OBJECTIVE: To develop a kind of new Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccine prepared on Vero cells.
METHODS: A JE attenuated virus strain SA14-14-2 was adapted on Vero cells for preparation of purified inactivated vaccine. Comparison of the growth curves of SA14-14-2 in roller bottle and in spinner flask was made. After the virus inoculation and absorption on Vero cells for 2 hours, cultures were replaced with serum-free MEM, the culture supernatants were harvested on day 2,4,6 after inoculation. Schistosoma mansoni infection in Cercopithecus species monkeys has been previously monitored for up to five years. This is an account of observations made during an autopsy on a male vervet monkey which had harboured the parasite for 15 years. The Orthoflavivirus ilheusense (ILHV) is an arbovirus that was first isolated in Brazil in 1944 during an epidemiologic investigation of yellow fever. Is a member of the Flaviviridae family and it belongs to the antigenic complex of the Ntaya virus group. Psorophora ferox is the primary vector of ILHV and this study presents the isolation and phylogenetic analysis of ILHV in a pool of Ps. ferox collected in the state of Goiás in 2021. Viral isolation tests were performed on Vero cells and C6/36 clones. The indirect immunofluorescence test (IFI) was used to confirm the positivity of the sample.

An aged male vervet monkey showed severe cardiac arrhythmia for more than 3 years. A multifocal amyloid consisting of transthyretin was deposited in all areas of the heart wall, especially in the extracellular stroma among muscle fibers and external tunica of arterioles. Following short-term signs of weakness, depression, and/or anorexia of less than 24 h, two adult male African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops sabeus) of St. Kitts origin died from complications of cecal volvulus. Gaseous distention was radiologically apparent in one animal. Necropsy of both monkeys revealed cecal volvulus, one at the ileocecal junction and one involving a segment of the distal portion of the ileum and cecum. Congestion and hemorrhage were evident microscopically in the lamina propria of the affected intestine, with variable necrosis.

The Vero cell line, a non-phagocytic cell, has supported the intracellular mechanism of Leishmania (L.) chagasi. This strain (MHOM/BR/501/MS00) was isolated from a human case of visceral leishmaniasis in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil and cultivated in Schneider's Drosophila medium with 20% of heat inactivated fetal calf serum. It was allowed to infect the Vero cells at a ratio of 10 to 20 promastigotes per cell. OBJECTIVE: To study the production process of purified Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine from Vero cells cultivated in roller bottles to improve the quality of JE vaccine.
METHODS: The 15 L roller bottles were used for propagation of Vero cells and JE virus, then the virus was inactivated, concentrated, treated by protamine sulphate, purified by sucrose gradient density centrifugation and lyophylized as final product.
RESULTS: Three batches of high quality lyophylized vaccine were produced and the quality control tests of vaccine for human use had been passed.

Blood-cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) barrier damage in 11 vervet monkeys was estimated before infection and during the early and late phases of Trypanosoma rhodesiense disease, using the method given by Tibbling, Link and Ohman (1977).
