerable populations, including individuals with multi-morbi

Cardiovascular risk reduction in high-risk pediatric patients: a scientific statement from the American Heart Association Expert Panel on Population and Prevention Science; the Councils on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young, Epidemiology and Prevention, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism, High Blood Pressure Research, Cardiovascular Nursing, and the Kidney in Heart Disease; and the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research: endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Although for most children the process of atherosclerosis is subclinical, dramatically accelerated atherosclerosis occurs in some pediatric disease states, with clinical coronary events occurring in childhood and very early adult life. As with most scientific statements about children and the future risk for cardiovascular disease, there are no randomized trials documenting the effects of risk reduction on hard clinical outcomes. A growing body of literature, however, identifies the importance of premature cardiovascular disease in the course of certain pediatric diagnoses and addresses the re

Diagnosis and management of very rare primary arrhythmia syndromes in children and adults: a Clinical Consensus Statement of the European Heart Rhythm Association of the ESC and the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions of the ESC, endorsed by the Association for European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology.

Very rare and ultra-rare primary inherited arrhythmia syndromes (IAS) represent a heterogeneous group of disorders associated with a significant risk of sudden cardiac death, often manifesting from foetal life to early adulthood. Current guidelines primarily address more common IAS and provide limited, non-specific recommendations for these rare entities, particularly in paediatric populations. This European Heart Rhythm Association Clinical Consensus Statement, developed in collaboration with the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions and endorsed by the Association for

Cardiovascular diseases, prevention, and management of complications in older adults and frail patients treated for elective or post-traumatic hip orthopaedic interventions: a clinical consensus statement of the ESC Council for Cardiology Practice (CCP), the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC), the Association for Acute CardioVascular Care (ACVC), the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions of the ESC (ACNAP), the ESC Working Group on Aorta and Peripheral Vascular Diseases (WG APVD), and the ESC Working Group on Thrombosis (WG T).

Due to the aging population, focusing on healthy aging has become a global priority. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and frailty, characterized by increased vulnerability to adverse stress and health events, interact synergistically in advanced age. In older adults, hip fractures are a frequent dramatic "life-transition" event. Conditions such as arrhythmias, orthostatic hypotension, heart failure, peripheral artery disease and adverse drug reactions may facilitate falls and thus bone fractures in older adults. Cardiovascular complications or the worsening of previous CVDs may increase the degr

Clarifying Exercise Intolerance in Cardiovascular Disease: Protocol for a Scoping Review and Evolutionary Concept Analysis.

Background/Objectives: Exercise intolerance is clinically important but conceptually unstable in cardiovascular care. Its relationship with exercise tolerance, exercise capacity, functional capacity and the nursing concept of activity intolerance remains unclear, and the term entered nursing from other disciplines without corresponding conceptual scrutiny. This protocol will examine how these concepts are used in adults with cardiovascular disease, how use varies across conditions, care settings, pathway phases and time, and which attributes, antecedents, consequences and related concepts are

Risk stratification for adult patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with congenital heart disease. A scientific statement of the ESC Working Group on Pulmonary Circulation & Right Ventricular Function, the ESC Working Group on Adult Congenital Heart Disease, and the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions of the ESC.

For patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), current guidelines recommend a 3- and 4-strata risk stratification model at baseline and follow-up, respectively. Risk stratification models in PAH are mainly derived from idiopathic PAH cohorts and are not automatically applicable to all patients with PAH associated with congenital heart disease (CHD), especially in those with Eisenmenger syndrome, given the differences in pathophysiology and clinical phenotype. Additional features such as shunt location, complexity of CHD, degree of cyanosis, iron deficiency, syndromic co-morbidity and

Rationale and design of the MASTERPLAN study: Multifactorial approach and superior treatment efficacy in renal patients with the aid of nurse practitioners.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an established risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). In addition, patients with renal disease are exposed to a myriad of risk factors that increase their risk even further. The treatment of risk factors in these patients is paramount to reducing cardiovascular risk and for attenuating renal failure progression. It is well known that lifestyle interventions are difficult, and that medical treatment targets are seldom met. A multifactorial approach with the aid of nurse practitioners has shown to be beneficial for achieving treatment goals and

Calcium channel blocking agents: physiologic basis of nursing intervention.

Calcium channel blocking agents, which are important in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, have been in use for nearly 20 years, yet their uses, side effects, and implications to the nursing profession have been elucidated only recently. The primary effects of these agents are on vascular smooth muscle and the AV node. Nifedipine and diltiazem are effective in the relief of angina, and verapamil is used in the treatment of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias. This article reviewed cardiovascular physiology as it relates to nursing care of patients who receive calcium channel blocking drugs

[The role of advanced practice nurses in vascular medicine].

Vascular medicine is facing a steady rise in cardiovascular diseases and an increasing complexity in care pathways. The integration of advanced practice nurses (APNs) provides an organizational and clinical response to these challenges by offering enhanced nursing expertise focused on long-term follow-up, treatment adjustment, prevention, and screening. Recent changes to the regulatory framework now allow patients direct access to APNs within coordinated care teams, paving the way for expanded management of chronic vascular conditions, venous diseases, and cardiovascular risk factors.

Recognition and management of shock in the pediatric patient.

Shock continues to be a challenge for health care professionals because shock is not a single pathologic process but a complex series of interrelated events. After respiratory failure, shock is the second most common cause of death in children. The etiology of shock can be classified into three major categories: hypovolemic, cardiogenic, and distributive shock (septic shock). Despite the etiology of the shock state, if left untreated, the overwhelming response of the body to the inadequate perfusion is death. The key to successful management and treatment of shock is early recognition and rapi
